  1. You are using everything that I use. That is good news, indeed. Have Pilot's provided an installer for P3D3 already? I looked on their website, briefly but could not find an updater. Does it automatically appear when you insert disc 1 or... Jon Shearer
  2. I think, until the novelty wears off, I intend to only install FS Global 2010, ORBX/FTX_Global_Base v1.30 and all the ORBX LC's I just bought. Amen on the ORBX installers. VECTOR too. Absolutely agree to the superiority of this version of the simulator. Process Explorer resides on one of my other screens, along with Speedfan to monitor cpu usage and temps. Mine is a reasonable system but it isn't even changing up. I live in Australia and have ORBX YBBN. My home town. The default scenery in FSX has always been a hog around Brisbane and if you fly towards the city it is a big frame rate hit. Gone in this new version. Full marks to ORBX for even attempting YBBN in the first place. It will be interesting to see if it has a beneficial effect on the performance of YBBN. If I can get all of my PMDG aircraft running as well as the PMDG 777, it will be fantastic. Jon Shearer
  3. Hi Everyone. I just had to come in and make a comment about my installation of the base 777 200LR into P3D3. It's sensational. I cannot believe the smoothness. P3D3 is a completely different simulator, which, out of the box has very acceptable scenery. The PMDG model is 'tight' and 90 - 95% of all jaggies are absent and marching ants on wings gone, a thing of the past. Crazy thing is: I got heaps of scenery and airports to be inserted, yet. Gives me second thoughts about changing anything ie meshes, open lc's etc going in. The only PMDG aircraft I have for this new evolution is the 777 but I have 4 others that I can think of in FSX. Because, I must have a PMDG 737 NGX, this is going to be quite an expensive exercise but well worth it. BTW, this smoothness is achieved at 20 fps. International flight, in real time, here I come. Jon Shearer
  4. Hello, In a new simulator, for me, smoothness is paramount. I have quite a lot of add on scenery as well as complex aircraft and a 15 year history with MS Flight Simulator in its many versions. I have learned through, some bitter, some sweet, experiences that smoothness is the the best choice in a flight simulator. i used to kid myself that I could realistically fly, say a PMDG 737 Ngx with scenery loaded. Yes, it would fly but 13 fps one way on a runway and 10 fps in the other direction, convinced me I was on the wrong track. So, my installation of FSX contains zero add on scenery. I fly with bog standard FSX Scenery and ASN (because it doesn't seem real enough without it) and turn 30 fps (in sim) just about everywhere except the VC, where the framerate never drops below 20 fps and the program is smooth beyond words. This is not an attack on add on scenery providers. I love their stuff and have purchased much of it but for complex aircraft, flying at 34000, it is a hindrance to smooth flight (on my setup) and unnecessary (FSX scenery looks acceptable from high altitudes). Low and slow, less complex aircraft, use scenery. If you are flying tubeliners, having scenery is nice but not really necessary. New Flight Simulator? FPS hovering in the 30 fps and smoothness. Give me that and I'll buy it. Jon Jon
  5. I lost total heart when I mistakenly installed it to my C: Drive. Must be brain shrink I think. The old brain has had a hiding. Ah, Youth. Wasted on the young. Now the only Flight Simulator able to run is FSX, which it does very well. (Which brings me to a point along the way. Bandwidth in Australia is platinum coated and I do not wish to use it totally downloading a program I already have. Just nice manageable updates please, devs.) ASN might work again once I re download it. I'm at that point in time where a complete and total OS reinstall is necessary, so I'll come back to report my victory over P3D v2.5 after the fact. I am not looking forward to this. Jon Shearer
  6. Thanks, I just did it. I hate flying without ASN and REX Soft Clouds. Jon Shearer
  7. Thank you for the info everyone. Now, here goes for about a 4 hour download and no, I'm not on dial-up, just live in Brisbane, Australia. Jon Shearer
  8. Hi everyone, I am about to download P3D v2.5 and already have v2.4 with the 777 200lr installed. This is merely to ask whether I can expect any known issues when installing the aircraft to v2.5 ? I am so pleased with v2.4 and the 777 that I do not want to break a fully functioning install. Jon
  9. Thanks for your replies. Apologies for not answering earlier but I've been in hospital for hand surgery. Just got home. I did ignore the effects and was not too fussed about the glitch. I was merely checking to see if other people had them working. BTW, just flew ybbnwsss (Brisbane australia to singapore) with fps around 15 all the way. Smooth as silk AND all with one hand. Jon Shearer I'll definitely check that out. Jon Shearer Waiting until 01/04/15 when I will have some bandwidth to play with. Jon Shearer
  10. I held off buying the 777 until I had a platform with a future. P3D v2.4. 2.5 will be downloaded next month and will consume 1/5 of my bandwidth in 1 fell swoop. Everything on the 777 works as PMDG designed it but at cruise, I have 2 contrails. The first is as it should be but the second one goes off at a tangent and seems to imitate yaw. It also recycles every second, stop/start. I did google the problem but came up with zip. Is this a known issue? Jon Shearer
  11. I watch my vas, pull back a few settings, hold my mouth right and take off in the 747 400 and everything goes swimmingly until abt an hour into the flight, the gauges disappear one by one. Can't wait for the v2 but in the meantime does anyone know of a fix for this problem? Jon Shearer
  12. I just find it puzzling that so few enthusiasts, worldwide can sustain such a burgeoning industry. Surely there are more than we know. Jon
  13. Now you mention it, I'm not too sure anyone knows where all these changes are going to end up. I suspect an area of the market is emerging that has everyone placing their bets very conservatively viz 'Flight'. I once heard what I believed to be a very low figure of only 180,000 simmers world wide. This no more than 5 years ago. I wonder if the figure has been re measured lately. Don't ask me how to measure it but it would be an interesting comparison. I'm with you on the purchase decisions. With my local currency back around where it should be, the add on I purchase will be top quality but the purchase will be considerably less often. Jon
  14. Re: The moving goal posts: I just checked out the sp1d update for PMDG 777 and the NGX and it gives me the option of installing into FSX SE. At least I would have my 2 favourite tubeliners at the get go. The pendulum is swinging. Jon Shearer
  15. As I mentioned in my initial post, "it works both ways". It's disappointing is all. I do not criticise developers charging for their efforts, especially in the case of PMDG. When I can afford it, my next must have is the DC6B for X-Plane. After pondering on the subject for a while: The cost is not the only consideration ie I have 4 Flight Sim programs. FSX Accel appears to be in its death throes with the advent of FSX SE but FSX Accel is where the major part of my investment has ended up, X Plane has not grabbed me yet. Perhaps the DC6B will change that but the biggest decision is, what horse do I invest my money on. Do I stay with P3D and invest my dough, there or do I sign up for FSX SE and still have to re-acquire all my beloved aircraft. At this stage I believe P3D is the one but with the goal posts moving what seems like, daily, my mind may be changed tomorrow. Jon Shearer I don't keep much change. I'm the old bloke at the supermarket checkout with 6 or 8 people waiting to get through, slowly counting his change into the operators hand...and can anyone tell me why it is that the credit card that does not work belongs to whomever is in front of me. Jon Shearer
  16. I just purchased the 777 for P3D v2.4 and took advantage of the initial 'special' offer. Glad I did. It only cost me $au 120.00 or so. The au$ just hit its lowest point since the gfc at 75c US. NOW, I know this works both ways as last year our currency was $1.10 US but at this rate of exchange I would not be expecting too many sales from this part of the world if I were PMDG. I had hoped that I could collect the same stable of PMDG aircraft for P3D as I have for FSX but a man's gotta eat. I do not broach the subject to hold PMDG culpable in any way. It is just the way the system works but for people on fixed incomes these wonderful aircraft are being put further out of reach. Jon Shearer
  17. Ever feel that the FS World is conspiring to ruin your entire day. After years of tweaking, endless payware purchases, a new 6 core based system and other hardware purchases, I go to perform a very simple task ie. drop a couple of .pln files from FSCommander into ASN. Error! Can't parse file. Is there any difference between a .pln file and a .PLN file? Jon
  18. The amount of choice out there for flight simming has never been better. Although, this brings other considerations to the fore. I have FSX, P3D v1.4 and 2.4 as well as x plane 10 global. Throw in il2 sturmovic - cliffs of dover and f16 falcon and you can see all bases are loaded. The decision I have to make is which one do I throw my money at. I fear to even calculate the amount of money I have devoted to fsx over the years and now I will need to do much of it all over again, once I make the decision where to invest my time and cash. I believe fsx is still viable as a very good flightsim but think it is realistic to call it a dead rubber. So no more dough there. P3D v2.4 still has the limitation of being 32 bit program but is much more stable and smoother on my system than fsx. I can but have not yet upgraded to 2.5 due to incompatibility issues for some add ons. X Plane 10 global is an excellent flightsim. It is also 64bit and one would think the decision was a no brainer but I have not got to the stage with it, where it ' floats my boat'. We also get the 'teaser' from LM that the P3D platform will be re-written for 64bit, which I applaud but no guarantees as to the compatibility of existing 32bit add-ons. So, even though we have a plethora of choice, consumers like me are twiddling their thumbs in confusion as to which way to jump. Jon Shearer
  19. Absolutely spectular! We have had a very unsettled week in terms of weather. I have been trying to emulate the dramatic cloud formations and this program comes through with its leg in the air. Jon
  20. Hello! Anyone in Brisbane and Environs. Has anyone noticed the absolutely fantastic Cloud formations, this week? I have been trying to emulate them with ASN, REX4, REX Soft Clouds. The results have been very impressive but even my 6 core system, takes a big hit. I just hope someone else has noticed the dramatic skies. Jon
  21. I think MS switched off the server over a year ago. If you want to go payware, I think all of them are considerably better than the MS weather. Jon
  22. It could be as much as the 777 for all I care. I justify the cost by dividing the number of hours spent, simulating on my computern into the original cost. Whatever it is, it's great and inexpensive entertainment. The more you use it, the cheaper it becomes. Jon Shearer
  23. I am 100% with you that FSX can be a handful and annoying if it doesn't respond to command. I have a reasonable system based on a 6 core intel chip and a 4 gig gtx 680. I was experiencing all kinds of trouble with the sim until I turned off hyperthreading and removed affinity mask from the .cfg file. Global and Global vector from ftx are also on this system. ASNext weather and REX 4 Textures Direct graphics, also. FSX is amazingly smooth and graphically awesome and you should be able to get better performance with your setup. Sometimes my frames drop as low as 25 but it's not noticeable. Perservere. The Golden .CFG file awaits. Jon
  24. Absolutely agree and LOL, btw. I have read every post and now my purchase of FTXG is assured. I just gotta work out what's not going to be paid this month. Good, sensible, informative discussion. Jon
