  1. It's been reported by many that ATI cards run slow when 3D clouds are used in FSX.Try setting weather to clear and see if thats your issue.
  2. This story takes piracy to new highs, read it in the link below. Here's a summary:An user browses a torrent sight looking for new FS software, not to download but to see what is new.He sees the L39 and goes to the developers web site.Likes what he sees and goes to a local store and buys a professional packaged boxed copy.Problem is the software just came one and no boxed copies exist.Someone has produced a printed box / installer for the warez and is selling the software before the developer or publisher has!You can see it unfold at LotusSimhttp://www.lotussim.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=70
  3. Great plane indeed! One small suggestion / question would it be possible to make the LED warnings more readable? Here's a 100% crop of a screenshot with zoom at 0.70 , I find I have to zoom to almost 1.90 to make the text out with my old eyes ;)
  4. For some reason on this MS FSX Forum,I can only view the front (1st) page of posts, the numbered icons are missing to go back to older posts, yet they are seen on other forums here like the FS9 one.Anyone else?
  5. I think its a silly thing for them to do online. Will not change anything and just annoys paying customers. It takes OrbX's reputation down in my eyes.Piracy is big problem with PC's, and its rampant with Flight Sim software.I hate to see it, but its a sad fact.If it's got so bad just shut down and be done with it,why bother with this tactic, those stealing will not change.I like Aerosoft's recent comments on FSBreak much more, they seem to accept reality but feel they can succeed all the same.I wish someone could solve it and make the stuff securebut it seems to be a losing battle.I was looking forward to OrbX PNW it seems of late to be a renewed interest in FSX software.Paying customers are doing OrbX the favor not the reverse. Some actions by developers in FS industry recently are even more bizzare than this :)
  6. I think your lowest rates are combo of add ons, settings, hardwareand where you are flying.Hardware:ATI Video cards can offer great frame ratesbut are impacted by 3D clouds as I recall.Test it by turning off all weather, and see if that helps, if so, you can decide if an nVidia card is worth the cost to allow better flight in weather.CPU speed, you have a nice setup but as the poster said above FSX excels with CPU's clocked higher and higher, say at 3.8GHz or more.Since you have a branded (Gateway) PC, you may or may not be able to over clock it.You would have to look in your bios first to see if its possible. If so and you decide to venture to the overclocking route, you would need a 3rd party CPU cooler too.If the bios does not allow overclocking then you would need to replace the motherboard to one that does.Addons:How does your framerate compare around KSFO with a c172 vs the big addon jet? Some areas and addons just over tax even the best setups,Tokyo is another example.Settings:Take a read of the suggested settings in the Vancouver Plus FSX manual, p 22-23http://www.fsaddon.com/download_files/Vanc...olor_Manual.pdfHolger and his team make some very useful points, in addition to Nicks great guides.Ever consider being a bush pilot instead :)Most systems are fine with the great Tongass X addon using bush type planes. In the end, FSX settings that work in one area just will not in another.FSX with a default c172 can run at 30 fps locked in 95% of the time, but change to a big addon jet and try to land in some major cities and your rates will drop significantly.Good luck !
  7. Just a quick post to mention to anyone that's been running a large tweaked FSX install on Win 7 RC,if you don't want to do a clean install for Win 7 RTM and FSX right away, you can use the cversion.ini change to allow for an in place upgrade.I did one yesterday and it upgraded fine.Only had to reinstall the 182.50 video driver and a jMicron esata driver. All programs, addons, etc., work so far as expected, no reactivation of FSX needed either.Update instructions : http://blogs.msdn.com/e7/archive/2009/04/0...experience.aspxI'm sure a clean install is best when I have the time and motivationbut when I started making a list of everything for FSX I neededto install and tweak, I decided a in place upgrade would do for now :)
  8. How ? What OS?It looks like its disabled by default in Windows 7, I just opened a text file and the last accessed date did not change in file properties....Thanks.
  9. Also reported on the eVGA x58 forum by a number of people.Usually turns out to be a bad stick of ram, bad slot or one that is not seated well.I had the issue and a reseat solved it here.I dont remember hearing of this issue near as much with core duo builds...
  10. Looks great!Would be nice to add the other suggested setting controls to a single utility too, as opposed to separate utilities .
  11. Great plane the rain , ice and lighting effects make it very fun to fly. Also it handles well , I found the MS F18 too sensitive but this L39 is just right.Would be nice to have a after burner version with auto pilot too, and a lower stall speed.I know that's not L39 realistic but a version with those features would be great IMO.Another suggestion would be higher resolution warning LED messages,I find they are pretty much unreadable in the normal sitting position at 60% zoom? One glitch I had, is I lost interaction in the VC after a while, cursor stayed as an arrow instead of a hand grip, not sure if that was the plane or FSX acting up.Might have been switching back and forth to the manual when it happened.Overall a very nice addon. Nice work!
  12. Thanks for the explanation.Sorry to hear its a known issue, never seen it until I installed the photo real tiles over the city.
  13. You explained it much better than I did, tha'ts my issue too, exactly.
  14. Here's a level headed look at the concern...http://blogs.zdnet.com/Bott/?p=1235
  15. Interesting but seems over hyped?Running chkdsk /r on a non-os disk causing a memory leak is a RTM show stopper?I'd think a simple windows update at installation time will correct it?
  16. Anyone have any thoughts on an issue where buildings at an airport disappear and reappear depending on the planes position.I run into this at an airport in a city that I use homemade photo real scenery with?
  17. I'm inclined to agree with you Craig, overclocking a 920 was just a matter of 2-3 bios changes for 4GHz here. But I'm sure the 975's are nice too :)Be interesting to compare full resolution screen shots between systems with similar settings at specific places.I think a tuned 920 system would equal a turned 975 but I'd love to be proved wrong?Even if the 975 hits 4.2+ vs 4+ on a 920 I'm not convinced you would see any difference with FSX,in complex areas with high traffic on FSX seems to need 8GHz + :)
  18. 1) Is the exe.xml file used by any other programs that may have also been effected?2) Where is it located?
  19. The utility works fine, but I found I have to also modify a some .cfg files that are not under the main FSX dir to allow some addons to work and scenery to be found.Has anyone ever made a list of those files and locations as they differ from XP to newer OSes and also are often duplicated on the PC?
  20. Love to see them compared with reasonable settings that produce a 30fps average and little stuttering, also with a 4650 included since Aerosoft claimed its the best for FSX :)
  21. I'm running Win 7 RC x64 had the crash.Seems to be fixed by just copying my Vista x64 c:\windows\System32\UIAutomationCore.dll to the Win 7 x64 main FSX dir C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator XAt least it has not crashed since I made the file copy,I did not need to register it or copy it anywhere other than the FSX dir?AS per:http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums...26-f2ed6fbeae97
  22. Sounds like a Windows 7 addon scenery issue. With Win7 when it takes you in error to the sub dir just click in the white space and it will add the scenery.
  23. Mathijs Kok of Aerosoft was interviewed by http://fsbreak.com/ , it's a great interview, have a listen when you can.Of note, many were surprised when he mentioned the BEST video cards for FSX are the older ones due to timing issues, and the new ones are SLOWER.If I heard correctly, he said the best of all is just a $79 card.A quick look on the Aerosoft forum revealed the card he was talking about was a ATI 4650 !Anyone here compared it to say a GTX280/285 using NickN's suggested settings?
  24. Thanks for the tip on the interview, very interesting. The (best for FSX) video card he was talking about is the very low priced ATI 4650 of all cards!I can't imagine how it could compare to a GTX280 or GTX285 using NickN's suggested nHancer settings in variety of weather at 1920x1080 + in FSX .Does it?( Don't want to get this thread off topic so I started a new one in the Video Cards section )http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=254821
  25. Whats the lat and long where you took the shot ?
