  1. Thanks, Reggie, for a straight answer.
  2. If so, I'd appreciate your advice. Under 'Support Alert: Files Removed on FSX Uninstall,' the fs insider site has this: "When uninstalling, users will be asked if they would like to remove their 'save game' files ...if they choose to keep them, the added files will remain in the same locations after Flight Simulator is uninstalled." OK, but when I go to uninstall, I'm presented with a dilemma. The only options are [1] Repair: uninstall all program features installed by the previous setup, and [2] Remove: remove all installed features. I click hopefully on Remove, but nobody's giving me any choices. It seems to be a straight Yes/No to removal. I could click Yes just in case the 'save game option' appears, but at that point I chicken out and seek help rather than plunge into potential disaster ...
  3. I was about to upgrade to an 8800GT and Core Duo 6850,but there have been so many complaints about the 8800 GT that I'm now dubious. At 84 I have no skills whatever in handling video card problems: I need reliability. I imagine that the 7950 GT has been going long enough for problems to be sorted? Hopefully it would give me enough performance improvement to be worthwhile? If so, what would be the best driver? Any advice would be much appreciated. AMD 4000+Geforce 6800 GT2 gig RAM
  4. Thanks for that, Phil. I'm one of the unlucky ones for whom Acceleration is a very mixed blessing, creating so many CTDs and other hassles that I'm having to delete. The one good point for me was the scenery improvement - better contrast, fewer blurries. Am I right in hoping that SP2 solo will retain the scenery improvements and be more stable without the added complications contained in the Acceleration package?

  6. I've been running mine with 77.77 drivers for several years, and no problems with fs9 or FSX. But today I had my first CDT, plus a Microsoft error message blaming Nvidia drivers and recommending an update. I've tried several times in the past to install later drivers, but without success, so have reverted to 77.77. However, it seems I should try again. Question: which to choose this time? If your 6800 runs well with stable drivers, I'd appreciate a word of advice.Athlon 4000+Nvidia Geforce 6800 GT2 mb RAM77.77 drivers
  7. If so, have you found a stable driver? For two years I've used 77.77 with fs9 and FSX, and had no problems. But today, while running post-SC1 FSX, I've had my first-ever CDT and first Microsoft response to an error report: "problem caused by Nvidia graphics driver. Recommendation: update driver." But which to choose? On past experience, going for the latest only seems to work if you have the latest video cards, so Ive always rolled back to my faithful 77.77. If anyone can recommend an update, I'd really appreciate it.Athlon 4000+2mb RAMNvidia Geforce 6800 GT77.77 drivers
  8. The creator is Adam Mills. I'm not sure, but believe he could well have done the Fs9 textures.
  9. Before I part with 640 mb for an eight-part download, I'd like to see what's on offer... Comparison screenshots would be a help, as would candid opinions. Is the effect on FSX really worthwhile?
  10. Thanks, Henrik - but where did you find the gauges/ That's my problem!
  11. I've transferred several of my fs9 favourites successfully, but not Dave Eckert's beautiful Stearman. The aircraft flies fine in FSX, and looks even better than in fs9, but the panel has only blank holes for the instruments, and I can't trace any gauges in my fs9 Gauges folder. If anyone has succeeded in importing the Stearman, advice would be much appreciated. [Maybe aliasing would be possible, but I don't know how to do it]
  12. Could you be a bit more specific? I've followed the link, but there's no mention of FSX. Just "you want to download Tweaker's CFG"Not to be sceptical, but why?
  13. The 77.77 drivers have served me well for a year in Fs9, but with my FSX in the post I thought I'd better follow the often-offered advice to upgrade to the latest, so installed 91.47. Result: nightmare. Whenever I take any action - change scene, time, weather, aircraft, etc - I get parallel bars flashing across the screen, like a duff TV set. Scenery building has gone to pot: slow, errartic, long pauses. From the air an airfield will often show as a white patch and I have to hit scenery refresh. I'm getting jerks and stutters and hesitations I've never experienced before. My instinct is to revert to 77.77, but I wonder - has anyone else had problems with 91.47, and if so how did they solve them? Is the answer perhaps somewhere in that complicated new Nvidia control panel?Bottom line: is there truly any benefit in changing from 77.77, and if so, can anyone recommend a really stable driver version?Any advice would be much appreciated...Amd 4000+Geforce 6800GT2 gigs RAM300 HD
  14. >>>Also try the the Autogen tweak that PC12 posted.>I'd appreciate it if you could let me have a link, or any other reference so I can track it down.Regards Peter
  15. It's water ballast being dumped from wing tanks
  16. Your panel is superbly crisp, and I'm jealous! I've tried again and again to get my 260 into FSX, following tips in previous posts, but with only partial success. The aircraft itself is OK, flaps, gear and sound all function, but in exterior view I have no canopy, and the pilot has turned black ... as for the panel and prop, this pic tells the sad story. If you could give me any clues to what I've missed and/or should do to, my 260 and me would much appreciate it.
  17. Manny, I have the aircraft in the demo, all well except for blank gauges. How did you install those?
  18. That's very helpful, Korber. If I may ask one question - how about the gauges?
  19. The only thing that bugs me. It did in 2004, but could be improved with Mipmap. No Mipmap in FSX, so can anyone suggest possible ways to reduce / do away with the shimmer? I'm very happy with everything else, maxed out and framerate locked on 27.AMD 4000+Geforce 6800GT2 gigs RAM
  20. Maybe I'm lucky, but the demo works very well for my middling rig - AMD 4000+, Geforce 6800GT, 2 gig RAM. I run it with everything maxed out, framerate locked on 27, and it's gorgeous! Only one bug:my Baron lacks a pilot. Only three criticisms: the framerate drop when flying low over forests, the irritating shimmer of trees - cured with mipmap on my 2004, but how on FSX? - and the sharp joins of grass to runway and land to water. Otherwise, full of good things, like the facility to take and print screenshots, and the Map that shows islands in 3d. For me the biggest improvements over 2004 are the realistic countryside, with its variation of field, crop and forest, and a landscape which stretches to the horizon, rather than shading off to a featureless blur. Slew to 10,000 feet, and in 2004 the neighbouring islands are flat. But in FSX they're in 3d. Brilliant!
  21. So how on earth can an increasing number of payware people claim that their product is 'FSX compatible?'
  22. I would if I could, but I know my limitations...
  23. I ditched my four year old machine, and spent the kids' inheritance on what was for me a powerful new beast, plus a new copy of Century of Flight. Goodbye to those nagging fs9 problems. Right? Wrong. Right from the start, this computer just doesn't like flying. Time and time again it'll start "loading terrain," and freeze at maybe 10% or 12%. Total block. I have to reboot. To complete a load of scenery is exceptional. And the old machine never did this to me! Any clues would be very welcome.athlon 4000+Geforce 6800GT2 gig RAM300 hard drive550 PSU
