  1. Yes, I am using HDR and my AA is set to FXAA Robert
  2. A little update: I was able to get Anisotropic filtering working by setting it directly in the Nvidia control panel. I set it to 16x instead of application-controlled and now it is working in X-Plane. If you have an Nvidia graphics card, try setting Anisotropic filtering directly in the Nvidia control panel to 16x and see if it works...the setting in X-Plane doesn't work for some reason (at least for myself and the above posters).
  3. Hello, I am having an issue with the Anisotropic filtering setting in XP10 and am wondering if anyone has a solution. I have the anisotropic filtering setting set to 16x, but textures look extremely blurry when viewed from the side. As an example, the side of the default C172 looks crisp and sharp when viewed straight on, but as I rotate the view towards the nose or tail, the textures become increasingly blurry. Another example: When I am in the 3D cockpit on a runway, the runway textures look very blurry and not sharp at all. If I look straight down in the external view, the runway textures are very crisp. The anisotropic filtering setting is not doing anything at all for me. It doesn't matter if I set it to 1x or 16x...it has no effect. In my Nvidia control panel, I have Anisotropic filtering set to application controlled. Thanks for any help, Robert
  4. I also have controls disabled in FSX and use FSUIPC exclusively. OS is Windows 8.1 Pro. Everything seems to work perfectly...no issues with control surfaces, autothrottle, or autopilot. Robert Deichert
  5. Personally, I position the viewpoint so I can see the MCP and the entirety of the LCD displays on the captain's side. This generally means moving the viewpoint up two notches, back two notches, and to the right until I can see the entire MCP. I then pan the viewpoint down until I can just see the bottom edges of the LCD displays. This way, my view looks like a traditional 2D panel view, but it is in the VC. I then use the built in view presets for the overhead and pedestal.

  7. Just out of curiosity, will there be a separate flap sound when you are in the wing view? Thanks,Robert Deichert
  8. Newer boeing aircraft (such as the 787, 777, and 747-8) use raked wingtips instead of traditional winglets that we are used to seeing. I'm not sure exactly what the benefits are over traditional winglets, but below is a link to a wikipedia article on raked wingtips.http://en.wikipedia....e#Raked_wingtipIn this picture, you can see the raked wingtip at the end of the wing: http://www.aerospaceweb.org/aircraft/jetliner/b767/b767_13.jpgRobert Deichert
  9. Personally, I fly using a combination of the VC and 2D. My main cockpit view is in the VC, and I manually adjust the cockpit viewpoint so it is facing the main panel, and it actually looks like a 2D panel, but it is 3D and in the VC. I then use the 2D panels for the overhead, pedestal, etc. Or, if the developer has provided built in views for the overhead and pedestal (like the JS4100), then I will use those viewpoints for the other panels.
  10. A PC with the same specs will perform identically. Boot Camp is nothing more than a tool that allows you to partition your hard drive, you are creating another partition. You then boot into the Windows install dvd just like you would on a PC, and install Windows onto that partition. When you turn on your computer, you select which OS to boot into. It is a multi-boot setup.
  11. My main machine is a Mac Pro, and the only relatively recent Nvidia card available is the GTX 285. Thanks for the information. Yes, I do run other games. I have read that the HD5870 is roughly equivalent, in terms of performance, to the GTX 285. I am not sure if that is true or if it applies here. Thanks again,Robert Deichert
  12. Hi Guys,I posted about this in the Video Hardware forum as well, but I thought it might be worth asking about in the PMDG forum too, especially since the NGX seems to be right around the corner.Would it be a good idea to upgrade from a Radeon HD 5770 to either a Radeon HD5870 or Nvidia Geforce GTX 285? Those are my only choices. The HD 5770 card struggles to deliver good performance when in bad weather. Spec-wise, both the 5870 and GTX 285 are better than my 5770, but would it be worth upgrading to either one of those? Would the Nvidia card perform better in poor weather situations? Thanks for any suggestions,Robert Deichert
  13. Hi Guys,One thing I forgot to mention in my original post is the reason I can only get the HD 5870 or the GTX 285 is because I am running a Mac Pro system, with Windows 7 x64 installed on its own partition with FSX. Right now, the only cards available with Mac firmware that are better than my 5770 are the GTX 285 and the HD 5870. My big complaint with the 5770 is the horrible performance slowdown when flying in dense clouds. I have heard that, in general, Nvidia cards don't suffer from this problem. Also, the 285, although a few years old, seems like it is a bit faster than the 5770 and might be worth upgrading to. If anyone has any thoughts, please let me know. I can sell my current HD 5770 for about $200 on ebay, so I might be able to get a used Mac GTX 285 for a relatively inexpensive price after the $200 from selling my HD 5770.Thanks again,Robert
  14. Hi Guys,I currently have an ATI Radeon HD 5770 card with 1GB RAM. I am noticing that, under heavy weather and cloud conditions, my FPS suffer quite significantly. I would like to upgrade my graphics card to hopefully get rid of this performance drop in cloudy conditions in FSX. The two cards I can choose from are the ATI Radeon HD 5870, or the Nvidia GTX 285. I would like to mention that I have been running FSX on this ATI 5770 for a few months now, and I am completely happy with the video quality. I am fine with multi-sampling AA, and do not need anything better. With that in mind, which card should I go for? I know that the 5870 is a newer card, and according to the specs it should be quite a bit faster, but is that still true when talking about FSX performance? Which card will give me better performance (and little to no performance drop in cloudy situations), keeping in mind that I am sticking with multi-sampling AA and won't use super-sampling?Also, I do play other games on this machine. They aren't the most graphically intense games, but I do use this system for things other than FSX. Things like Civilization V, The Sims 3, Live for Speed, and some others. One more thing - I can only upgrade to the GTX 285 or the HD 5870. Those are, unfortunately, my only two options at this point. Thanks for the help,Robert Deichert
  15. Hi Bruce,I am using Safari version 5 on my mac. I also tested the new site on my iPad running iOS 4 along with Safari and it is loading fine over there as well.Robert
