  1. Having fun with the 737 that I just purchased! I downloaded my first flight plan from SimBrief and figured out how to get the FMC to load it. I am new to this FMC stuff and flight plans but I got enough of it to work that the plane actually flew the route (KORD => KJFK). I guessed at an approach, ILS 4R. When I got near JFK the plane did everything once I reset the MCP Altitude. The plane came in for a perfectly aligned landing on 04R. The only problem is I guess I did something wrong and the plane was going to fly over the runway at like 50'. I am sure it was pilot error. (I have only gone through Tutorial 1 once). But my question is the plane came in great on 4R even though I never touched or programed the ILS freq for 4R. So when using an approach in the FMC does one have to enter the ILS of the runway? DId I get lucky or was it somehow set by something else or maybe did I select a visual on 4R?. I don't know. Thanks for any help. JC

  3. Yes, thanks. I downloaded my first fp from Sim Brief and put it in that folder and the 737 FMC saw it and it actually worked! Wow, I am happy. JC
  4. P.S. I found a site, http://www.simbrief.com/home/index.php that I think will generate flight plans and download to my PC. I just haven't figured out how to get a downloaded fp into the 737. I hope I don't have to type it in by hand...but I'll find out when I am in front of my computer later tonight.
  5. Thank you. When I get home I will try that fix. The plane sounds very, very good as I pipe the sound through a 150 watt amp driving floor mounted towers! JC
  6. I just purchased the 737 NGX and let me say it is awesome. I have owned many planes over the years including the Concorde, 727, 737, 747, 767, DC10, and more. But ths NGX is the best I have ever seen. Hats off to PMDG. So with that said I am wondering why with EVERYTHING shutdown I still hear noise in the cockpit. Air noises as if the fans or something were still on. I flew and landed and turned off the APU, engines, disconnected the battery, everything. Yet the cockpit still had what sounded like fans or engine sounds. Am I missing something here? BTW, there were no other jets parked next to me. Not a big issue at all, just wondering. JC P.S. I just did the first tutorial and was wondering how do I generate the flight plan to enter into the FMC for my own flights? Is there more help on programing the FMC? The tutorial said it was easy, just enter this data. But then there were changes and deletions that had to be made before I could EXEC the plan.
  7. What ones are missing? I am in New York state and of course would like to hear American sounding voices. I have a slight hearing lost and American voices are easier for me to understand too.
  8. Thanks for the info on Meatwater. Can't wait to try but I play to backup the original files just in case. Regarding asking for clearance once in the air, there is a reason why I asked. With the limited time I have used RC4, it seems like when at a large airport like JFK you have to start at the gate and go thru all the taxiways and end up at the proper runway. Often I don't have time for all that. Sometimes I just want to start at the runway and take off and not take a tour of the airport. JC
  9. Thank you both for your quick replies. When I get home tonight I will try these. I also found something called Meatwater Voice Pack2 which I plan to try tonight. Sounds very interesting! JC
  10. I bought RC 4.3 a long time ago but just now started to use it since MS FSX ATC stinks. But I am having some issues that I haven't found answers to yet although they may be burried in the 200+ page manual. 1. How do I disable MS's ATC? While I am using RC, MS's ATC runs and I hear those voices on top of RC's voices. Detuning the COM radios doesn't help as they automaticly get switched back during a flight. 2. Voice levels - the tower's vocies are lower in volume than the pilot's voice. Is there a volume control for each? 3. Lag time - I am running FSX on a pretty fast system but there seems to be a lag from when I select a number option in RC and when it responds (seconds). Can I fix this? Also, the text in the RC box is RED yet the examples show GREEN. Does that make a difference? 4. Is there a way to request IFR clearance once I am already in flight or do I have to start using RC while still on the ground? 5. Is RC still being updated? My ver is ver old and is 4.3. Is there anything newer? THanks for your help. If there is an FAQ on this, please point me there. JC
  11. Note sure where to post this as I do not know if it is a video, mouse or software issue: I am running FSX on a desktop Vista 64 machine with Nvida GTX 285 video card, Asus PT6 motherboard with builtin sound card and generic USB mouse and dual Acer LED monitors. Problem is very annoying. While flying if I haven't touch the mouse for a little while when I do move the mouse from anywhere on the screen, both monitors go blank for about 5 seconds and then return to normal. The sounds conitue and the plane keeps flying during the blank screens. I have updated to the latest video driver, no help. Happens with the stock planes and addon planes. Running FSX with SP2. Any ideas where to look next? JC
  12. Thank you. I started FSX and then started RC4 and it worked. I guess I need to reread the owners manual again! THanks! Joe
  13. I am running FSX and a long time ago I purchased RC4 and installed and it worked. I haven't used it in months and now tonight when I tried to run RC4, I get an error saying CAN NOT LINK TO FSUIPC and it aborts. I use FSUIPC for other apps like iFly 737 which I just bought. I believe my FSUIPC is the latest free ver or close to it. I tried re-installing RC4 but I get the same error. Please let me know what other info you need so I can get this resolved. Thanks. Joe
  14. Hello. I didn't mention it but I DID remove folders. I completely deleted the FSX folder under MICROSOFT GAMES and I also went to MY DOCUMENTS and delete all FSX related folders there. I am not sure where else it hides stuff.Joe C.
  15. Two times I have completely removed FSX and re-installed with SP1 and I am still getting an UNHANDLED WIN32 EXCEPTION IN FSX.EXE (2504) error and a dump back to the desktop. This happens in flight after a few minutes of flying, it happens while I am still selecting FREE FLIGHT options, etc. It happens with different planes and locations. I have absolutely no add-ons loaded. I am fine with just FSX but adding SP1 makes it crash. My system is running Windows XP on an Alienware system with AMD Athlon dual processor, NVIDA 7800GTX, 2 gig ram. HELP!Joe C
  16. I see Just Flight is releasing a DC10 for FSX on May 25. Any one seen the beta and know if it is any good or not? I am very upset because last year the day FSX came out I bought it and I deleted FS9 and all my heavy planes like PMDG 737, 747, DreamFleet 727 and Cap Sim C150. Stupid me I thought I read where the FSX developement team was working close with add-on plane developers like DreamFleet and PMDG so that when FSX was released, existing add-ons would work directly or with some minor patches. Boy, was I wrong. So I have not flown any airline planes since then. So I see that the DC10 is coming out shortly and I need to get my heavy airliner fix so I was wondering if the DC10 is worth the US $40...Joe C.
  17. Thanks, Steve, that did it. I guess I never flown from NYC in the spring time! 8-)Setting to summer fixed the problem every where.Joe C.
  18. OK, will try tonight. But for Mid-Atlantic I "DID" use the exisiting installation from FS9. It the past, like for South. CA, the area would be gray for seasons not supplied. But like I said over the weekend I'll fool around with seaons and stuff and see what I can find out. Thanks.Joe C.
  19. Help! New York City is under water! In order to load in the new SP1 patch I completely uninstalled FSX and reinstalled FSX. I then installed the SP1 patch. I then re-installed Megascenery New York (the old version, not the FSX ver). When I go to any NYC airport everthing is under water except the runways and some tall trees and buildings. All the land is covered with water every where. If I zoom out to see the East Coast, all the area covered by the NY Megascenery is under water.Next I went to the Mid-Atlantic area where I have Megascenery Mid-Atlantic and there all the land tiles are messed up. I see a repeated patteren of land. If I zoom out again all the area covered by Megascenery (old ver) is messed up.Is there something incompatable with SP1 and Megascenery (the old version)? I previously had everything loaded before SP1 working OK. Any comments?Joe C.
  20. Just in case you didn't know, Just Flight's TRAFFIC 2005 now works in FSX with a patch that you can download from their site.JC
  21. I was having video problems on the second monitor using FSX running with my Nvidia 7800GTX video card. What I was doing is from windows mode dragging the ATC and GPS windows to the second monitor and then switching to full screen mode as I had been doing in FS9 for years. However, when I did this, the ATC and GPS windows on the second monitor would flicker so much and had so much graphic artifacts that they were not usable. I was using drivers downloaded in May. I went to the NVIDIA site and download the latest they have and the flickering went away. Also, I couldn't respond to ATC by hitting '1' sometimes because the ATC windows didn't have focus. But I noticed that you don't have to be in windows mode to UNDOCK and DRAG windows to the second montior anymore. You can be right in full screen mode and just drag and the problem goes away.JC
  22. Just read there are 175 Easter Eggs in FSX. Maybe someone can start compiling a list?Joe C
  23. >Breaks are working fine with my CH pedals. At first I had to>reverse the axis, as they were always on. But now, left or>right pedals gove me differential, and bothe pedals at the>same time gives me full breaking. Sorry that's of no help to>you, but does let you know it's possible & must be a problem>with your set-up or compatibility between your pedals & FSX.Thanks for the heads up. I will check tonight because I too had a hard time stopping last night with the King Air and my CH Pedals. I went all the way to the end of my 5000' runway before I stopped!Joe C.
  24. I said that about the 727 because in the DF 747 forum on FLIGHTSIM I mention how I was having problems with the sounds of the DF 727. Basicly, after returning from an outside view, the cockpit sounds, particularly the ALT and nose break wheel, were uncontrolablity loud and howling. The fix I found out was to disable FULL ACELERATION in DIRECTX and use BASIC. Seems like a few of us Dell XPS owners have this problem. Also in the forum I mention how I have gaint floor standing speakers being powered by a nice 150 watt sound system and from OUTSIDE views, the Concorde's jet rumble is awesome whereas the 727's lack the low frequency component that gives you that "wow" affect. Perhaps the 727 jet sound is realistic, I don't know. It is just with a good system you can hear a marked difference between the two with the Concorde sounding better in my opinion.
