  1. Since playing FSX I hardly ever tried to manual land. It was just too hard. As I have played now for about 5 years I have built up addons, and learned the ins and outs of fsx. I have also used many plane simulations and taught myself from the ground up through manuals and much internet research how to fly these advanced simulations. I do not want to be a real pilot, and I have no delusions about being a real pilot in terms of skill and knowledge. I, like everyone have been waiting for the NGX. I have spent all my free time practicing and this simulation is just amazing in every way. Last night I loaded up my sim and worked on touch and go's. I tweaked my ch flight yoke so it would fly straight, and then I took on the challenge of trying a manual landing with HGS. I flew to my RL home Denver,CO. I did it!. I took over manual control of the airplane at 1000ft and I followed the HGS...I don't know why but I my heart was beating fast and the pucker factor was high (after all I was just sitting in front of my PC.) I used only small corrections on the yoke, and she flew straight and true. It felt awesome to achieve my first manual landing. I did it again just now, and did really good. I know I am such a nerd but this is so addictive I love it! Guthrie Z

  3. this is most likely happening because you are hitting APP too fast. If you hit it before the G/S is active it will indicate G/P on your PFD. You can tell if the G/S is active because you will see a white diamond show up on the PFD that is your G/S once you are ready to capture it hit APP then you will see G/S show up on your PFD then hit your CMD B. make sure you are not seeing G/P indicated on your PFD if you want autoland. 4. I use vnav to descend and something I do is to add a speed restriction of 225 I also mod the speeds at waypoints before the iaf so that I am at 185 and ready to drop flap at the iaf. This plane does an amazing job at meeting the speed restrictions with vnav. It will even tell you if you will need to use speedbrakes at an upcoming waypoint.Guthrie z
  5. Yes... once you see the white diamond shaped carrot show up you then hit APP wait for Glide Slope capture G/S will annuciate on the PFD and carrot turns magenta. then hit CMD B and you will autoland. If you have access to approach plates you can get the G/S intercept altitude for your runway so you will know what altitude you need to be at for G/S capture instead of guessing. Guthrie Z
  6. I corrected this by centering a camera on the HGS and creating a new view in EZCAM. Now I just hit a button on my joystick to pull up HGS perfectly centered and aligned . Guthrie Z
  7. FSX is CPU bound we all know this. Some people go out and get the fastest CPU they can find thinking FSX will now scream through the frames like the youtube videos they watched but...Things don't work like that. In order to maximize your CPU you have to remove bottlenecks from your entire chain/system. You need a fast video card not so much because FSX needs it but because your CPU requires it to operate at its best. You need a robust power supply to provide adequate power to your CPU and your high end video card. Think of it like a car. You can stick a turbo charger on a 1996 Ford Festiva but its really not going to be as fast as a Turbo Charger on a sports car. Point being you need to build your PC to support the heavy workload FSX will put the CPU through. That being said, I do not overclock my video card. I run with a GTX 580 an i7920 OC to around 3.6ghz and a 1000 watt powersupply with plenty of cooling. For me FSX runs nice and smooth with the "******* tweaks" that are linked in the PMDG manuals as well as using an external frame rate limiter and setting FSX to unlimited. Guthrie Z
  8. Make sure you wait until the proper intercept alt to capture the G/S . On the PFD make sure the carrot appears (it looks like a white diamond) once you hit approach and it captures it turns magenta. If you hit APP too soon then it goes into G/P mode instead. Guthrie Z
  9. I was having this problem on an approach to KIAH it was picking up the back course and indicating BCRS on the PFD. I forget the specific PMDG option but it has something to do with fsx ils crs drift i think. I notice after I dial the CRS in that it changes to compensate for the drift I was on a CRS of like 087 and the drift ended up at like 289 degrees picking up the Back Course and then not allowing auto land. I found that if I either capture the VOR before it compensates for drift I am fine or I can just re dial the front course. That is what was causing it for me anyway... Guthrie Z
  10. Guys, I have literally been flying the PMDG 737 NGX non stop for two days. Staying up all day and night to fly this wonderful piece of software. This is one of the most complete pieces of software I have ever experienced in any genre. I really could not ask for anything more. As a matter of fact I wouldn't have asked for this... ignorance is bliss I suppose. Thank you all for your effort, and your love of this great hobby. It is obvious that the caring and attention to detail the team put in goes far beyond a paycheck. Great! Great! JOB! I am reminded of a great Wayne Gretzky quote... "A good hockey player plays where the puck is. A great hockey player plays where the puck is going to be." PMDG is one step ahead... Guthrie Z
  11. KLAS-KIAH. I have tried this flight 5 times and each time I cannot accomplish an Autoland. I can land manually (sort of) I set up my approach 8R I am on the LOC althought BCRS is annunciated. I pick up the GP at 3000 ft now at this point if I want to autoland I would click CMD B which should then engage and Flare annunciates. This is not happening. I cannot engage both AP's it just switches. I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong here. on the PFD I am perfectly centered on the LOC.... Guthrie Z
  12. I promise you if you are running an i7 processor with a 9800gtx your system you have a huge bottleneck and its the video card. Think of it like a huge hose with a kink in it. How do you get the full flow? Remove the kink ie video card. I have a gtx 580 and I can tell you its awesome and I highly recommend it with an i7 processor. I, like others here get smooth flight everywhere with the ******* tweaks. I hope I helped. Guthrie Z
  13. my sixth sense tells me...It will be released in less then 24 hours. The calm before the storm. No posts from PMDG no "news" about delays beta community is quieting down furious behind the scenes work being done no doubt. It is 20:49 8/3/2011 at the time of this post. I think a little bit of sleep for the team and by tomorrow AUG 4 we will have our pretty little make believe airplane. Guthrie Z
  14. this could be taken a couple different ways Guthrie Z
  15. I am not interested in X-Plane. I tried it, and the day that xplane has detailed airports all over the world, atc and the addon support msfs has ill jump on that bandwagon. I am not moving over to a work in progress simulator. FSX started quite rough but the addon community really jumped in and filled in the cracks. Some very talented simmers have also stepped up to solve issues within the sim itself. For example, http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html got FSX running smooth as silk for me. I think that there is room for more then one flightsim however I don't think that X-Plane is it...my two cents. Guthrie Z
  16. As far as whether a simmer could land a real plane without any flight training other than MSFS with advanced addons. I think this theory describes it well. http://youarenotsosm...-kruger-effect/
  17. maybe the touchdown was hard, and they bounced. The pilots tried to thrust up to get back in the air auto brakes disengaged, and then they tried to reverse thrust and it wasn't available because engines where not idle probably all happened in a split second...all complete conjecture on my part. So glad nobody was hurt. Nothing but respect to the real pilots unlike myself. Guthrie Z
  18. For weather I use Active Sky Evolution by HIFIsim. I have also used REX 2.0 weather generator. I have a registered copy of FSUIPC by Pete dowson. I need help with setting up my sim so that I can fly with winds aloft. Here is what I understand about this problem. HIFIsim blames the problem on PMDG. PMDG says its not their problem. Some people say its just a general problem with FSX and simconnect. I think that is true since these issues happen with all weather generators I have tried including FSX's real weather. At this point I don't care what I use. I would just like to be able to fly this aircraft with some form of weather and wind. Please share your insight as far as your exact settings in ASE or REX as well as wind smoothing settings in FSUIPC. The only way I can fly in the sim with this aircraft is by disabling all winds aloft and disabling turbulence basically disabling everything related to weather...which pretty much sucks. Thanks,Guthrie Zuehlkessn: 542-76-3209status: Marriedaddress: Littleton, COSalary: $50,000-$75,000Political affiliation: IndependentEmployed: yesDOB: 8/14/76Favorite Movie: Donnie DarkoMaking fun of PMDG's forum rules: yes :)
  19. Hello! You did adjust your altimeter to local pressure at the transition altitude usually 18000ft didn't you? Guthrie Zuehlke
  20. Hello,I read the thread and saw your screenshot. I notice you are a bit fast comming into the runway. What I do is when I get to around 11000ft or so the plane slows to get to the speed restriction at 10000 feet I will usually put out some speed brakes to slow it down. Once my speed is stable I will let the plane stabilize and descend to around 9500 ft or so. At this point I drop flaps 15 this drops the speed down to around 180. It takes awhile for the plane to slow all the way down but i find that if I time it this way the plane is right at around 180 when I capture the LOC and G/S. Once established on Loc and G/S with speed stable its just a real simple gear down set landing flap and ride the slide down to the runway. I found in this plane timing with the flaps is really important in controlling speed on approach. If you stabilize the plane before you are on final it makes the final and landing easy. I hope this helps.Guthrie Zuehlke
  21. Coming into Narita in CAT III conditions. I am fully set up for autoland established on loc and G/S flying straight and true just about to cross 1500 agl when tcas alarm sounds...plane goes into what appears to be go around mode automatically. throttle up nose up I immediately disconnect auto pilot and land the plane. Is this a safety feature of the md-11 when the tcas sounds under a certain altitude? The flight was ultimately sucessful I got my sim passengers there alive, but just curious why that happened.Guthrie Zuehlke
