  1. Don't get me started on the DoHS and TSA. The need for a TWIC card had me sitting in a hotel room waiting on a flight home last week. They wouldn't be needed if business had been handled properly back in the 90s.
  2. If anything, Southwest will take over the C terminal gates at ATL with the few D terminal gates that AirTran has but I don't recall AirTran having many if any gates on the E terminal side of D. Once the new international terminal opens, there wouldn't be as many problems with the international flights as there are now. Still, early morning flights are likely to have long taxi times as many planes are departing then, especially Monday mornings. It will be interesting.
  3. The other airports from the show are:Lindbergh Field, San Diego, CA KSAN - Fly TampaKai Tak, Hong Kong VHHXMadeira LMPAEagle County, CO KEGE
  4. While I couldn't really download the pictures while I was on the road working outside of Chicago, being home allows me to check out what is happening, at least in Opera. While the attached picture above does not show in it's window, it does open when it is clicked on. This is similar to what was happening just after the forum upgrade.Linking to a picture still works.
  5. AVSIM can be described as a social network of sorts, but it really is a closed network unlike Facebook where anyone could send a friend request to you. Here, it is like minded individuals and companies sharing their love of one thing, FS. Rules here also require members to remain civil, even if some push the envelope a bit, mods do ban those that cross the line, even in anonymity (they are not anonymous to the mods). To those who think that some are complaining about a 24/7 constant connection to play games just to complain, it isn't so with me. My job keeps me on the road, just like I am now, for any period of time, once it was a 13 month job 600 miles from my permanent connection. Sure, hotels offer Internet connections, but they are not really stable and any hiccup will cause a disconnect from the DRM server and loss of game progress. That does not count the times I have played games while at work (nothing for me to do until all the welds are completed) where there is no connection. At least with Steam, I can play the games I have installed on my laptop, even Company of Hero's which also requires an Internet connection. I couldn't play SHV or Assassin's Creed 2 while sitting at some oil refinery if I owned them as I would have no way to connect to the Internet to authenticate them with the servers.24/7 DRM handicaps those who pay for their games, unlike those who pirated AC2 and Splinter Cell Conviction especially when the servers where under a denial of service attack when the games were first released. Pirates get to play unhindered if their connection hiccups or fails. I don't condone piracy, but publishers who make legitimate buyers use such draconian measures to ensure that people pay, only serve to push more to actually pirate said games.
  6. This is most bothersome as it quite possibly means the game is tied to MS's servers as a form of DRM, a similar kind that Ubisoft lost 13% in sales in PC games in it's last quarter compared to the same quarter the previous year. This could be no more than a Steam like feature, but at least Steam allows for one to play games offline unlike Ubisoft who requires a constant connection. MS may have a hard time selling Flight if it does require a 24/7 connection. I won't get into the "social" experience part of it. I don't use Twitter or Facebook, and I don't expect games to give me that for any price.
  7. Move your mouse cursor over the edge of the FMC so to bring up the double headed arrow cursor. Once that shows, left click and drag the cursor down to enlarge the FMC. That will help you with entering the right digits in the FMC. If not, drag the edge of the FMC down further until it works correctly.
  8. I haven't tried other ATC packages in FS9 or FSX yet and am aware of some of the default ATCs short comings, but recently, I have been experimenting with SIDS and STARS and what I have noticed is that if you create a flight plan, even using FS's default flight planning software, is that if you program the intersections for a SID into the flight plan, ATC will not give you any directions except to resume normal navigation once handed off to departure. Now, STARS are a different story from what I see. Depending on altitude, you need to ask to descend compared to when default ATC would tell you and as you fly the SID, ATC will harp on you to fly a specific vector (all arrivals are vectored by default ATC from what I see) until you reach a certain point, usually as you turn onto final. Now I have seen people state that they fly with default ATC, but for approaches, close their IFR flight plan and just fly the SID.From what I see, default is usable to an extent, but could use some tweaking for future iterations of any flight game by MS.
  9. What does this suggestion mean to you? I am aware that you didn't change the letter of your drive. I gave the reason why you shouldn't change the drive letter.
  10. Notice that Horatio suggested that the old drive, the one with Windows and FS9 on it, be renamed D: hence the following answers: As noted above, you can move FS9 and have it run. I have even installed a new HD, installed Windows on it, reinstalled the old HD and played FS from the old drive that way, Windows will ask if you want to fix the registry when done that way even. I reiterate, if you change the drive letter of the Windows drive to something other than C:, your PC will have problems. If you change a drive name to C: with no Windows install on it, your PC will not boot.
  11. I was referring to changing the drive letter and not just moving the FS9 install. Changing the drive letter would cause problems as when you boot up the PC, it will look for a Windows install on C: drive. If no Windows, no boot.
  12. You would be surprised where Flash is turning up, like in Unreal based games, at least for the UI.
  13. The true irony is I used to be a jet engine/helicopter mechanic. While I do miss flying in my beloved Phrogs, I don't miss the whine. It is even worse at the test cell without a hush house involved.
  14. Having seen the Thunderbirds and the Blue Angel's flying F-4s, I can attest that they are loud, but in my experience, whether it be the F-4, F-15, F-16, F/A-18 or the F-22, they are all comparable in loudness and yes, I have seen them all flying at one time or another. One could even argue that the C-5M is loud, especially as it flies over your head on climbout just seconds after leaving the ground. That really did hurt these tired ears.Radial engined aircraft cannot be compared in loudness, but just on sound alone. I feel they have a better sound compared to a turbine engine's whine.
  15. I saw the original press release and video back then. That is the only information released by MS on Flight so far. The "press" from other gaming sites is speculation, even though the little blurb about social gaming is there. It is not specifically stated that Flight will be browser based or that it will be specifically aimed at those who frequent social networks. The press released does state that long time fans will like what is released, but even then, that can be taken with a grain of salt. If anyone here knows about Flight, they are keeping what they know close to the vest and laugh about the erroneous speculation until MS does release more information as I stated above.
  16. Your are right, the answer is no as you would mess up the registry entries for other programs and most of all, Windows.
  17. I found a page about the air fields used by the 9th Air Force (not the 8th like I previously stated though the 8th had fighters too) in the ETO. IX Engineer Command has all sorts of information on what the air fields were constructed from, lengths and widths along with locations.
  18. Create your own. I made a dirt strip in New Guinea for the MAAM B25 to fly from. I did a bit of research as to where strips would be located and made them with Lee Swordy's AFCAD2.2 program. I am sure the 8th Air Force had fighter strips in France once the Germans were pushed back far enough to allow for strips to be built.
  19. Maybe I am misinterpreting what you are saying, but I have to bring something up. You appear to say that MS gets a smaller amount when someone buys FS cheaper than what early adopters buy it. MS got their full cut. As retailers have to pay for their product and that MS (or any other business entity save for specific stores) doesn't do consignment sales. Best Buy, Wal-Mart and the like all have to pay MS for the product, either on delivery or within the month after delivery. If anyone loses money on a sale, it would be the retailer.Still, anything anyone comes up with about Flight is all speculation as to how it will be played, whom it is aimed at or what features it will have. Until MS states what will be included, everyone, including gaming websites, will be wrong.
  20. A slightly better way of creating AI flight plans would be to use AI Traffic Mover by Thomas Molitor. It is a cool program with lots of neat stuff in it.
  21. I will try to help you out.AC#2184,N892AT,1%,WEEK,IFR,1/02:00,@1/03:55,370,F,0147,KDTW,1/10:00,@1/11:55,340,F,0252,KATL,1/12:35,@1/14:21,350,F,0444,KBWI,AC#2184 is the aircraft found in the AircraftXXXX.txt file It tells which aircraft to use for this flight.N892AT = aircraft registration number.1% = how often the flight appears.WEEK = frequency of the flight, this flight is a daily flight, flights can also be specific days using 0-6 to specify the day and can even be flown on a particular hour frequency such as 2H, 4H 12H or 24H.IFR = This is the type of flight, either VFR or IFR1/02:00,@1/03:55 = 1 is the day of the week, in this case, Monday and it departs the departure airport at 02:00 UTC and @1/03:55 is the arrival time on Monday UTC.370 = flight level in hundreds of feet, in this case 37,000 feet.F = ATC uses flight number instead of registration ® or tail number of aircraft.0147 = flight number.KDTW = arrival airport. The next flight will depart from KDTW and go to KATL at the times listed before it using the flight level and flight numbers for that leg and will continue on for that particular plan which could have many legs for that one AC. The last airport is typically the original departure airport for the first leg of the flight plan.
  22. Who makes the Embraer 145 that you are referring to? Which other planes? Have you tried using the default FS9 L key to turn the lights on?
  23. Ever since I saw that skit, I listen for the cowbell (yes, it really is in there) even though I have been listening to BOC for years. i even saw them in concert, way back when.
  24. I wouldn't put it past MS to charge for a browser based game. They just upped the cost of XBox Live to $60 a year, they tried to get PC gamers to pay for Games For Windows Live (and failed). However, right now, I want to chalk this up as rampant speculation on the writers part and everyone else's. MS hasn't release much information about MS Flight yet and it will be a while before they do from the looks of things.
