DoveTail Games Buys Licensing Deal with Microsoft

Fine by me, as long as they also allow 3d party DLC -
MS Flight continues... new rumours
RatRace replied to Heimi's topic in The Microsoft Flight (2012) Forum
Maybe DTG is threatening to put FSX on STEAM (perhaps with a few added hoop courses) just to drive the FSX crowd mad. I call it hysteromania. (hm, I just looked it up in the dictionary - perhaps not the word I was looking for. Oh wel ...) On a more serious note, as pointed out earlier by Orion, pcgamer has more interesting things to say: http://www.pcgamer.com/2014/07/09/microsoft-flight-simulator-x-and-x-plane-10-are-winging-their-way-to-steam/ "... the deal does not allow Dovetail to implement any graphical updates [to FSX], so the game will have something of a dated look. It will, however, make as many bug fixes as it can prior to release, and is also working to find a way around its dependence on GameSpy for multiplayer functionality." So, just a matter of squeezing the last bit of money out of FSX while it lasts. "It also confirmed that while it will be making "all-new flight sims using Microsoft's technology," it will not actually be making new Microsoft Flight Simulator games." In other words, they'll rebrand MS Flight and put it on STEAM, with additional DLC in years to come. At least, that's my interpretation, but stonelance said as much long before the gamespot and pcgamer articles. -

As far as age is concerned, the distribution is very much skewed to the left (i.e. the mass of the distribution is concentrated on the right of the figure). Conclusion: the flight sim community could use some fresh STEAM input. -

I can't imagine they would release DLC for the "ancient" MS FS engine ! So indeed, there is hope ! -

add to that, that XP10 is also to be released on Steam shortly. -

What exactly does "all-new flight products based on Microsoft’s genre-defining flight technology" mean? If it's DLC formerly known as add-ons for the FSX engine, the future looks bleak. If it's new content for MS Flight, at least the MS Flight community would be very pleased. -

If by EA you mean Electronic Arts, I was a big fan of Flight Unlimited III. If it's a continuation of MS Flight, I'm all for it. -

You should still be able to download the free version https://microsoftflight.com/en-us/getStarted/ You can't buy DLC anymore, hence no Alaskan wilderness pack and consequently no Carbon Cub -
Possibly. But what is the real cost of FS 9/X + all add-ons the average 'serious' flight simmer buys ?

How are yearly months defined in Australia\NZ versus Europe/USA?
RatRace replied to Dillon's topic in Hangar Chat
Ah, the eternal Coriolis effect myth. Although very real, too small to be of any relevance at the scale of draining water in a sink. If it does always spin in the "opposite" direction, it's probably because the manufacturer of the sink built in some bias towards that direction (so that people in the Southern Hemisphere wouldn't get too upset I suppose  ). Read carefully (very interesting reading): http://www.ems.psu.edu/~fraser/Bad/BadCoriolis.html -
What are you talking about? Farming simulator 2013 already has some fantastic lawn mowers

That's where you're so obviously wrong. They need it for fly fishing. -
Hm, looks like someone missed his true calling as a professional photographer

Quiet after the storm........
RatRace replied to HiFlyer's topic in The Microsoft Flight (2012) Forum
Well, just wait. Over at flighsim.com someone's claiming he's going to crowdfund a totally brand new flight sim. Maybe we can persuade him to purchase the MS Flight license instead  -
Says the man who savages (superb BTW) screenshots. :) Anyhow, it is clear to me now that bots are taking over the world ...

I've never been much of a multiplayer myself, but will do that. If it doesn't help, it won't hurt either. -
Good points: What can we know? How can we know it? Why do we know some things, but not others? How do we acquire knowledge? Is knowledge possible? Can knowledge be certain? How can we differentiate truth from falsehood? Why do we believe certain claims and not others?

It's times like these I wish I had studied philosophy

Ah yes, that must be it, thanks. If only I had learned to count in elementary school  One can only hope shutting down GFWL doesn't mean the end of aerocache hunting, or flying multiplayer. That really would be the death blow :( -

"Microsoft Sells License to FS Franchise" Part 2
RatRace replied to Tom Allensworth's topic in Hangar Chat
All that we have established so far is that it is most certainly not the executive director of a particular airline "out there" (somewhere). If we keep eliminating like this, we're bound to come up with the answer before Armageddon  -

RatRace replied to Tom Allensworth's topic in Hangar Chat
I had noticed that too. Not just MS Flight. The problem (if you can call it that) with flightsim.com these days is that the site only seems to attract those simmers that are perfectly content with either FS9 or FSX. I don't think they are even interested in something new. -
