  1. Yeah, the only times i've ever heard of black gauges is when it's been pirated.
  2. I want to sincerely apologize in advance if this is covered somewhere else, because I'm so overwhelmed with all the information out there that I just need some basic questions answered.I fly heavies in FSX, namely the PMDG 747. I'm pretty confident in what I know about it. (I did not read the manual, but I can program the FMC, start up after cold and dark, etc). I don't usually fly with ATC, nor do I have traffic turned on, I just fly around wherever in FSX, but I'm looking for more in-depth flying, and more immersion.I've been reading about virtual airlines, and I have no idea what they're about! Questions:1) What level of expertise do you need to belong to a virtual airline? I am by no means a beginner, but I'm not a pro either.2) What type of time-commitment do you need? I'm a full time student, so I don't have hours a day to spend on it.3) What do they cost to join/ use their "network"4) Do my add-ons work with these virtual airlines? (PMDG and I also recently purchased the feelthere erj-145)5) Do I need to know how to "talk" to ATC?6) Do you get to fly any aircraft you want right away, or do they make you "move up" to larger aircraft based on hours?I was leaning towards United, since I already have the livery for my ERJ, as well as for the PMDG... Basically, from what I see online, they look really cool! I love how you can track other members' flights, as well as it tracks your hours, etcThanks in advance for any help and advice you all might have, and again, sorry, if this wasn't where I was supposed to post this :( - Paul
  3. ha yeah! we need pics! or unless you can write a visually appealing poetic masterpiece to better illustrate the scene :( - Paul
  4. i just bought it (well, my gf did for valentine's day) and its a FANTASTIC plane, you won't be disappointed... the night lighting it a little goofy, but everything else is awesome!!i'm running x64 OS too- paul
  5. rather than taking this to the hardware forum, quick question.... if i came across another 250 GTS for cheap, would it be advantageous to SLI them? i know FSX doesnt do well when SLI is used, but how about in my case? would i be able to use high AA/ AF?
  6. i have traffic off to begin with...i'll go back to the 182.50 driver and start tweaking...and i think i'll be looking for the gtx275, newegg is sold out though!
  7. Well, I updated the driver to the newest driver last night from Nvidia (196.21), but before that it was at like 185 something i think (because i read it was supposedly the best driver)... i'm having the same problems with the new driver as i did the old one, in fact, it's worse.another thing is when things are ok (fps wise) when i pan around the aircraft somewhat quickly, i'll get black lines down the screen for a quick second... does that sound like a driver issue? or the card itself?
  8. i dont know anything about AF and AA settings, i just set up per nick's suggestions...i had it at 16xS because thats the only setting on my old 720p TV (1366x768) that didn't flicker...would it be reasonable to assume that 1920x1080 at 16xS is way too much for my GTS 250 to handle? i thought it wasn't a bad video card... would the 275 be substantially better?
  9. i use nhancer (to nickN's spec), and i did just notice that if i go in to FSX and change it to anisotropic with anti-aliasing, my FPS jump to normal.... but when its trilinear, then it struggles...
  10. I've searched but couldn't find similar problems. My specs are in my signature. I recently bought a new monitor 1920x1080 and ever since, my FPS have tanked to like 2-3fps at my hometown airport, but if I bump it down one notch of resolution, i'll jump to like 25. I truly don't think it's the monitor, although I do understand there are a LOT more pixels. When I load a flight, sometimes I'll get normal FPS (1920x1080), such as 20, and then other times, it'll load and i'll have 2-3fps. What gives? I have UTX, GEX, REX, PMDG.... my FPS are bad even in default aircraft as well...Do I need to rebuild my fsx.CFG? how should I start trouble shooting? It recently started doing this...- Paul Sapp
  11. i've googled the ERJ (the new version) but i'm not sure what the price is, whether it's in euros, dollars, etc. so what exactly is the price USD?
  12. is there a reason behind not installing it in program files? i'm curiousi think i'm going to just reinstall along with all my addons, thanks guys
  13. First off, I know how to make a flight plan in FSbuild and I know how to import the plan in to my PMDG, the only problem is, I don't like where FSbuild is saving my *.rte plans...I've looked online and found that I need to fix how FSbuild locates my FSX main directory, which I have done. My FSX main directory is C: program files/ FSX.exe ... I messed up when installing it, I know, i know :( Anyway, my PMDG flight plan export location on FSbuild is set correctly (C: program files/ PMDG/ flightplans, but where my flight plans actually end up is C/ users/ paul/ app data/ local/ virtual store/ program files/ PMDG/ flight planswhy is it going to APP DATA?! my next question is, is it possible to move my FSX directory without compromising it? As it is right now, when you click program files, I have all my program folders, and all my FSX stuff is in there, no neat folder to contain it all, again, my fault when I installed it this way on accident. Can I just create an FSX folder in program files and copy all my FSX stuff in there? Thanks in advance guys,Paul
  14. i don't use the flight planner and all that, but let me get this straight, because i'm a bit confused as well...when i installed REX2, did it automatically install all of those themes that are listed? or do i have to go in to REX and select each one, modify it (if i want to), and then install it in to FSX.i guess my question is, when i installed REX2, before i selected any textures and installed them in to FSX, do i see any REX textures? or do i have to first go through all the themes and install them in to FSX to see them? does this make sense?do i choose user defined weather or one within FSX that corresponds to the theme i installed in REX?
  15. my resolution is 1366x768 (720p 32 inch LCD)would i see any difference going from a GTS 250 to GTX 275? as in picture quality? I do use nhancer...
  16. looks like i probably should keep the GPU, and save for an i7 920 build huh? hah
  17. my fsx rig is as follows: q6600 oc'd to 3.2, 8gb ram, gts (250 512mb), on a 32 inch display (vizio lcd hdtv)i get pretty good frame rates (or atleast i can live with them), i have UTX, REX 2 and the PMDG 747. I know fsx is primarily CPU bound, but i sort of feel like my video card is hindering the crispness and/ or detail of the textures. its hard to explain. i see other's screen shots, and i dont feel like i'm seeing the same amazing scenery detail as them even though i have the same add-ons. i have followed nickn's install guide. is there a difference between a gts 250 video card and a gtx 260 or 285 as far as the level of scener detail/ richness? or is fsx so cpu-bound that it doesnt really make a difference? i need to know if the scenery detail (or lackthereof) is all in my head, or if there really os a difference.i guess my question is, if i left everything else the same (CPU, memory, etc), and upgraded just my video card to maybe a GTX 260 or 285, would i see better visuals? i know i wouldnt see better frame rates, thats not my concern, i just want to see the same stunning scenery as i see with others. on the other hand, i know that most of those people have i7 920 set-ups, but i thought that would just increase frame rates, not do anything visually. so whats the consensus? is it worth it to spend the money on upgrading the video card? will i see any difference in the scenery quality/ textures? or not. thanks in advance!- paul
  18. I have a Q6600, overclocked to 3.0 (which is a VERY light overclock), with UTX, GEX, REX PMDG 747. and I'm very happy with my setup. I've never run a dual core, and yours seems to be overclocked quite a bit. i'm not sure you'd see much in the way of frame rate increases, but maybe an overall more smooth experience.
  19. i'll check it out. i reeaally want an FMC, after flying PMDG, i'm spoiled :(
  20. i've searched around, and i've found quite a few large payware jets. my plane of choice is the pmdg 747. but i really want to find a nice smaller jet, such as a citation or learjet. are there any payware/ freeware smaller jets out there that are worth it? it has to have an FMC. thanks in advance guys!
