  1. Update: I updated DirectX and that seems to have solved the problem.
  2. For some odd reason, FSX will not start up with the d3d9.dll provided in the SweetFX Package. Instead I get a message saying the FSX can't load all components, and telling me to repair FSX and then restart. As soon as d3d9.dll is removed, FSX runs normally again. After some experimenting, it would seem that FSX has an issue with the file when it is named d3d9.dll. If I change the name to anything else, FSX loads fine but obviously SweetFX doesn't function. I'm wondering if this could have anything to do with my previous use of the ENB mod? Where else besides FSX.cfg would FSX have any references to d3d9.dll that I could reset? Here are the steps I've tried (unsuccessfully): Fresh FSX.cfg Uninstall TML Use drd9.dll from ENB mod I'm truly mystified, folks. Any suggestions?
  3. I believe you need to keep the SHADER_CACHE_VERSION= line, just use a new value instead of 9872430. Come up with something random. (I do it in sequence to keep things simple. 1, 2, 3, etc...)
  4. Get the L-39. You won't be disappointed. ;)
  5. As far as I know, that is unrelated to SM3.0. That has happened to me before and is the result of a file being missing from your Flight Simulator X/Effects/Texture folder. I believe the filename is fx_1.bmp.
  6. I'm still trying to understand how FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION functions. I have set affinity mask to 14, so technically core 0 should be dedicated solely to the Fiber thread, Core 1 to the Main thread, and 2 & 3 to the Texture threads. So in light of Core 0 only working on Fiber, and the FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION only affecting Core 0, would work it to set FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION to 1.00?
  7. *******, I have question/request that is probably highly technical, and likely not possible; I would like to manually set my favorite FSWC settings into your SM3 mod. Is this possible, and if so, how? The desired settings are:Horizontal Refraction Intensity: 50%Vertical Refraction Intensity: 50%Reflection Bend Curve Multiplier: 3Reflection Bend Curve Intensity: 85%Base-Texture Color Intensity: 110%Sun Specular Reflection Intensity: 33%Moon Specular Reflection Intensity: 20%Moon Glow Reflection Intensity: 0%Thank you!
  8. Kyle, I have discovered that the grids aren't entirely gone, but rather greatly diminished. Still, I hope that will help.
  9. Kyle, I also have a 5770 and the "sparkles" work for me. Perhaps something in your graphics settings is causing this? My ATI CCC settings are:AA: 4X (Narrow Tent for 6X Samples. "Use application settings" is unchecked)AA Mode: Super-SampleAF: 16X ("Use application settings" is unchecked)Catalyst AI: DisabledMipmap: High QualityTripple Buffering: Unchecked
  10. *******, what do I modify to lessen the intensity of the reflection of the sky in the water?
  11. I noticed that as well. Is that supposed to happen?
  12. FlyandFight, I'm not sure. I also added the HIGHMEMFIX, but I doubt that did it.
  13. WOW! Problems solved! (without FlyandFight's tweak) I am able to have gridless water. Thank you so much, *******! Now I have two more questions; my water looks nice, but doesn't move as before. Is that how it's supposed to be (at 2x High)? Also, is it possible to use FSWC with your tweak? Thanks again!
  14. I will try adding that, *******. FlyandFight, is there a decent performance drop from not using the new water shaders?
  15. Hello all, first off I'd like to say that this tweak has had by far the biggest effect on performance of all the tweaks I've ever tried. Now it finally feels like my HD5770 is actually being used! I am able to fly in 5 mi vis with 8/8 cloud cover and smooth FPS. I have two issues though. The first is that when I use MIN_DETAIL_TEXTURE_LEVEL=21 and MAX_DETAIL_TEXTURE_LEVEL=21, I get some blurred textures, such as the runway at FTX's fantastic new Wax Orchards. When I change it to MIN_DETAIL_TEXTURE_LEVEL=15, however, those textures look fine. The other issue is that I have the grided water. I am using REX2 and the sparkling theme. I have read all 17 pages of this thread (whew!) and would like some help to try and get rid of those grids. Thanks again, *******!
  16. All that happened is that the fx_1.bmp file got deleted from your FSX/Effects/Texture folder. You can either try and get someone to email it to you, or do a repair. I would ask around for the file first.
  17. I have completed it. You can fly fast, but be sure to pop the spoilers so that you are flying at around 200kts before making a hard turn.
  18. I love the Kodiak (real world) but I am hesitant to buy this because I like very crisp and detailed external models (think RealAir or the CS C130X) and I'm not too impressed by the pictures I've seen so far of the Lionheart version. Part of that might be because all of the pictures I have seen so far are taken with low graphics settings. If someone could post some high quality pictures taken with high detail settings (Global Texture Res at Maximum) I would really appreciate it. Thanks!
  19. Looks great! I've been wanting some regular civilian paints. :(
  20. I just set it down instead of dropping it. It's not that hard. :(

    > If you like beachfront airports, pick any of them on the>Hawaiian islands, I think Microsoft did a good job in that>region.Yeah, MS did a pretty good job in Hawaii. One time when was flying near Kona, I was amazed to discover that they had included the Hilton Waikoloa Village with 3 custom buildings! To see them, just take off from Kona Intl and fly NE 'til you see three white, wierd shaped buildings (one looms like a an "8" but with 3 segments.) Also, I'm looking forward to that review!Anyway, as to favorite airports, I have just discovered SABA and love it (yes, I just purchased Twin Otter X and can't get enough:-roll,) PADU, PAYA, and TNCM is also nice, Timberline Lodge (you can get it from Munch Bros) is a lot of fun, and Burwash, Canada is also nice.

That's fine with me. I would much rather wait 2-3 more years and let the technology catch up with FSX, and then get a truly wonderful, finished flight simulator. I believe that ACES are infact making "FS11" I read something that made me believe this over on P Taylor's blog a while ago. As far as the "disappearance" of ACES members on this forum, I don't blame them. Having them here was a privelege that we abused with our constant complaints, accusations, and rants. If you had been standing in front of them, I doubt some of you would have said the things you said to them on this forum. Hopefully if all "grow up" a little they will eventually come back. I'm not saying they were right to release it as it was, but we all definitely should have handled it better.
  23. Before you ask, yes, I did put the BGl in my Scenery/World/Scenery folder. The only ideas I have about this are that I am missing the carrier's file, or that because of the location of my FSX (C:/Flight Simulator X), the file is not being found. When I start the mission my helo and all the other aircraft just sort of float 70ft over the ocean. Any thoughts?
  24. You could do it with this, just run Windows on it with Bootcamp.http://www.apple.com/macpro/You can get it with the NVidia 8800GT or you could replace that with an 8800 Ultra. I believe you can put up to 32GB of RAM in it. It wouldn't be much more expensive than building a dual quad core, it might even be cheaper. Plus this way you don't have to wait.
  25. I just opened up the map and punched in the coordinates. I'll fly around and "look" for them later. Just ask if you still need help finding them.
