  1. Beautiful shots Mitch and I completely agree the Caravan II is awesome! I Your FSX/DX10 looks fabulous!
  2. You have to click the ARM button again if you had it armed prior to clicking the IAS button. Then it'll level off at the preset altitude. I forget to do that 2 out of 3 times
  3. Hi Bert, I'm interested in your opinion on this one, here's the scenario: Initiate a climb, trim for 140 KIAS then Shift+2 the 2D autopilot open and engage the autopilot. Click the IAS button then note (1) the IAS value on the Aspen, and (2) the IAS value indicated by the tooltip when you hover the mouse over the rocker switch on the 2D autopilot. My observation is when you click IAS the Aspen sets the speed hold value to your current airspeed (140), the tooltip on the rocker switch shows "0" however and the plane noses up drastically trying to achieve 0 kts. Now roll the mousewheel one click either way over the rocker switch on the 2D autopilot and watch what happens to the tooltip - does yours then jump immediately to 140 (or the value shown on the Aspen +/- the additional knot from rolling the mousewheel one click)? I would consider this a bug but I have no idea how these things are supposed to work in the real world, IMHO the value shown in the tooltip should also set itself to your current speed so the nose doesn't pitch up wildly. I looked at some of the gauge scripts but it didn't become obvious to me where the problem lies - or maybe it doesn't have anything to do with a gauge at all? Anyway, the workaround I've been using is to click the IAS button on the AP and then immediately roll the mousewheel forward over the rocker switch, if you do it quickly enough you can avoid the nose pitching theatrics. I've found in a climb it's actually best to roll the mousewheel forward about 3 clicks, in other words immediately increase the speed hold value about 3 kts above your current IAS. In the descent I find I need to increase the speed value 5-7 kts to avoid the pitch-up. I believe this is because the AP seems to want to hold about 10 kts less than the actual selected value in the descent and in the climb maybe just 2 or 3 kts above the actual selected value. I would put that on my bug list and also lack of a manual for the Aspen as some have indicated the Bonanza comes with one. I don't have the Bonanza, so no manual, lol.
  4. Those are some killer shots Mitch, I don't have this one and that red/black/white is making it very tempting except that I already spent my FS allotment for the next three years six months ago at the last Orbx sale! Enjoyed the rant about the ballistic recovery chute, LMAO and I agree Carenado - make the lever inop if you can't simulate a chute deployment but FFS don't make it "crash" my sim!
  5. If you've got a GTN in you're Maule I assume you're paying the subscription for the latest navdata, my understanding is it can be used to update the trainer data as well but I'm afraid I couldn't tell you how to do it. I think you need an SD card reader and then you copy some files from the SD card into the C:\ProgramData\Garmin folder. The current trainer DB is APR 2015. I think it explains how to update the trainer's database from your real world SD card somewhere in the main manual.
  6. It seems to me the weather radar still works without CMeteoXml.dll in the dll.xml unless you guys are seeing something I'm not?
  7. It seems to me the weather radar still works without CMeteoXml.dll in the dll.xml unless you guys are seeing something I'm not?
  8. The one in the panel, the Aspen then usually sets itself to the selected value when you press the ARM button. Only reason it does that from what I can tell is so it can flash a yellow alert box on screen at +- 1000'. I haven't seen where it's possible to set ALT in the Aspen beyond use as a visual alerter, it seems to just sorta follow along (which I doubt is the case in the real world).
  9. KDYL doesn't have any approaches with vertical guidance in trainer version 5.13 (or on Airnav that I can tell), try RNAV 10R Z GPS LPV at KMRY.
  10. This one over at has fsdeveloper has me fired up: http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/cessna-u206g-soloy-turbine-pac-mark-i-ii.431628/ I predict this will never make it to the freeware file libraries, some publisher will make him an offer he can't refuse, lol. Either way I'll be the first in line on release day
  11. Can you isolate this crash to the GTN if you put the Navajo back to default by running CAR530PA31310.exe in the root SimObjects\Airplanes\Carenado PA31-310 Navajo folder? How about if you install the GTN into the default Baron, does that crash too? I just did a flight in the Navajo with an LPV approach into Monterey and the whole 9 yards and the sim (v3) closed normally. I don't have any P3D-related processes running in the task manager afterwards. I suspect if you can isolate it to the GTN Tiberiu would probably like to know about it in the GTN forum. Hope you get it sorted. Jim
  12. I have the same problem with CMeteoXml.dll in v3, I can't put it in the dll.xml or else the sim crashes. To be honest I don't know what I'm missing, everything seems to work fine. The F406 didn't try to put that in my dll.xml with it's v3 native installer, although it did when I installed it into FSX. I have no idea what this .dll does, the filename would imply something weather-related but I can't tell the difference between the Navajo in FSX with the .dll running vs P3D v3 without. I don't remember having any problems closing the sim after the Navajo's been loaded but I'll try it and see. Jim
  13. Click on the very top edge of the VC mounted unit, there's a similar clickspot then on the resulting 2D panel.
  14. There were some isolated cases where the glideslope wasn't working in GTN v1.12 but this was addressed in the latest patch to v1.13. You can tell the GTN version on (I think) the first boot-up screen. To update just download the F1 wrapper again from the GTN sales page and run the installer. If that's not it I don't know what to tell you, mine works almost exactly like any default ILS except the CDI source is on GPS rather than VLOC (or NAV as we know it in default). Jim
  15. That's what I thought too but actually the default EH101 doesn't have 'em either: // EH101 [Window Titles] Window02=GPS Window03=Minipanel //-------------------------------------------------------- [Window02] Background_color=0,0,0 size_mm=456,378 position=8 visible=0 ident=GPS_PANEL window_size=0.5 gauge00=fs9gps!gps_500, 0,0 //-------------------------------------------------------- [Window03] Background_color=0,0,0 size_mm=456,378 position=7 visible=1 ident=MINIPANEL window_size=0.4,0.4 alpha_blend=0.7 gauge00=EH101!EH101_MFD,0,0,456,378, PFD [Vcockpit01] Background_color=0,0,0 size_mm=1024,1024 visible=1 pixel_size=1024,1024 texture=$EH101_01 gauge00=EH101!EH101_MFD,6,7,280,230, PFD gauge01=EH101!EH101_MFD,293,7,280,230, MFD gauge02=EH101!EH101_EICAS,6,243,350,256, LEFT gauge03=EH101!EH101_EICAS,6,507,350,256, RIGHT gauge04=EH101!EH101_DEFIG,361,243,210,115 gauge05=EH101_map!radio,588,335,190,240 gauge06=EH101_map!radio,805,335,190,240 gauge07=eh101_map!eh101_map,579,7,425,320 (There's your backup disguised as an example  ) EDIT: I think if you want the minipanel to come up with shift+4 you have to change ident=MINIPANEL to something else, any random number between 10000 and 19999 will work ie ident=12345
  16. GTN v1.13 released yesterday fixes "the glideslope not working under certain configurations", maybe that's the problem? v1.13 announcement thread: http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=53928&title=gtn-patch-113 glideslope not working thread: http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=53890&title=gtn-113-glideslope Still should have had a GS when tuned to an ILS though...
  17. What I usually do is make my flight plan in the Garmin Trainer outside the sim and make one at the same time in Plan-G. Sometimes you have to add user waypoints in Plan-G where current real world fixes don't exist in the FSX/P3D database. When I start the flight I'll load the Plan-G flight plan in the flight planner and then the Aspen, G500 or whatever shows basically the same thing as the GTN, the waypoint sequencing works, etc. Scott, there's a "Link CRS" option for the GTNs but I think that just makes the CDI needle auto-adjust between flight plan legs. I'm not sure but I think the GTN just sends "direct to" commands to the FS autopilot depending on which leg of the GTN flight plan is active.
  18. Also after you left click either of the buttons, i.e. when HDG turns pink you can right click the button again to snap the HDG value to your current heading. Same for CRS, ALT, etc. Sergio, the plan in GPS2 is the same as the plan in GPS1 (would be if you didn't have the GTN installed) which is the FS .pln you load or make from the Scenario > Flight Planner screen, if you want the AP to follow the plan in GPS2 you have to right click the SD card on the GTN. The plan in the GTN is independent of the sim, remember the Garmin trainer runs as an independent program on Windows so I don't think there would be any way to get it's flight plan imported into the Aspen which is simply an XML gauge. The G500 in the Malibu JetProp behaves the same way when the GTN is installed BTW.
  19. The VOR gauge would definitely be coded to work with either NAV1 or NAV2. Are you sure you're not missing the GS indicators? You're not looking for a needle, you're looking for these two little yellow pointers:
  20. Interesting stuff, I wonder if the pilot gets tired of flying north/south, north/south all day long? Looks like "Vigilant" is used mostly when the aircraft is used in a govt capacity, maybe that's a military designation? Maybe Caravan II is the "academic license"? So where's everybody flying? Anyone got any favorite approaches? Do you guys fly the same approach over and over again when you can't nail it the first time? I've been trying to perfect my KEGE LDA 25, probably 10 tries now, I've always made the landing but I still don't feel like I've nailed it. Nice flight is to leave KAPA Denver Centennial on the rocky two departure, the RLG (Kremmling) transition sets you up perfectly for the LDA at Eagle. I took some pics: http://www.cat-tamer.com/flightsim/atchmnts/kapa_kege.html Another fun approach I did on my way to Eagle was ILS 17 at KLGU Logan, UT from the MLD (Malad VOR) transition, you do a little DME arc through the valley there which was pretty scenic at dusk. You need an afcad update though because the ILS frequency isn't in the FSX/P3D database. Time for a flight, have fun guys!
  21. Yeah Mitch I was kinda wondering what's so dangerous about it myself actually. There are a couple mountaintops you get relatively close to though where you could be dead if you were a thousand feet-ish below the GS. That's probably a danger in IFR conditions I suppose, not much room for error. Did you check out that Premeir Driver's channel BTW? He's got dozens of cool videos there, I spent an hour or so and I plan on going back until I've seen 'em all, lol. I don't get this KEGE LDA 25 approach, Maybe Ryan can enlighten me? You have no vertical guidance from the GPS and the ILS is offset about 3° to the right which is fine but from watching the Premier Driver video you can tell he was flying straight-in, way too far left to be on the localizer - unless Orbx's localizer isn't right but I can't really find anything on the net that confirms one way or another. So I gather what you're supposed to do is fly the GPS for lateral guidance and tune the ILS on NAV2 so you can manage the glideslope manually? I think it only happens when you have the ILS freq tuned in NAV1 but the GTN will switch automatically between GPS and VLOC about 5 miles out and then the aircraft makes a hard right turn trying to align itself on the localizer. Maybe that's why it's so dangerous, lol. If you override and stay in GPS mode it'll put you pretty much down the centerline of the runway. The chart says "for LDA/GS fly visual to airport 246° - 4.3 NM" so maybe I'm supposed to be on manual control by the time the GTN switches the Nav source. I've probably flown this approach a dozen times and I still don't feel like I've "nailed it" yet, keep messing up my speed and altitude of course I'm still getting the airplane figured out so that doesn't help much either. Heck I dunno, that's the beauty of flight simming, you don't have to know and you're not gonna die or break expensive airplanes over it! Well anyway here's a couple shots, my "Premiere Driver emulation attempt", lol. Click on the picture if you wanna see more, the flight originated at KAPA Denver Centennial flying the Rockies Two departure. I've flown it 10 times at various times of year with ASN and all, perfect flight for this airplane, here's the last turn onto final at KEGE, this is what it's all about right here!
  22. This guy must be sourcing some aerial imagery, check out the flight path, I wonder how they plotted that one out in the GTN? http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N27NW/history/20151026/1406Z/KBDL/KDXR Why are they calling this a Cessna F406 Vigilant? I've never seen it called that before. I think I have the right airplane, you can click on the photos link and look at the pics, this one for example says Caravan II right on the fuselage. Well anyway, just thought that was interesting. Hope you're all enjoying your F406 flights, I definitely am!
  23. Hi WH, the aux pump lights can be extinguished by first left clicking and then right clicking on the fuel boost switches just behind the batt/gen switches. This puts them back in the same position they started in but it somehow trips an Lvar or something that turns the lights off. On the dome light I added this line to the [Lights] section in the aircraft.cfg (from the Titan but using the F406 supplied vc light effect) [lights] //Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing light.0 = 10, 3.5, 0.00, 1.50, fx_vclightalaccct Jim
