  1. Stephen - sent you a PM when you have the chance to take a look :)dazz - Nice 5 !What vcore and settings did it take to get there?
  2. Looks like all SB chipsets need updated silicon, and will need to be exchanged ...http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/31/intel-finds-sandy-bridge-chipset-design-flaw-shipments-stopped/http://www.dailytech.com/Intel+Finds+Design+Flaw+in+New+Sandy+Bridge+Chipset/article20789.htm
  3. I have a 2500K on a P8P67 Pro at 4600,had it up to 4800 but didn't like voltages.I have no need for Hyperthreading so might as well save the $100 and get the 2500K model.Be sure to get the K models, so have the option to overclock ,its very easy this time :)The K series is unlocked by Intel made to overclock!Overclocking is very easy on the Asus P67 boards, you can let the board do it allor tinker with a just a few settings and leave the rest on auto.I highly recommend you buy a K chip and at least auto overclock it.The Asus board is picky about memory at 1600, best I got mine so far is 1333,also has some sleep issues.FSX flys very nice with it :)
  4. Stephen - what settings are you using in the bios for that 5GHz run?
  5. Checked a number of TV settings, can change the scaling but does not help .I think the bios is outputting 1024x768 (or 1280x1024) and the HDTV does not support it over HDMI?Intel's P67 MB I think I read has a standard bios resolution, maybe Asus will add that as a option, or 720p or 1080p,A number of people are having this issue.Workaround, the set has a PC VGA input that I can use to see the full screen then change cables back to hdmi.Other than that the board has not been not too bad, took some bios changes to get my SSD to show as a boot drive, and I seem to get random black screens at times rebooting.Overclocking looks promising, waiting for my cooler but on the stock 2500K cooler, had 4GHz at stock voltage. Only a multiplier change done within windows, didnt try any higher.
  6. Looks like the P8P67 Pro has a new higher resolution bios screen.Sounds great but the bottom and right side are cut off on my display.I use a HDTV monitor and the full bios screen is not visible, probably the mode its outputting is not compatible with the monitor?Anyone know the resolution of the new bios screen...
  7. Based on reading user reports on the web it does seem almost all 2500K and 2600K will hit at least 4.5GHz,I'd be surprised if only 50% do.With the 2500K and Intel MB under $400 total it's hard to resist.
  8. Congrats Alex ! After you used FSX a bit love to hear your impressions.Guess my biggest question is, I know SB at 4.6+ will offer better framerates, but does it help with FSX's core stuttering issues or is that just due to the program itself? What are you seeing in turns or pans in dense areas?
  9. The percentages in the Asus post are not clear...Is it 50% of chips go to at least 4.5 and the other 50% do not,or50% are limited to 4.5 and the other 50% can go higher?
  10. Yes that's the one, also the 2500K . The K is key as it means it's an unlocked chip with the right motherboard. Both are being over clocked from 4 to 4.5 Ghz or more with little effort on H67 motherboards.Pair that with decent video card and FSX is as good as it gets.
  11. If your considering a Sandy Bridge CPU,a rep from ASUS made a very informative post after testing 100 CPU's...http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=265398
  12. Been unable to find my Acceleration box.It has the needed product key inside to activate.Anyway to recover that Acceleration product key from my existing install ?Update - found it !
  13. I'm reinstalling FSX Acc from scratch and trying to decide to go just with OrbX PNW and related packages,or do the GEX, UTX, mesh, SceneryTech install,or maybe some combo of all...I just fly 99% of the time in Western Canada, AB and BC.Looking at screenshots of Banff and Hope B.C I feel GEX, UTX, mesh and SceneryTech LC may result in a more detailed looking environment. It seems peaks have more detail, more rock texturesbut the combo is a hassle to install and tweak to work together at least it was a couple years ago.OrbX PNW on the other hand is a all in one an easy install. In mountain areas I find its mesh or textures somewhat lacking?Any comments on the above...
  14. What MB and CPU do you have? Here's a link that I found useful, its for the last gen chips, the new Sandy Bridge ones 2500K, 2600K, etc would be different.http://www.techreaction.net/2010/09/07/3-step-overclocking-guide-bloomfield-and-gulftown/3/
  15. Thanks.Does sleep work correctly when overclocked, it never did on my evga x58 ?What did you change in the bios just the multiplier and cpu and ram voltage ?Any comment on micro stutters in FSX vs the old setup?
  16. I went back to 197.45 as well, noticed more stutters in turns with the update on a gtx280.What card are you using Mitch ?What specifically are you seeing that is clearly better, as 197.45 on Win7 64 works very well with bp=0 and unlimited frames?
  17. I use a 32" Panasonic HDTV as my PC monitor, just love it.Only wish I had tried the 37" model at the time.I think 40" would be too big, for web use etc, but 37" might be workable :)
  18. Tune FSX that's the key, you have a great system!I did the following:Fresh install of FSX and PNW on Win7 64 with latest drivers using an Intel SSDSet FSX to unlimited frames, and used the external frame rate limiter at 30fpsSet affinity to 14Use bufferpools = 0Autogen dense, other settings mostly maxed, water High 2x, AI 20% all typesThose few changes gave a 30% minimum framerate increase over my older settings. The old days of endless defragging, nhancer settings, multiple cfg tweaks and addon tweaks, etc are gone :)
  19. Too bad a special monitor is needed too ...
  20. Something that is not mentioned too often, is the 480 has a smaller 384bit memory bus, vs the 512bit bus on the 280/285.In the past a wider memory bus proved best for FSX, Phil Taylor had a article to that effect back in 2008 :http://blogs.msdn.com/ptaylor/archive/2008...d-consumer.aspx
  21. I'd venture the Mods here see a lot more than most of usand have a better sense for threads about to degrade. Maybe it's better they 'seem to' overreact on occasions than be too liberal in judgmentand let the immature nonsense that is posted at times develop.I've felt threads are being locked quickly lately too,and it can seem arbitrary when some hardware posts are left in the main forum and others are not. I'm wondering if at best, a mod should have a very low profile, with very little activity on the forum other than moderation,so they draw little attention and personal opinion from others. If someone really enjoys interacting on a forum and posting opinionsmaybe they are best being a member? In any case I'm glad someone is moderating here!
  22. It's not the 90mb, it's wondering if Java runs background processes all the time, puts an notification icon with pop up messages about updates etc.?
  23. Might backup and try it, was hoping to keep this to install clean.Java is a pretty big install?Does it allow you to run unlimited , get the frame rate gains without glitches?
