  1. Thanks for the response. I understand since FSX is DX10 preview and not fully implemented :( That being said, I see much better performance in DX10 than in DX9, particularly in heavy weather/low visablity conditions. However, I did find a work around. I copied the glass file from the C310, C310_Glass.dds, and pasted it into the Baron texture folder. I backed up the original texture, glass.dds then renamed the C310_Glass.dds to glass.dds. I now have shine in DX10, although it has a heavy tint to it I can fix that in an editor I think. I really don't know what the difference is between the two files, all I can tell is one seems to be alot smaller than the other when I open it in DXT/BMP. I'm not sure what the glass_g and glass_t are for. Maybe mess with these to see what they do Thanks, Larry pic
  2. Hi all, noticed an issue with the B55-E55 in DX10 mode. I do not have any reflections in the windows. No shine, no nothing except a tint. They are there when in DX9 mode. The C310 has reflections in DX9 and DX10. Does anyone else see this issue? Maybe someone has some thoughts on whether it's an easy fix I could do myself? example pics: C310 in DX10 mode Baron in DX9 mode Baron in DX10 mode Thanks, Larry
  3. Thanks guys for the opinions....I am running 64 bit Umbutu, I believe its the latest version but I would need to check. My hardware is fairly standard, first system in my sig.So what am I missing with the installation? I keep hearing things about terminals and such...how would I go about installing xplane to umbutuThanks !
  4. Hello all,I'm a Win 7 64 bit user. I have Ubutu Linux installed on a seperate partition but have not played with it much..So, on to my question..any performance advantages from wiin 7 to linux? Is one quicker than the other?I would like to try XPX on Linux, but to be honest, I don't know anything about linux and have no idea how to go about getting the exe to install :( LOL..If someone could drop a hint on how to get the program to install, I'd appreciate it :( tried the usual win double click but no joy. Thanks
  5. OK, don't ask me why, but...woke up to go to work, and this thought pops in my head out of nowhere. Not hard as my wife always tells me that what lies between my ears is litterally "nowhere" :Just Kidding:Flight--designed for the masses? Brings new people into a sort of sim (I'm guessing, Flight has not been released yet)P3D-- MS sells the code for FSX, P3D team developes it further, tweaks the code etc for commercial use only.P3D guy says-- "hey" lets market this to the people on the sim forums. We don't need to sell it to them, we will lease it affordably. Other P3D guy says--...hmmm, I wonder how MS will feel about that? 1st P3D guys says,-- "lets ask"Emails are sent, MS thinks about it's response...MS guy-- ok, we all know when Flight is released, the "hardcore" sim crowd is going to go bananas...lets talk about P3D. If we allow it as they ask, sort of turn a blind eye towards it, would it maybe take some of the sting away? MS guy # 2-- I don't know, they are a pretty hardcore bunch and have been looking for Flight as a replacement to FSX.MS guy-- Yea, but this subscription model interests me...you know the higher ups LOVE the subscription model. If P3D becomes the defacto replacement for FSX, will it sell?MS guy # 2-- hmmm, well, if we let P3D deal with it, it's no cost to us for this "trial balloon" so to speak. If we can get them to share their subscription database, we could look at this as a viable option in the future "if it sells". MS guy-- how will this affect Flight sales?MS # 2-- could go either way..but there is always the "nukem option" :(MS guy-- yea...if it works, we buy out P3D for the non- commerial user and market it as FS Next!! A logical step up from Flight !!New email from MS--You have green light for your subscription and flight sim hobbiest activities...lets keep it low key though...no blaring ads...keep it to the forums..oh yeah, all we ask in return is you share your subscription database...we are only interested in the number of subscribers and your guestimate on how many are actual developers and how many are hobbiest end users..P3D-- you got it !!Ok, like I said, this popped in my head for no reason...actually scared me LOL...I stayed away from these forms for a full day :( Couple of caveats--- this assumes Flight is what appears to be an entry level sort of sim...I don't know and I'm willing to wait and see.And I have NO insider info...I'm a nobody and all this is just conjecture (and perhaps wishful thinking :( )
  6. Here you go..http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231461Gskill Snypers.. these are ultra low voltage. 1.25 volts. 2500-2600's do not like higher voltages in the ram.I had first Corsair, then OCZ...these Snypers have been rock solid and I never looked back :)
  7. Well, for what its worth:If there is no PMDG, Realair, Carenado etc developed content, I won't bother buying anything at all.I will download it, try it then it will sit on my harddrive.MS 's big MISTAKE IS they can't make a plane like these guys ...period. It would take YEARS for them to learn to do anything like PMDG and it's NGX. No offense to the Flight team, it's just a matter of experience. Yes, they could make a pretty model, but I think that would be pretty much it. Our favorite developers have been doing this a long time. The Flight team has an Icon and a Stearman. Both look 'pretty" but after watching some of the vids, I'm kinda thinking they don't fly like the real sims do. I'll wait until it's released to make a final decision on it's flight modeling.
  8. What I don't understand is why create Flight in the first place? If they new how simmers would feel about this, they new we would probably not buy into it and the hardcore amoung us would trash it to high heaven. Maybe a bit unfair as we have not even tried it ...but bad publicity is bad publicity. Lets face it, if Flight turns out to be what we all fear it is...anyone coming here to learn about simming will be instantly told to ditch Flight and get a real sim.Where is all the money in games being made? Consoles mostly. What type of games? Shooters mostly, MW3, BF3 etc. I'm stumped as to why they would even bother with a "flying game" that does not even shoot... :( Even putting Flight on Xbox Live for free would not get it much farther than on the PC...Lets face it, the younger crowd wants to blow stuff up, being 48 myself..I still break out Company of Heroes sometimes on the weekends :LMAO:How many "casual players" will actually buy Flight addons? Casual seems to me by definition...well...casual ..they don't get "into" the game, sim whatever. They play for an hour then move on...Another stumper is why invite Avsim and all the rest to their conference or whatever it was called.... Were they actually thinking this would get their blessings? I've yet to see anything positive about Flight from any of the major sites. It's mostly descriptions of what Flight is...and thats it :( Some go farther...and I'll leave it at that :(
  9. Here's a quote from Tom and some other general ramblings :)"I said it earlier and am not sure that it might of slipped by un-noticed...Freeware won't exist in FLIGHT as far as I can tell. Also, I would venture to guess that liveries, such as United, BA, Lufthanza, etc. will have gone the way of the dodo. MS won't want to sign up for licensing, and won't assume the liability of accepting unlicensed a/c from others. "As Tom mentions here,, I was also wondering how many missed his comment quoted above and what your opinions are?I'm a long time MS sim flyer, started with FS98---> all the way FSX. Bought everyone and a boatload of addons. So, my point?Did we all start buying add-ons right away? I would venture to say none of us did :)I think most of us started with "freeware". That great stuff hosted by Avsim and others, made by people who loved to do it not for profit, but because of the love of doing it.So my Sim experience model goes like this :)Buy FS whatever, get interestedSee Avsim forums, cool people and all this awesome freewareinstall and play freeware, yap on forums etcWant more, more more....move into payware.... slowly... but still use alot of freeware..Kind of a progression we all started with I think. Could be wrong:)So what has Flight done to this model? Pretty much trashed it I think. So and So goes to install his free Flight game, Flys around Hawaii a bit but gets bored.2 things can happen, he either shelves it because he can't blow stuff up or he takes an interest in it and wants more. When we all wanted more, we found this here Avsim place, lots of free stuff, lots of cool people willing to help. With Flight, he "may" come here for help, but if he wants a shiny new Cessna, well he has to go to the MS store and buy it. No progression from free to pay, he has to spend cash right out of the gate. Will that shy people away from Flight?Of course the help he gets maybe "get that thing off your harddrive and go buy FSX " :)So, here's our guy, watching all of us flying in our Boeings, Airbus's, Cessnas both freeware and payware. What happens next?Just wondering if MS thought this through "completely".Who buys addons for FS? Hardcore simmers for the most part. Be it GA or Heavies or anything in between.Does Flight "at this time" appear to be aimed at hardcore simmers? Not in my humble opinion, I forsee most of us trying it, then shelving it for "insert your sim of preference".Will little Billy or Betty have an interest in flying with out blowing something up? Sadly, I think not. Such is the world we live in. So how much will they buy from the MS store?Maybe dad will say, "hey" , neither of you are using it, I'll try it :). Of course, if he gets into as I and many others have, and he will go buy FSX, X-Plane etc. :) without limits imposed on Flight by MS. In FSX, FS9 etc "We fly the WHOLE WORLD" Why would he settle for less from a "newer game"? If MS were to make a deal with, say, PMDG, how would PMDG hope to sell anything like we have now? Not only do we have to buy the plane, but, I would think more scenery as well to make the plane worth flying? What are your thoughts with the death of freeware for Flight?Ok, I'm tired, typing in the dark, etc.. Just rambling :) Although we have "some" info, it's not complete so I reserve judgement on Flight for a while.
  10. Just an update:1st two downloads, used the direct links3rd try, used torrentsno differenceUsed Updater, downloaded approx 49 megs, updated it, then asked to run. Same thing, just locks up at the load screenSeems to hang at "will init world render"There is no crash fileThere is nothing in the preference folders.Tried running in Vista compat mode no change.I have no issues with XP 9, FS9, FSX, and a slew of other sims and games.I'm at a loss, as much as I want this to work, I think I'll have to shelve it as it's driving me batty Larry
  11. @ TedYou almost made me choke when you mentioned my card wasn't enough LOL I checked the link you supplied.Geforce 4 refers to the original Geforce 4 series of cards released around 2002. Ex Ti 4200, 4600 etcReading further down, it mentions "GeForce 4nn, 5nn" mine would be in the 4nn category, ie GTX470You scared the bejesus out of me Larry
  12. I have the same issue. It just hangs at the load screen. I'm only using one monitor. No Eyefinity, TH2Go etc.Tried using all the usual fixes, disable desk top comp, run as administrator etc. Tried installing to another location as well, no joy.Error thrown by windows when it stops responding.Description:A problem caused this program to stop interacting with Windows.Problem signature:Problem Event Name: AppHangB1Application Name: X-Plane.exeApplication Version: 10.0.1.4Application Timestamp: 4ecd64bcHang Signature: 1627Hang Type: 0OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3Locale ID: 1033Additional Hang Signature 1: 162771e74e6ad1ca5516762a09d5de95Additional Hang Signature 2: d907Additional Hang Signature 3: d90712ca23c907b8d65b51a9d5af4e53Additional Hang Signature 4: 1627Additional Hang Signature 5: 162771e74e6ad1ca5516762a09d5de95Additional Hang Signature 6: d907Additional Hang Signature 7: d90712ca23c907b8d65b51a9d5af4e53
  13. No Problem Mat. sux? Proper spelling is "sucks" and this program does not "sucks" it "injects"
  14. Shade comes with 2 exe's basically. One is Shade exe. whick will start FSX. The other is Shade NL. NL does not start FSX. It loads shade then waits for you to start FSX. I use it with frame rate limiter this way, no issues at all.
  15. I'm going to try both, Flight and XP10. I have XP 9 now, always put it on my system after a rebuild but it just doesn't get nearly the usage that FS9 and FSX get. I like both the heavy iron and GA, and although XP9 GA looks pretty good, there is nothing to really fly in the heavy type stuff, ie PMDG level. If I'm not mistaken, X-plane is Open GL, not Direct X?? Correct me if I'm wrong :) but I can't see Austin using it, he's a MAC guy :)
  16. Tune up also makes back ups of before it does anything. including cleaning and defragging the registry. Don't use the defrag option on fsx pc, got O and O defrag for that. Only the laptop. Didn't pay 50, only 30. Get on their mailing list. Always get a sale :) Plus they have great support there. Main reason I pay for something like this. I have tried CCcleaner. Found it does not do as good a job cleaning the system as Tune up. Free demo on their site for anyone interested.
  17. I've been using Tune up Utilities since 2008 and it's a great program. I have never had an issue with it. It "can" do things automatically but thats just an option. It can do everything CC cleaner can do, plus it will defrag your drive if you want amoung many other things. It is spyware/adware free.I have it on both my desktop and laptop. Laptop I let Tuneup run on auto, desktop (FS pc) I do things manually. I'd suggest going to the website and reading about it. http://www.tune-up.c...CFUXf4Aod6zT57g Just another opinion :)
  18. I'm the farthest thing from you a pro you can get but heres a quick lesson :) VNAV= vertical navigation. Pressing this will cause the autopilot to fly the flightlevel you have programmed into the fmc LNAV= lateral navigation. This button will cause the autopilot to fly the route you have programmed into the fmc. It will follow the track you see sort of like the gps. Auto throttle: Is what it sounds like :) it arms the autothrottle.Using VNAV, it will follow the speeds you have programmed. Using the speed select button (spd) , it will follow that speed you have set. SPD button: this will allow the autothrottle to set the speed you have set on the MCP (not in FMC VNAV). EPR: not sure what it is, but I was told to press this at takeoff after turning on the flight director and auto throttle and moving the throttles forward. HOLD: 2 buttons, 1 tells the autopilot to hold the selected heading. It's by the heading select knob, the other is altitude hold, underneath the altitude knob on the MCP. It tells autopilot to hold current altitude. FLCH: Flight Level Change, you can set an altitude in the MCP, higher or lower, press this button and the autopilot will go the set altitude. CMD: There a 3 of them. THe center one is what you use for normal flight. The ones on the left and right are for doing autolands. F/D: Flight director, controls the autopilot. NV/GP : no idea, never pressed it :( LOC: is for landing, It tells the autopilot to follow the localizer signal from the runway you are landing on. APP: This is for the autoland, pressing this under 1500 ft and approaching the runway will cause several things. It will turn on the other 2 autopilots, and have the autopilot follow the glideslope all the way down to the runway. V/S: vertical speed, tells the autopilot to climb or descend at the rate (feet per minute or second, I forget :) ) in the MCP. I may be wrong on a few things but thats the gist of it. I'm an amatuer LOL So here's how I do a flight, it may or may not be correct but it works for me :( 1. Start engines2. Program FMC with my route, speed and altitudes3. Taxi to runway4. set flaps, set heading in MCP to runway heading, set altitude in MCP to 10,000, set speed in MCP to 250.5. turn on f/d and autothrottle6. push throttles forward7. After throttles have been pushed forward, press EPR.8. When airborne, bring up the gear, as speed increases, bring in the flaps9. At 1500 ft, Engage autopilot CMD center button10. Push heading button and FLCH button11. at approx 2000 ft, set LNAV button12. Approaching 10,000, set VNAV Hope some of this helps :)Larry
  19. Not really, like I said, I get this a lot with the wilcos. Have you taken ownership of the FS9 folder? You can search the forums here for this, I can't remember how I did it but it's been good advice to many.Have you tried running FS9 as administrator? This is an easy thing to do. RIght click on your FS9 desktop icon, then click properties. Click compatibility tab, then look towards the bottom. You'll see a box marked run as administrator, make sure it has a check mark in it, then click ok.1 other thing to try is to grant yourself full control of the folder (don't think it's the same as taking ownership). THis is a cut and paste from the Wilco website, just substitute FS9 for FSX:How to install and setup an add-on under Windows 7 / VISTA (32/64bits OS) ?First, install the add-on using Full Administrator Rights. Then, go into program files\microsoft games\Highlight Flight Simulator X folder and right-click on itSelect the SECURITY tabClick on your username (not on Administrator 1)Click on the 'edit' option (it should have a pic of a shield on the button with edit next to it)Then you should be prompted by Vista security module, click on 'ALLOW'Then tick the 'Full Control' box and press 'OK'Installation of our add-ons can now start. We do not support the use of our FS2004 add-ons under Windows Vista/7 (although they may work).Make sure to run the installation of the add-on and of Flight Simulator with full Administrator rights by right-clicking on the application file and selecting the "As Administrator" feature. At the first add-on installation, make sure to accept the DLL Warning after the aircraft selection. We don't support the use of our add-ons under Windows XP64 and Vista 64.
  20. Check your modules folder. See if "FScopilot.dll" is still in the folder.I have had issues in the past with FSinn and FScopilot. Same thing as you, error when closing. Also, I have found the Wilco products can do this to me also, specifically the Airbuses. It really sounds like an add-on is not working correctly. Have you recently installed anything which could have started this behavior? Larry
  21. Got an email from Carenado support. Said they were uploading them and be ready in a few days..now whether it means it will be up for everyone to download or those who purchased direct from the Carenado store ?? no idea.Larry
  22. OK, so I logged in. I still don't see the updates. Looking at the options and after an email conversation with one of your support people, it seems I would have had to purchase from "your site" to get the updates listed for my purchases. As I did not purchase from your site, but from one of your "authrorized resellers" how exactly should I get hold of the updates? I do not see an option at the pilot shop or pc aviator to get "patches"..So I'm thinking I have to re-download after and if you supply an updated installer. No problem except most payware sites now a days "charge" for a re-download after a specific time period or number of downloads. So how do I get the updates for what I paid for? Thanks, Larry
  23. I almost choked on that word..."browser" LOLLooked a little into this rumor. Could not find anything to dispute this about MS Flight, however, I did find this http://www.robotentertainment.com/forum/topic/Clearing-some-confusion-and-misconceptions-while-respecting-NDA concerning Age Of Empires. Don't know who this guy is, possibly a beta tester, but he is saying AOE is "not" browser based. As this game and Flight are both mentioned in a Gamespy article as "browser based and casual" maybe his words applies to both?? Lets hope the same applies to FLight. Larry
  24. I think he's right, you can assign different settings in CCC and save a new icon to the desktop. I set up several for a particular flight situation, heavy weather, heavy iron etc. All using different profiles with different AA, AF etc. You can assign them to the same exe, you just need to name each profile something different.Larry Falcone
