  1. Just a follow up after a couple days of trying 2 gtx280's in SLI, with bp=0 and unlimited frames in FSX with very high settings. It's starts off great but after continuous flying for a hour or longer in complex PNW areasaround Vancouver and into the mountains at Hope BCthe glitches started appearing again. Spikes, etc.An hour of continuous flight is better than the immediate glitches seen with a single card and Bojote's settings. Most of the time my flights are shorter than an hour but its not a perfect solution.Other solutions as many post are to lock framerate in FSX, or not use BP=0, or lower FSX settings.Of course all those work with a single GPU as well.Locking the framerate in FSX solves the glitches. It also appears to lower the overall frame rate and most importantly lower the minimum frame rate seen. When it starts dropping in the low and mid teens I'm motivated to make changes.I fly mostly in PNW complex areas would like to keep the minimum frame rate over 20.Vancouver can tax the frame rate pretty hard when settings are high, AI is up and airports are in the view. One way to counter that is BP=0, unlimited frames and SLI,but as flight time increases issues arise as well, it's not the holy grail, at least not in my setup :(
  2. steveo38 mentioned that SLI solved his graphics glitches that bp=0 with unimited frames had caused.I added a 2nd 280 and it works very well , glitches, spikes. flashing textures gone. Also noticed a decent fps increase over running with a single card and a framerate lockwin7 64 latest video drivers 4ghz 1920x1080Thanks to steveo38 and bojote .
  3. Turned off the BP=0 tweak , locked frames at 30 with vsync, all is well now with PNW and standard FSX areas.
  4. Thanks Bob, all you said held true with my setup. If I end up locking at 30 within FSX with vsync on, and I need to turn water to 2x high to minimize flashing, seems a similar result to where I use to get without BP=0.What tweak setup are you using? BP=0 or other, FSX to limit or unlimited/FPS limiter, how did adding a 480 change things for you?
  5. Thanks for the reply and all your efforts here .Sorry I'm still not clear, are you saying I should use FSX to limit the frames to 25 or 30 and not use unlimited frames in the sim?I was under the impression that using Unlimited in FSX with no vsync was one of the suggested tweaks.Having vsync off works fine as long as I used unlimited frames in FSX.When I use FSX to lock the frames at 30, it solves the PNW glitches, but then the lack of vsync shows its issues?
  6. Background:Did a fresh install of Win7 x64 and FSX Accel. Updated FSX.CFG with Bojote's tweaks as summarized by David. Thanks for all the work guys!Noticed unlimited frame rate and UsePools=0 worked great in NY City.Amazing framerate and smooth with very dense autogenIssue:Impressed, so then I installed PNW and tried a flight in the mountains.OH NO... black screens pauses, flashing white ground textures, flashing spikes from ground to sky, when panning, turning etc.....Any suggestions would be great, my system specs are below.Read the threads and seen spikes mentioned a few times but not a clear solution, some say they gave up on UsePools=0, others set a FSX framerate limit, or used an external limiter, others say a gtx480 is needed?Whats the Bojote recommended solution here, love to solve it as PNW looks amazing and my frame rate was in the 70's ?I hope its not a gtx480, thrown enough money at FSX over the years, but if that is a proven winner just might try one,but hoping for a cheaper solution :)System: i7 920 @3.8GHz 6GB Ram GTX280Software: Fresh install of Win7 x64, latest nVidia drivers, FSX Accel and PNW only.FSX.CFG Tweaks:[bufferPools]UsePools=0[GRAPHICS]HIGHMEMFIX=1 [JOBSCHEDULER]AffinityMask=14....
  7. Thanks for the links .I am hoping for comments screenshotsthat compare PNW to Vancouver+ GEX UTXfor Vancouver+ areas.Example: Hope B.C., can someone with PNW post a few shots over Hope?
  8. Can those with Vancouver Plus, GEX and UTX post some screenshots / commentscomparing that setup to PNW, I started a thread for it ...Also comments about if you needed to uninstall VAncouver Plus to fly PNW in the Vancouver Plus areas...http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=277678
  9. Wondering if its worth buying PNW if one already owns Vancouver Plus, Victoria Plus and GEX and UTXas far as flying in those areas only?Love to see screenshots/comments comparingPNW to Vancouver Plus, Victoria Plus and GEX and UTX...
  10. Works great on my XP install. On the Win7 install same PC its poor.Just like one would expect from FSX :)
  11. It's formatted. Something that it seems is no longer taught in schools :)Poetry not sure, it may offer some rhythm and rhetoric.
  12. An observation with Orbx and PNW is the bar is much higher this time...AU was probably one of the worst default locations for out of the box FSX,so when local users seen the changes made, it was stunning indeed. But much of the current PNW area most of us fly today with common addons, thanks to Holger's great free and payware products, GEX , and UTX looks excellent already. The Orbx forum does get a little over the top with endless praises every time a screen shot is posted. Many of the shots are zoomed out to 30% and heavy with clouds and lighting effects. What I have seen is fine, in some the trees dont seem to blend well, but is it really that different from using the products above?Anyhow, I'm looking forward to PNW since its one of Holger's products. He has given so much for free to the community over the yearswe should all reward his payware efforts in return. I'm curious to see how flights from Victoria to Vancouver to Hope, etc will compare to the already great renderings I see now.
  13. Another opinion...This tweak works or certainly does not hurt.Flying over NYC locked at 30fps with smooth pans.I don't recall it being that smooth before.i7 @ 3.8GHz , GTX280 , XP32.
  14. This is getting interesting.... prices posted, specific details from orbx.Loved the FTX demo, but have no interest in AU flying, been waiting on PNW.Are we looking at having this installed for holidays?
  15. I prefer flying in known areas thus the FTX approach works well.Holger, now involved with FTX , has been perfecting smaller areas for a long timeand I've never been disappointed with his offerings, free or paid.I like his specific area, detailed approach over the 1 size fits all method.Too many general addon's combined seem to add up to headaches and endless tweaking.Instead now when I reinstall I just add packages like Vancouver+, Victoria+, Tongass Fjords X and local photoreal and fly.I also enjoy taking screenshots while flying. Screenshots from the new GEX Europe approach to textures just look off to me compared to FTX or even the original GEX US/Canada approach.Just personal preference I guess. So I'm eagerly waiting on FTX PNW and will stick flying close to home :)
  16. Always like your work Nick, this time the screen shots being posted look somewhat unusual?Maybe in flight things look better as many seem to like the new approach. But the still screen shots seem over sharpened, unnatural , not sure how to explain.Just wondering?Example:http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/show...p;postcount=107
  17. Is there really much of a high end card market anymore anyways?Everyone seems to talk of console gaming titles. I suspected the PC gaming market is all but over and out,due to low cost consoles offering decent performance without all the PC piracy, and high costing PC hardware needs.I'm only wondering ?
  18. The lo-fi version of this forum seems fine, when the other one is acting up....http://forums1.avsim.net/lofiversion/index.php/f121.html
  19. Here's a graph of Flight Simulator X interest on Google :http://www.google.com/trends?q=flight+simu...=all&sort=0
  20. Nothing wrong with your selections but just few suggestions that may give FSX a boost...Intel motherboards do not allow for overclocking, where as the eVGA x58 or Asus P6T do.You might consider upgrading to a eVGA GTX275 896MB card.Prices are similar consider a RAM upgrade to 1600. Many feel FSX runs best with i7's clocked at 3.6GHz + using a GTX275 or 285.
  21. Focusing away for a moment from those taking the software...Much of the problem is here:1) The PC is not a secure device2) Google returns 100x more links to torrent sites than vendor sites for a given title3) ISPs allow torrent traffic, when close to 100% of it is violating copyrightEvery option has been tried to make PC software secure and hackers beat it.Most efforts just end up annoying paying customers. If Google and ISPs dealt with the torrent issue much of the problem would be solved.Focus on paying customers on your website. Offer incentives like forum access, updates, repaints, add ons.If that can not turn a decent profit then its just not worth developing on the PC.
  22. The Flight Sim world is getting stranger and stranger. Why does Google return the torrent links in the first place, does a information kiosk at a mall tell shoppers where to shop lift?
  23. After following the x58 eVGA forum for some time,I've not noticed any major difference from the i7 tiersas far as overclock potential, vcore needed or temps.Quick way to drop temps on all i7's is to turn HT off.FSX does not really push the temps in any case, compared to CPU stress testing tools. It seems a 920 DO will give you as much chance for 4Ghz as the others.Lots of people on the eVGA x58 forum to ready to help with settings too,I think ASUS has support forums as well.Paired with a decent CPU cooler, MB and Ram most 920 owners end up pleased :)
  24. The Intel sSpec you mention SLBEJ is the identifier for the current 920 chips being made, also known by the D0 stepping code.http://processorfinder.intel.com/List.aspx...&SearchKey=In general they are reported to overclock often with lower voltage requirements than the original C0 stepping. That's not to take away from C0 920's that also overclock very well :)C0 920's usually hit 3.8 to 4.0 GHz with little effort and under 1.375 'with droop' vcore.D0 920's are being reported to hit up to 4.2Ghz with similar small effort similar or lower vcore. In the end it comes down you the specific chip you own and your MB.Don't expect to hit 4.5Ghz with any i7 except using extreme settings. If I was buying new I'd buy a new 920 SLBEJ D0 stepping and overclock it.I see no reason to spend the extra money on a 975 or 950as if your overclocking your end result will be the same...Just luck of the draw, it will depend on the particular chip and MB you buy.My original 920 has been running at 4Ghz since day 1 on a eVGA x58, with only 3 key bios changes needed:Turbo ON (21x Mult)bClk = 191vCore 1.375Turning off HT in any i7 will allow for lower temps or higher clocks,as far as FSX is concerned it might as well be off too.
