  1. Ok.... I saw Senator Saxby Chambliss in an interview where he stated that during an intel brief "Boeing" made this statement. Now... maybe he misunderstood... but he was quite lucid w/ respect to the above statement about the transponder. Hence the "reported as".
  2. Agreed. But it does mean the ability to speak with a certain amount of authority... unlike most of us here.
  3. I don't know... maybe because they (Boeing) had something to do with the manufacturing of the aircraft. I just saw an interview done by Megyn Kelly (FOX News) of Chris Mclaughlin, A Senior Vice-President w/ Inmarsat. A snippet of that: he said their company had come up with the arc (North and South arcs) and had supplied that arc information (based on the handshakes / pings) to the Malaysian authorities by Tuesday (11th I believe). And what... how many days after that before the search shifted to the western Malaysia. It was at least Thurday the 13th before I remember seeing this for the first time in the Wall Street Journal. As far as the actual images themselves, its DigitalGlobe, from what I understand are the ones who's satellites supplied the images off of Western Australia. Is that really what you think I am doing?
  4. Well you can conclude anything you want... witness the speculation on all these forums. That is what happens when you let speculation drive theories rather than letting facts drive the investigation. My "guess" about this "secretive" business... much has to do with how the investigation is being handled by Malaysian authorities. I am not trying to speak ill of the Malaysian authorities. They just do not have the resources or experience that e.g. the U.S. has in these matters. Also.. I am sure the laws are quite different that speak to release of information (U.S. compared to Malaysia). I believe it would have been handled quite a bit differently had the accident aircraft's flight originated on U.S. soil. Problem with that is... Boeing is saying (is being reported as saying) the transponders were manually turned off (deliberately... not something by fire etc).
  5. A friend showed me this link... hopefully you find it useful. rcair1 sanity check: http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/general_aviation/read.main/6032551/#152 (click on line 152)
  6. Let me speculate a bit here. My guess is they (NTSB, FBI, Those at the Pentagon directing U.S. assests) are privy to information that we are not. That... and the decades of training & experience they have, etc... a highly experienced think tank (if you will)... not just one person pushing what they believe based on what has been reported in the media.
  7. The Soviets pulled this type of conspiracy theory / stunt of an excuse 30 years ago w/ KAL 007.
  8. Well.. a Kanye West award for that statement. I reckon that is why the U.S. has sent the NTSB, FBI... surveillance aircraft (plural) a couple of Navy destroyers to aid in the search... because the U.S. government doesn't care?
  9. Finally... someone (an older airline pilot) interviewed on FOX saying he doesn't know what the big deal is about the simulator... That he (the capt) could have figured the route "with a pencil and paper". Exactly! -------------------- Precisely. If you are around pilots, you will hear, "General Aviation lost its innocence on 9/11". One example is when giving flight instruction (in the U.S.)... the U.S. student is supposed to prove their citizenship status before beginning flight training. Non-U.S. flight students have more hoops to jump through. I hate to say it, but I will... this idea of flight simming being "in danger" smacks more of "the sky is falling" than anything else.
  10. Anything that would demonstrate a connection to the deviation. It would be tough to ignore.
  11. Yeah I know it was tongue-in-cheek... was just giving you a bit of razz Hook. I realize... it just depends what files and what *if anything* has any relationship to where the plane was tracked. It could be this... I certainly hope this isn't the case as it just adds insult to injury. Ok, ok, ok, ok... you got me there. :P
  12. Sure... It's how you spin this WSJ article... http://blogs.wsj.com/searealtime/2014/03/18/investigation-of-malaysian-pilot-insulting-says-simulation-maker/
  13. Well we all should know that is the way it is. The primary driver for the media is money... they fuel the 'hoopla' and as long as there is a market for it, it will continue to happen.
  14. Um... you a commercial airline pilot... piloting an aircraft w/ a couple hundred passengers that is missing? As far as deleted files... rarely do I delete. Backup? Yes. Delete? Not so much, no. As I said... it would be completely negligent not to investigate this aspect.
  15. Mine (tracert) about the same now as it was in mid-January this year. However much faster page loading now... But fast enough that my tiny brain not asking, "how much longer???". That's because ur underwater cable runs thru Hawaii... and they run on their own (laid back) time there.

    MH370

Meanwhile, former FAA spokesman Scott Brenner said Tuesday that Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 was already 12 minutes into its diverted course when the plane's co-pilot calmly told air traffic controllers that things were "all right." http://www.foxnews.com/world/2014/03/19/search-for-missing-malaysian-jet-focuses-on-southern-indian-ocean/
  17. Taking a look at the computer / sim is something that has to be looked at. The hyperbole in the media is there to drive the public's insatiable appetite, but this aspect still needs to be investigated. Now this: "Malaysia's defense minister said Wednesday that files were recently deleted from the home flight simulator belonging to the pilot aboard the missing Malaysian airliner, while a massive multinational search unfolded for the jet in the southern Indian Ocean." "Hishammuddin Hussein told a news conference Wednesday that investigators are trying to retrieve the files. He also said that the pilot, Capt. Zaharie Ahmad Shah, is innocent until proven guilty of any wrongdoing." http://www.foxnews.com/world/2014/03/19/search-for-missing-malaysian-jet-focuses-on-southern-indian-ocean/ So... will be interesting to see what files were deleted and if there is any relevance to the disappearance.
  18. Credit to Jeff Williams regarding this (we were discussing on Teamspeak earlier... welcome btw Jeff)... It's the "hide in plain sight" thingy. Flying over known routes / waypoints commonly traveled would raise less suspicion. Edit: I should have posted this also w/ respect to your question... The first turn to the west that diverted the missing Malaysia Airlines plane from its planned flight path from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing was carried out through a computer system that was most likely programmed by someone in the plane’s cockpit who was knowledgeable about airplane systems, according to senior American officials. Lost Jet’s Path Seen as Altered via Computer (New York Times) So someone it seems, according to this article, stuck a waypoint in the FMC.
  19. I think it is safe to say we have no clue what they'll find... not that I expect investigators will find anything. Yeah... it is possible. If there is an .rte file with the waypoints VAMPI / GIVAL / IGREX contained in it (and/or the LAT/LONGS)... as an investigator, that is going to give me real heartburn if I want to eliminate the pilot.
  20. Yep... just as I fear optimizing my own air conditioner to save on my electric bill will come under fire.
  21. Truth be told... I would look for an *.rte file. Other than that... I agree with your post. I too am amazed with the "Sophisticated Flight Simulator" angle the media is playing. I reckon "Game" doesn't work as well... :Sigh:

    MH370

Agreed... the media falling over itself in an attempt to look utterly ridiculous. 20,000 logged hrs really means nothing. 30+ years experience with the same company over that geography / airspace means nothing. What really matters is having the flight sim to practice. Maybe having online access of Enroute charts is next to ban after the flight sim.
  23. Hi Nick, Of that list @ http://www.justflight.com/bundle I have just the Quest Kodiak, Aerospool, Fairchild 24 and the Skylark... my choice of those would be the Kodiak. We need Bry on here to make short work of convincing you of the other one.
