    FPS

While using PMDG aircraft, i.e. the NGX, with payware airports (flightbeam flytampa) and textures set to 4096 and using REX 4 TD clouds, is 25-30 a good fps while taxing around the airports? Am I being too ambitious in pursuing anything further? I have a 2600K at 4.6ghz and a 780 gtx. bajote's fsx tweak, nvidia inspector set to 16xS [Combined: 2x2 SS + 4x MS] and 2 sparsegrid supersampling.
  2. Speaking of cockpit panel states, what is the best and most realistic state to use for startup at the gate?
  3. It was either 2 or 4 for SGSS REX HD clouds
  4. Guys, I have a fast system I7 2600K @4.6ghz and 780 GTX). I jumped on the DX10 band wagon about two weeks ago when I purchased Steve's DX10 Scenery Fixer. I installed it, set everything up, and edited the nvidia inspector setting for proper use with DX10. First test flight the cockpit texture resolution didn't seam as sharp as with DX9, but it wasn't too noticeable until I switched back to DX9. I was amazed at the jump in performance, and how smooth it was, however yesterday I loaded real weather using OPUS in conjunction with REX cloud textures (4096x4096). As I climbed through 9,000' and made entry into a layer of HD clouds, I watched my FPS drop from close to 60 to 10-15 with unplayable stutters. I experimented with the DX10 fixer AA settings, from 32X down to 8, and tweaked the NI settings, going from 2SGSS to just 4SS. No significant jump in performance and now the cockpit was full of Jaggies and shimmers. I sat on this a bit and realized with how DX10 draws cloud textures, it is impossible to get a good balance between performance and great graphics. To get playable smoothness in the clouds, you will have to degrade your texture settings so the cockpit won't look nearly as good as it did. This is just because of the clouds, no where else in DX10 did I experience a drop in performance. Needless to say, I reverted to DX9. I realized I had not added bufferpools=0 to my fsx.cfg, so I added that. I started FSX back in DX9 mode and set the PMDG on runway 13 on Flytampa's Hong Kong Kai Tak airport. I ran FRAPS and wanted to run a quick benchmark, and realized my FPS was at a steady 30 instead of 20-24. I took off and it remained steady and smooth, even as I flew through the same clouds I detailed above. The biggest thing that blows about going back to DX9 is that there are no more amazing cockpit shadowing. Other than that, after reverted back to DX9 I am experiencing a perfect balance between texture quality and performance.
  5. I found the downside to DX10...clouds. I was flying through some dense REX clouds and my FPS descended from 40+ to just 10-15. This is with a I7 2600K @4.6ghz and a 780 GTX. Is this a known problem, and is there a way around this?
  6. Your FPS should NEVER exceep your monitor refresh rate, Mine is 60hz, so anyhing between 40-60 is smooth by my standards.
  7. Yes, that is exactly what I did. I'm very fortunate I did, because the link for Bajote's FSX.cfg tweaker is now a dead link. I'm going to go page by page through the manual tonight, and get things fine tuned. Before, I had my internal fps locked at 30fps, and it rarely achieved 30fps (NGX, REX, GEX, UTX, Flytampa and FTX airports, maxed out settings. I ran a quick benchmark flight out of FTX's KBZN with real weather, light bloom on, maxed out settings, here is my performance (I locked it at 40FPS): 2014-03-25 05:50:44 - fsx Frames: 19840 - Time: 532401ms - Avg: 37.265 - Min: 22 - Max: 42 So even with known "performance killers" checked i.e. light bloom, I was still getting considerably better performance. It is said you shouldn't look too much into the FPS number is a benchmark goal, and that overall smoothness is what you should be aiming for. I am happy to say that my performance was stutter and tear free, and well as VERY smooth.
  8. Just a little tweaking in the fsx.cfg and nvidia inspector. I will run a test flight tomorrow, but so far performance is much much better, with an ever so slight improvement in graphics. courtesy of steves dx10 fix. flytampa airports are now dx10 compatible as well
  9. Got it set up, smooth as silk, FPS up about 15. It wasn't much of a hassle.
  10. I just decided to switch to DX10. I have a high end CPU and a 780 GTX video card so I read that DX10 may be more beneficial to me. So I downloaded Steve's DX10 Fix, installed it, and my graphics are horrible. My question is, do I need to edit my fsx.cfg? What are the best nvidia inspector settings? What are my control panel graphics setting in FSX supposed to indicate? Thanks for your help!!!
  11. Anyone have a hyperlink to the actual Boeing 777 FCOM? Thanks for the info by the way.
  12. Minus FS2 Crew availabity, does anyone have accurate Captain/First Officer flows for the the 777 that covers all phases of flight? If not that, and comprehensive and thorough beginning to end checklist? I know the systems are far more automated than the 737 NG, so I'm assuming these checklists aren't as long.

  14. The latest REX program for weather textures, OPUS for real weather generating (uses REX textures), GEX for ground services, AES for jetways to connect to aircraft, FlyTampa and Orbx airport scenery programs, EZDOK EZCA camera, Track IR 5, and a good joystick and throttle.
  15. I tried to install froogles camera set and it did not install dynamic head movement (DHM)
  16. 18-25 @ FlyTampa airports with REX, and AI traffic. 60fps at cruise. System is as signature indicates except an EVGA 780 GTX in lieu of the 580's in SLI. An important point to illustrate is that the 777 taxis smoothly as well as smooth, virtually stutter free takeoff a and landings, despite the fps counter showing 18-25.
  17. I hope release is pushed out 2 more months so I can spend time studying the 777's systems

    Price ?

I am thoroughly annoyed at seeing these posts inquiring on the price. PMDG releases almost all of there products within the same price range.
  19. It's coming close guys, but I hate to burts your bubble on the reason for "at risk for closure". If I was a betting man it's because the the bold red AVSIM announcement that this thread is being monitored by avsim staff because of the possibility of going south or abusive exchanges of words on here.
  20. Got it fixed. since one of the latter Airac cycle rekeases, the numbers have changed a bit. This web site has a download and auto-install for the correct navigation data: http://vapap.com/kai-tak-airport
