  1. Not with a constant speed prop though as the prop governor will always hold the same RPM
  2. Typically you should pull the mixture lever rearward (lean as opposed to rich) every couple thousand feet in the ascent, normally you monitor the exhaust gas temperature (EGT) guage while you're leaning and 25° C rich of peak EGT should be your target. You'll hear the engine's sound change as you lean so it's possible you can also lean by the sound. Likewise in the descent you would do the opposite. Ctrl+Shift+F2 also leans the mixture, Ctrl+Shift+F3 enrichens it, Ctrl+Shift+F4 is full rich, and Ctrl+Shift+F1 is full lean (idle cutoff, the engine dies, which is the proper way to shut down an aircraft engine incidentally).
  3. Always enjoy your screenshots HLJames, excellent set here!
  4. Hi Scott, surely you found and nuked HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\microsoft games\flight simulator\10.0? There's also a convoluted thread over at fsdeveloper on all the possible registry keys: http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/registry-keys-fsx-fsx-se-p3dv1-p3dv2.432633/ Jim
  5. I guess you're SOL, I wish I could give you my water, the animations are lost on me, I spend most of my time flying around deserts in the southwest US, lol.
  6. Try this then, these are the default v3 wave animations from a write protected backup I made 30 seconds after I installed v3. They go in the Prepar3D v3\Texture folder, see if they make your waves work. P3Dv3_default_water_normals.zip
  7. As I recall you said you were using REX3? Did you see my post at the beginning of this thread about the water animations changing between v2.3 and v2.4? If your animations aren't working I wonder if it's because REX3 isn't putting V2.4+ compatible wave animations in the texture folder, they are entirely different. old on the left, new on the right:
  8. I don't see it in the file library either but you can get it here: https://github.com/nmeier/fscode/releases ...and here's an overview on how it works: https://github.com/nmeier/fscode/wiki/Realtrim Jim
  9. Get the ancient 172 and adapt RealAir's freeware FDE to work with it. It's in the library, ras172_fs9.zip. Sorta follow the readme but use the Carenado model instead. I think the Skyhawk is on sale for something like $5, the FDE is free so for 5 bucks you get something that rivals A2A's $50 airplane. Unless of course you're not into low & slow... I also liked the Arrow IV a lot. The 182 RG didn't really do it for me. There's a turbo mod somewhere around here (Avsim or flightsim.com, can't remember) though that gives you a bit more haulassability, that makes it a little more interesting.
  10. "Subtle and focused" for me, water color disabled (default P3D v3 water textures). I agree with GHarral, too blue.
  11. Note that the water animations changed between v2.3 and v2.4 so if you're trying to use any older addons (FSX) that modify water animations it will kill the wave animations. I believe the changed file was OceanHeight20FieldLayer5.dds. If you use REX4 make sure you select "DX11 enabled (P3D v2.4 - P3D v3)" for wave animations on the main configuration page. I'm not thrilled with the water in P3D either BTW
  12. Well it's really just a matter of moving the Carenado, Effects, Fonts, Gauges, Simobjects, and Sound folders into P3D3, all those individual files get moved in the process. Not nearly as bad as it looks. lol.

  14. Really looking spectacular, your color adjustments are perfect!
  15. Thanks very much for all the awesome comments people, much appreciated! Actually Bill that's the PC-12, I don't have the 350P but I'm really tempted to buy it before the sale is over, only thing stopping me is I think it's a bit slow for the types of flights I like to do, I may buy it anyway however because a slower airplane will probably come in handy when SCA is finally released! (which hopefully will be any day now, tap, tap...) For the PC-12 though if you have it, my (rather quick) edit for the GTN looks like this: [Vcockpit04] . . //gauge01=EX500_PC12!EX500_3D, 0, 0, 513,409 gauge01=F1GTN!GTN750VC, 75,45,370,290,UNIT1 I'll probably fine-tune things a bit as I'm not completely happy with the positions and size yet. I still have the GTN on a pop-up because that VC panel is down by your knees so you have to look down and zoom in quite a bit to use it, also you have no "Direct to" button. Clicking the Avidyne logo still opens the Avidyne in a pop-up so my plan is to change that so it opens the GTN window instead, that should be a simple matter of swapping out gauge03 with a custom one that opens ident=14401 (the GTN panel). Hi Lamar, if you mean the aircraft lighting on the taxiway that's a simple matter of reloading the aircraft, otherwise they don't show up. Seems to affect them all as the Turbine Duke needs the same treatment. I assigned Ctrl+Shift+A to "reload user aircraft" in the key bindings, reloading the aircraft needs to be part of your pre-start checklist though because reloading the aircraft restarts the GTN and then you need to punch in your flight plan and all that stuff a 2nd time. Hopefully that'll be fixed in v3.1. If you mean the scenery lighting, it's a combo of FTX Global autogen lighting and UTX v2 lighting for the roads. I turn off vector road lights in FTX Central 2. IMHO the UTX light splashes look better in FSX than they do in v3 (see last screenshot which is from FSX), in v3 the edges of the light spots are more visible where in FSX they fade/blend better around the edges. FTX regions cancel out the UTX lights I believe so when I'm using NA as opposed to Global Hybrid in FTX Central I turn the vector road lights back on. Hi Scott, I hope you're enjoying your first experiences with P3D3! The PC-12 was sort of an afterthought for me, I thought it was silly looking (pointy nose) so I probably wouldn't have bought it at full price but after flying it I have to say it's hand flying qualities are about the best I've ever experienced. Amazing speed envelope, it'll get out and really haul the mail at altitude yet you can slow it down and land it like a Cub. The F406 flies beautifully by hand too but it falls out of the sky at a higher airspeed than the PC-12, probably true to real life I suppose. Bernt Stolle is doing the FDEs on most of these newer Carenado/Alabeo releases so they're really good IMHO, I dunno if they're 100% accurate but they have an excellent feel in the stick. Systems in both are fairly advanced, there's an IAS climb/descent mode for example where the AP will hold a specific airspeed all the way up, lowering the nose as necessary to maintain the pre-selected speed as power bleeds off. I still haven't figured out what the deal on prop RPM is with the PC-12, there's no prop control, #####?! You can change it with Ctrl+F2 / F3 but I'm not sure I'm supposed to be doing that? I guess a little RTFM may be in order, lol. I also plan on thoroughly investigating all the PC-12 mods everyone's done here in the PC-12 forum but just haven't made it that far yet. You have to bluff the installer BTW to get the PC-12 into v3, the F406 has an option to install into v3 directly. Hi Greg, yep FTX global, most of the NA regions, and REX4. In REX4 I have disabled low level clouds, day sky effects, global water, runway details, taxiway details, taxiway marks, airport lighting, and all the sound effects. For those I use: Low level clouds: HDE v2 (cumulus01.bmp, 256px converted to DXT5) Day sky effects: HDE v2 (converted to 32 bit for FSX/P3D) global water: whatever FTX Global supplies runway/taxiway details: This freeware Runway Detail Texture Set but resized to 256px and I also swapped runways for taxiways by renaming the files ("runway_detail.bmp" renamed "taxiway_detail.bmp" and vice versa, etc.) Taxiway marks: I made them myself back in the FS9 days, really tattered and worn Airport lighting: the halo.bmp supplied with A2A's Shockwave Lights Sounds: default Favorite REX4 community theme so far: Illicit REX by John Enema  (and some of my own themes as well, I change things around frequently) Thanks again everyone and sorry about the lengthy reply!
  16. Thanks Mitch, much appreciated! I find v3 quite a bit smoother than v2.4 was, I never updated to v2.5 until after I had v3 installed but I actually think v2.5 was a little smoother than v2.4 so I'm kickin' myself for holding on to 2.4 the time. The difference is subtle at least at first glance, but I like the look of v3 a lot better than v2.x - it's a lot brighter mostly but I dunno, things just look better and I can't really put my finger on what I like better about it. I've never had VAS problems in any sim except I think it was v2.1 where everyone was having OOMs left & right but I do think I get a little better performance for the same amount of candy in v3 than I got in v2.x. I finally shuffled my Prepar3D v2 folder off onto a backup drive to free up space so I could put more stuff in v3, still have FSX installed but it's been a while since I've flown in FSX. Jim
  17. "Random" means I can't remember the story behind them anymore! Anyway I thinned down about 500 shots to just these 20 and emptied out the v-key folder. There's even a shot of the default FSX Lear 45! All shots are from P3D v3 except the last which is from FSX-MS. Click on any screenshot to see them all full sized in an external gallery arrangement, hope you like 'em and thanks for looking! Jim
  18. I recently installed the PC12 too (in P3D v3) and I did a 2+ hr flight last evening without any autopilot, I don't see any problem and never came close to running out of down elev trim. Don't see any problem on startup either but it's best if you cycle your joystick throttle a few times and move the VC throttle and condition levers stop to stop before you hit the starter button. I use RealTrim (in all my sims) which makes trimming a lot more realistic IMHO, RealTrim is matched perfectly to the PC12 where on some aircraft it takes a couple jabs to get it trimmed if it's a long ways out. Freeware in the file library IIRC, try it out I think you'll like it. Jim
  19. It tells about it on their facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Carenado You can scroll down a ways till you see the 206 screenshot, then there's a "show more" link that expands out a list of what they fixed. Jim
