  1. Wilco's E-jets are pretty good, but they're not really for button-pushers; I can have the whole thing set up for flight (excluding FMC setup) with maybe 10 different motions (starting engines, setting flaps, etc). If you don't mind the automation, however, they're nice airplanes to fly around; easy-handling, pretty good range, and decent speed. If you do consider them, also consider buying the McPhat texture set; it adds E-jet operators from all corners of the world, with the typical McPhat quality (read: incredible).
  2. You can't start on a carrier, and they move, so a flightplan won't necessarily take you to one.
  3. I don't question the enormous difference from a 172 to a King Air, but he certainly had a leg up on a person who had never flown in real life before.
  4. The article says the passenger was licensed to fly singe-engine planes, so he already knew the basics and just needed help with multi-engine turboprop operations.
  5. What gman said; I was flying from Hannover to Madeira in PMDG's MD-11 and sped up the flight (I didn't have time for the ~4 hour flight). Somewhere over France, I hear ATC giving some really bizarre instructions to a flight kind of like this (I don't remember the callsign, so let's say it's Speedbird 24):"Speedbird 24, you are 2000 below your assigned altitude, climb and maintain FL340."Three seconds later, "Speedbird 24, you are 5000 above your assigned altitude, descend and maintain FL340."The MFD showed a TCAS target shoot up from 3000 below me to about 7000 above, while ATC was giving those directions, and when I caught sight of the plane, the contrails showed the AI had done a 10,000-ft high half-loop. I was so stunned by this it didn't cross my mind to take a screenshot.
  6. ^ I've flown it a few times and that has never happened to me. Of course, I always try to grease my landings and end up hitting with a vertical speed less than -100 fpm but really close to stall speed (I know, bad form, but I haven't flown the plane long enough to tweak my landing style to it).
  7. I only have a laptop available to me, so I didn't have much choice. It runs FSX pretty well, too. :( And yes, it is indeed a Wacom tablet pen. The tablet itself is just barely visible, on the keyboard tray under the laptop. I have to disconnect it to run FSX (only so many USB ports available), so I usually put charts on it.
  8. Looks like a Hawker Sea Hawk; note how the vents just before the windscreen match, as well as the shape of the windscreen supports.
  9. You'll have to install your own turbo, but Aerosoft has a very nice Beaver package that includes an amphibious version (They'll also be coming out with a Catalina package in the next few weeks) and Carenado has a lovely Cessna Stationair amphibian. On the freeware side, Ian Thatcher has adapted FS2004's Grand Caravan Amphibian for use in FSX (Library Link), Mario Noriega made a Nadri Riviera (click me!), and Premier Aircraft Design made a Turbo Beaver (here it is). This is the result of just a very quick search; I'm sure if you commit yourself to maybe less than a half hour's search, you'll turn up more amphibians as well.
  10. Here's what I found for the non-turbo Arrow:http://www.risingup.com/planespecs/info/airplane424.shtmlFor comparison, these are the given specs for the Turbo Arrow:http://www.risingup.com/planespecs/info/airplane423.shtml
  11. Drats! I completely forgot about the ATR (and I own it :( )
  12. Some payware aircraft have a cabin view, like Wilco's E-jets, their 737, Captain Sim's 757 and 727. I heard of a freeware Saab 340 that had a virtual cabin as well, but I didn't find the link for it.In short, some aircraft have the cabin view, some don't. You just have to look around and see.
  13. I, too, have never flown (or for that matter, even seen) an Arrow IV in real life, but some specs I found online say it cruises at around 130 KIAS, with a top speed of just under 150 KIAS, which are doable in the sim (at least the 130 kts cruise...never tried for top speed). Are you sure you didn't look up the stats for the Turbo Arrow IV?
  14. Hello,Just recently, I noticed that smoke/dust sources in FSX had been replaced by a black blocky texture. Going through the effects folder, I found that a file, fx_1.bmp, is missing, and that the smoke/dust sources that are black and blocky in the sim reference this file. I'm figuring that an add-on I recently installed or uninstalled deleted it, but I'm not sure which add-on did it. Would it be possible for someone to attach the file here, or to instruct me in any possible way to replace just this one file? I've got quite a few add-ons, and don't really fancy reinstalling them all. Thanks for any and all help.
  15. You might want to search the PMDG Support Forum here at Avsim; I think I remember something similar a while ago, but alas, I can't remember the solution.
  16. Aside from the FAA's comments that the data portrays an inaccurate picture, it also sounds like the FAA could be going back on its word as an attempt to give the airlines a break; after all, if the data, inaccurate or not, makes people afraid to fly, then the airlines already on the verge of declaring bankruptcy could well be pushed into it by even a temporary dip in passenger numbers.Any other ideas?
  17. It'd be easier to follow rodger's advice and just uncheck "display flying tips" in the aircraft - realism menu. Chasing .cfg files around isn't much fun.
  18. To be marketed as Anti-Crash technology :(
  19. For the cost, though, I'd rather get the ICON A5, another LSA, but amphibious, too.
  20. The E-jets are wonderful little things. Like Tim said, not PMDG quality, but so far the best that Wilco/feelThere have put out. Just make sure that you buy the McPhat texture sets if you do end up buying the E-jets; they add so many colorful airlines from all over the world.
  21. :( I really hope they did their sums right. Those wings won't need much encouragement to fold in flight
  22. The French airport you're thinking of is Courchevel.
