  1. Not only was PC Aviator less than transparent with the sale to their subscribers they were also doling out free future issues as recompense to customers with out explaining that they had no way to honor them. Probably why the new owners are balking at honoring the legal subscriptions and trying to trick the base into re-subscribing. I've stopped doing any business with either of these companies as they have taken the community for granted and whether through incompetence or arrogance, display sleaze at it's best. And it's a pity.
  2. Dear Francois, I'm sadened but not surprised. Despite your noble efforts probably best you got out of that cluster f*ck of an operation. I will be surprised if we see the next issue. Keep 'em flyin', Clayton
  3. Yes it's originally older than the others, so what? Flight1 took over from the MIA developers, did some front end work. It's also a about style and marketing. FEX is highly customizable and appears to me to be softer and more realistic in most cases than the super hyper sharp edged REX. Having said that, most seem to love REX but I have seen no compelling reason to switch and if you have REX probably no compelling reason to switch either.
  4. Just to be clear, Aerosoft sells both boxed and download versions as they do with most addons.
  5. Mega Airport Vienna (Fly Tampa) and Approaching Innsbruck X work just fine with GEX/UTX.
  6. Or Samurai Flight Sim 2. But, as nudata commented, Lockheed-Martin have picked up the ball with Prepar3d. And LM knows a thing or two about aircraft and simulation. Also most of the serious FSX developers have P3D versions now...some at no extra charge. So, it's alive! I've installed it on my system, side by side with FSX and am slowly adding in the addons as I get the time. I hope you give it a try. regards,
  7. Yes. Here's what I did: Just install it on the networked "client" system. When you run it it will go through the activation process. When all is ok you can then remove it from the FSX (server) computer. Just remember to set up simconnect and share the required FSX folders and you should be good to go.Cheers,
  8. It's called data access...you could look it up; and the data bus is another topic altogether. Anyway my intention is not to debate individual theories but rather to suggest UltimateDefrag as a way to help people struggling with getting FSX to increase performance... as it has for me and my system. Believe what you want to believe. It's just a suggestion.Clay
  9. Hi Ryan,What you say is interesting and I will attempt to get an impartial opinion. But I won't abandon a new program that appears to be working fantastically based on a white paper written by a company that has a vested interest in the outcome.PerfectDisk is an excellent defrag for what it is designed for. I will just reiterate that FSX runs faster after I use UltimateDefrag.Until then all I can tell you as a user of PerfectDisk for 3 years is that I've been using UltimateDefrag for over a month now and so far have experienced no problems whatsoever. In fact the read speed is faster than ever as measured by PC Pitsop. Its possible people were using a beta as the 1st full release just came out about a week ago. Also it is a bit more complicated to set up properly. Anyway, they have a free trial so...thanks for the heads up and I'll post back if anything weird happens.Clay
  10. Thanks for the Great guide. I have a suggestion regarding defrag. After install of FSX on my system:3.2GB HT P42GB 533MHz DDR2Radeon X1900 AIW (256MB)Windows XP Pro SP2The disappointment with stuttering and freeze frame was palpable and I was glad I did not uninstall FS9. I too have been a big fan of PerfectDisk for the last 3 years however, its inability to place files specifically has been a limitation for me. I recently have been awed by the abilities of a brand new utility called UltimateDefrag from DiskTrix. In fact it is specifically designed to get the absolute best performance possible from your HDD for FSX/FS9 etc. Initially its not as set and forget as the others you mention but wow what a difference it made. After placing my FSX files at the outer (faster) part of my disk I can run FSX with no problem.. with all the default setting which on my system are high with the exception of aircraft which is ultrahigh!Looks fantastic and my frame rates are back up around 18-22.
