  1. I am not quite sure if I am answering the question you are asking but here is how I use Pilot View. Please note the order of actions is crucial. 1) Make sure TrackIr is DISABLED in the X-Plane equipment menu; this is crucial to prevent conflicts as the plugin already has a native TrackIr Interface. 2)Start the simulator with TrackIr running but wthout your "hat" on so the TrackIr is not sensing. 3)Open up the plane you are going to set views for. The plane should load in "W" view i.e. straight ahead 2D cockpit. 4)Click on the Plugin and enable the control panel; then click and clear everything. 5)Click and clear the offsets (lower half of the panel) and save. All the windows should read zero. 6)Then, without altering the view, click the first preset. The adjacent small box should have a tick in it. 7)Then click the restrict view box (small and just beneath the presets.) 8)Then, still not altering the view, click the next preset (in this case number two.) 9)Now use the keys in the upper half of the panel to alter the view (forward, backward, side to side, up down etc). Alter the value in the associated small box to alter the incremental shift from the default 0.01. 10)When you have the view you want then AND ONLY THEN click the restrict view box. 11)Not altering this view click the next preset (in this case numbae three) and continue as in 9) 12)When finished click save next to the presets and then close the programme. The order is everything if you move a preset after its' view has been "restricted" problems will arise. Make sure you setup hotkeys for the plugin. I use ALT 1-9. I also only ever initiate PilotView from the "W" view. Please note I am not an expert user and their maybe a more efficient way of using this software. If this was payware I'd complain about the lack of decent instructions. It isn't the individual who developed this plugin did it out of their own spare time........MUCHOS KUDOS
  2. Apologises for being more thick than normal but can anyone with the FJS 727 tell me if it's possible to arm the spoilers prior to landing?
  3. There isn't a "them and us" just a "trolls and us" issue. It's difficult for me personally to have a "them and us" mentality since I am both "them" and "us" being an enthusiastic user of X-Plane, FSX and military flight sims. I don't quite see the "barriers" in "such a big forum". If I want the latest gossip about FSX/P3D I just click (and regularly do) the appropriate forum and guess what.... there it is. Difficult, arduous..hardly.
  4. "This topic doesn't do well with me" --but having P3D developers trolling in other forums does ? "To me the word discerning implies.." --discerning--adj: having or showing good judgement (Oxford Concise English Dictionary) there doesn't appear to be any reference/implication to the owner being unique in having the characteristic. But then when the pint glass is half full people divide neatly into two groups. Reginald Perrin ...oohh happy days (my mother-in law is enough of a good sport to let me get away with it !!)
  5. The recent posting on the X-Plane Forum by a developer from a different platform to inform us about how wonderful their platform is ??!!?? should be viewed as...... a compliment. They are obviously seeking, consciously or unconsciously, approval from a discerning group of flight simulation hobbyists who enjoy a high fidelity software program designed, maintained and supported by a relatively small group of passionate people. As far as responses to this particular post and others of its kind... ---the most deadly large animal in Africa (by number of humans killed annually) ---the irony of knowing that after you have been bitten in half you'll be spat out in disgust (its vegetarian) ---its' skin accounts for 25% of its weight!! ---and is thick enough to stop most small arms fire THINK HIPPO
  6. That's really great to hear and thanks for the info on P3D. Having said that scrolling to the top this would appear to be a forum to exchange information and views (good or bad) on X-Plane. There is, surprisingly, on the same site a forum devoted to P3D. I suppose if I wanted to hear the latest gossip about P3D I would go there. Perhaps this is all part of a charitable service where users of one platform post in the forums of other platforms just to keep everybody abreast of the latest developments. I presume therefore those on the P3D forum would welcome us posting on their forum news of developments in X-Plane. I must admit having seen the visuals, P3D looks to be a mighty fine simulator of fog and clouds; things that really cut to the core of what flight simulation is all about. Congratulations .
  7. X Sim reviews used to be my go to site for the latest XP info and reviews. Since nose diving under new management it isn't. This has nothing to do with criticism of XP valid or otherwise (we already know it's not the greatest piece of software ever designed) but due to infrequent updating, Blogg ranting and poor quality reviews. Forums like this can be useful but do you have a favourite site to keep up to date with latest in XP world?
  8. I have bought Peter's A380 and I am enjoying starting to learn "The Airbus Way". The representation of the FBW to this newbie seems excellent. Although not normally a "Magenta line / FMS" fan I thought if I was going to try one then I might as well try "The Mother of All Automatics". My problem is I prefer to fly in 3D cockpit with TrackIr using the excellent PilotView for the necessary close-ups of panels. The panels seem sharp even when zoomed in but unfortunately the PFD / MFD's don't, to the point where it can be quite difficult to interpret the information. Given that Ramezzess did the 3D cockpit and this isn't a problem in the T777 am I doing some thing wrong ? What are other users experiences ? Is there anyway to alter this ? Thanks TIM
  9. Oh yes I can't wait for this one; not a magenta line / FMS in sight. Even more interesting is the collaboration between an experienced aerospace engineer and skilled 3D artist which looks like it will continue into another project. All that's needed is a good sound engineer and I am sure it would be near perfect. The one area where I think XP still lags is good sounds. I can kick the tyres light the fires of my A2A simulation spitfire and then realise 10minutes later that I've got so lost in the merlin burble that I've not actually started to taxi.
  10. Bingo. Thanks Jcomm. That's exactly what I was looking for. Typical x-plane ..the info is all there and more just not quite so non-engineer friendly as some other sims To be honest I am not sure why I am being so fussy it's not as if my instrument ILS skills are so good that 2.4 degrees(210-207.6) is going to make a difference
  11. Thanks for the info. The only problem I have is those are probably real life localiser headings not necessarily in game and given the real life headings change over time may not be the same. I am not so interested in real life accuracy as in game accuracy
  12. Where do you get accurate ILS localiser information ? The only information I can find is on the local map and that is just the frequency paired to the rounded up/down runway heading. Is there somewhere to get the accurate in game, as opposed to real life, localiser heading to dial in ? Thanks TIM
  13. Thanks for the Info anthony D i'll look into it. Tim
  14. Hi Anthony d, Interested to see you're modelling a UK airport. Given my location, the lack of any upgrades to Uk airports in the list, the desire to stoke the fires of international competition as expressed in the number of resonalbe airports in XP10: can you advise on the best sources for advice on starting a project for a tech newbie, Thanks TIM
  15. Not an aficionado, but still wouldn't agree (and for far more than just night textures) . Have both FSX and XP10 and play both. Fsx is a ten colour paint set used by great artists with years of practice. XP10 is a hundred colour paint set used by a few great artists who have by comparison just started. If your a pure flight sim fan and not wedded ideologically or financially to any platform (I wouldn't want the poster to run the risk of marital disharmony a second time) I know where I would prefer good 3PD to be directed.
  16. Mmmhh that's a first in Flight Simming for me. Maybe a good way to get the attention of someone but probably not helping future sales figures if half your prospective clients have had heart attacks. Anyway hopefully the show continues and like others looking forward to the end result.
  17. Univer DC2 is ok...better still X-Aviation DC3 for X-plane 9/10
  18. Is it possible in x-plane to divorce the visible model (the "art") from the flight model (the "science" ). Surely an approach would be to set up a simplified flight model (like a simple balsa wood plane) use some reverse endineering to get it to perform as expected and finally cloth it in artwork.
  19. Interesting information. It seems to me that the construction of a high fidelity aerobatic glider model including correct reponses upto and through the stall (including spin) would be an excelllent test of the potential of the basic X-plane software without the complication of engines, especially propellor engines. I suspect that even in this pure flight model task the software would need tweeking with plugins. Definately one to compensate for the responses that an average computer joystick / rudder controller combination can achieve compared with those in an actual glider. If achieved eventually the lessons learned could be applied to a single prop aerobatic plane to give a high fidelity desktop simulation..........do you think my scheming is too transparent
  20. I'd be interested to hear your opinions about the flight model (especially with the engine stowed.) With your gliding knowledge just how good is XP's rendition of of glider flight dynamics: control response, inertia, drag, stall spin behaviour, reponse to crosswind etc. With a standard joystick/ rudder combination what XP controller setting do you prefer.
  21. How do you disable the AI aircraft? Apologies if this is obvious.
  22. Glad you are converted  The person you were debating with may have been a professional pilot....just not a very good one. A quick glance at air accident reports will confirm the presence of such individuals who are thankfully in the minority. All the best in your quest concerning the sound effect which unfortunately I can't help with.
  23. Why would you want to achieve a "Greaser" anyway? These types of landings tend to use excessive amounts of runway when excessive amounts are not available. As a pilot you want to be aiming to land positively exactly where you want and exactly when you want. "Greasers" are rarely compatible with those aims and are not what professional pilots strive to achieve .
  24. Hi Jcomm. I know you are a fan, as am I, of Denker's "See How it Flies". If I am reading it right (Chapter 9, especally sections 9.5 9.6) these aren't engine torque effects (as these would only be apparent when altering the throttle) but propellor drag effects. It wounld be interesting to see if these could be reduced as in real life by asymmetrical wing incidence. TIM
