  1. Well its nothing unusual for most folks that don't have an overabundanceof CPU power. The main culprits are; AI traffic, online weather updates, other programsrunning with FS, and any Windows or other background processes running. Antivirus and indexing being two of those that come to mind.
  2. Hi Dave; Go to Rolla Downtown...go into weather..advanced weather...set windsto 315 deg 15 gusting 25. Enable turbulance and wind shear...do a couple of touch and go's and let me know if it's too easy.:-lol And whatever you do always remember...Takeoffs are optional, butlandings are mandatory. :-badteeth
  3. Don; Fs9 was the same way...If you requested a touch and go it was "GroundHog Day":-lol Not too sure but I think you might be able to go ahead andrequest the second T@G then "cancel landing intentions" and that mightget you off the merry-go-round.BTW: Is this one of your missing posts???
  4. Rhett; I can say from experience that FS is actually better.:-lolOh! Something I forgot to mention in my replies. Go to your memory manufacturer's web site and usethier configurator, or whatever they call the method, for getting the recommended memory for your specificMobo. I was checking out Corsair's site a couple of weeks ago and found out that they will not recommend pc-3200RAM for my Mobo even though Asus says thats what it takes, they recommend pc-2700. I suspect they got tiredof warranties from this board. They also would only recommend pc2700 up to 1 gig, higher amounts than thatthey lowered the spec again. In my case I had tried to get 3 sticks of 512 to work but would get random CTD's. Ran prime 95, Memtest86,andseveral other tests that did not indicate a problem...but FS would find it.:-eek In my case I dropped my memory bus speed to 90% of the advertised 200Mhz and that cured it. It didn't seem tomake any difference in the way FS ran...it just stopped the CTD's. So....If you have the ability to manually lower your bus speed, try that before you send anything back. My personal experience has been that the amount of memory is more important than the speed to FS.
  5. OK Jon; Here goes.....It'll be just fine, why in no time you'll know allabout IAP's, DME, ILS, ATC, FAR's, VSI's, NDB's, VOR's, AOA, IAS, TAS,PAPI, VASI, REIL, HIRL, MIRL, and if not you'll be SOL:-lol Shouldn't take over two or three years:-eek but if you want to do itquicker, check out the glossary of terms in the learning center includedwith FS. Also might want to make a trip to the FAA web site and download a copy of the AIM.
  6. I would assume that your 3GB is three sticks of 1GB each.If thats true pull two of them out and fire up FS. If it hangs.....wait a while as it takes a while to load with 1 Gig, pull that stickand replace with another. If it doesn't hang then that one is a keeper.Do the same with the last one, if all three of them fail try loweringyour memory bus speed a little in BIOS.
  7. Does FSX stress or bring out faults in RAM modules?....Two words.... YOU BETCHA: :-lol Not just FSX but FS9 as well. In fs9 I had recurring CTDs and otheranomalys for months. Ran prime95, memtest86, and they showed no problem. Turned out to be a stick of 512MB that would not run at rated speed.
  8. Dan; To keep it brief......Nope and Nope. Bad cooling or PSU might do ithowever.
  9. Hi; Did you try unticking scenery areas you don't use as Craig suggested? Sure did cut my waiting time down.
  10. Just bring up the map view and either pause the cursor over the navaidor facility, or click on it and you'll have what you need.
  11. Bob; Click on free flight. When the screen comes up to choose aircraft, departure point, ect. Look about half way down and you'll see somebuttons. Press "Load" and it'll take you to the screen where you canselect your flight.
  12. Works fine. Just create an empty folder on your desktop, copy andpaste ALL the files from both CD's into it. Then initiate the installfrom that folder and it will run the whole thing without pausing.
  13. Hi; Not sure what kind of troubles you had with the sound card butswitching from onboard sound sure improved my results with fs9.
  14. Beardsy Have you had a look at the other posts on this subforum as they areall from folks having the same problem? Also nothing will stress your hardware/system as hard as a flight sim.The CTD problems are most likely your systems reaction to its inability to stand up under the strain. You could try a stress test utility like prime 95 for 24 hrs and see if your system can stand up under it.
  15. >This shows my inexperence in forums. My computer motherboard>is an ASUS A8N-SLI 939pin, grapfics card Radeon X300. I have>defraged my computer after installation. OK...and your question is?
  16. Mike; With the type of CTD you're describing, I would be highly suspiciousof RAM. Flight Sims will put your system memory thru a workout heavierthan most stress test utilities. If there is a weak link in your system FS will find it, and not justFSX either.
  17. Tosh; What most people are refering to is the fact that in FSX lowerframe rates to not produce the jerkiness and stuttering that wasprevalent in fs9. In my case in anything less than about 17 fps and fs9 was unflyable. With FSX 17fps looks and flys just fine. If the framerate indicatorwere not on you'd assume higher framerates.
  18. Hi Hugo; It's automated but you don't have to use the keypad unless the systemcan't understand your speech. Takes about 5 min.
  19. Christian; It controls placement of some generic autogen; gas stations, genericroad signs, power poles, phone poles, fastfood joints, misc chem tanks, billboards, silos, barns, ect. It does not effect trees...at least not in fs9. I've taken screenies of the same view with it enabled and not and itsreally hard to tell the difference from 2000agl.
  20. Fellas; I had the problem in fs9 when I was tracking down a CTD problem. I had suspected a bad stick of ram so I removed what was in my machine and inserted a single stick of known good 256MB. After cranking all sliders wide open....including traffic and heavymulti layer clouds, I encountered the same symptoms you're having:ie; ATC stuttering...repeating ect. Try backing of your other settings and see if the problem stillexists.
  21. Pat; If you actually want that question answered go to tdragers blogand look for a posting ...something like "final word on dual core"he did a good job of explaining what the issues are.
  22. Press "Alt" for menu bar. As to right clicking, it will enable "view menu" items on my comp. Because of the tremendous memory use of this program(904MB Max) onmine so far, you might have to wait a while for anything to happen.
