  1. Hello Kyle, Yes, I do use FSUIPC to calibrate some axes (including throttle ones), no camera add-ons at all. Could FSUIPC be causing the issue?
  2. Good afternoon gents, Unfortunately I've had the same issue just happen again. This time it happened with a panel state that I created starting from the default, totally powered plane (a replica of the Short one).No strange EICAS warnings, did the start process normally but when I was going to taxi, engines stuck at idle. I recorded a video but as it's heavy (almost 1 GB) I'll upload it once I get back from work. Guess I'll have to submit a ticket then? Kind regards,
  3. Hello Saman, Indeed. Today I ran the simulator again and the engines responded as expected. After doing some research I also read that once an update is installed, PMDG-created panel states can become corrupt, which means that it'd be best to load the plane with the default one, manually configure it to match the desired state, save it and continue using that one. Since the update, I've seen two yellow messages on the EICAS that would remain there and even though I am aware they can be cleared, they shouldn't appear all of a sudden; these are >BODY GEAR STRG and FUEL RES XFR 4 . These were reported on another topic and one of the work-arounds was to create a new panel state, which I will do once I get back home. Regards,
  4. Good afternoon / evening folks, This morning I experienced something strange on my 747. First let me note that a few minutes prior to the incident I had run the Operations Center and updated the tool, and also the plane itself through said program. Both updates appeared as a prompt / alert on OC. Don't know if that could have caused an issue as I have never had this before. After updating, I was trying to run a very short flight (load the short stop panel state while parked at a gate, run a preflight, power the plane and perform a traffic pattern). However, after starting the engines as per checklists, they were completely unresponsive. I could see the white "dash" (?) (or I could call it the target thrust indicator?) on the EICAS engine N1 indicator move up and down and also the thrust levers did move physically, but thrust would remain at idle. Tried both with the hardware (Saitek Pro Flight Yoke + 1 Throttle Quadrant) and also with the keyboard (F2/F3) but no thrust change or spool up sound at all. Did I do something wrong or maybe did the update corrupt something? I have to admit though that I did not restart the simulator and try again because I was about to leave for work, will try once I get back home. I also tried searching on forums to avoid a double post but didn't find this same scenario, so even if it ends up being a silly mistake by myself or a possible bug, it could help anyone who might experience this in the future.   5. Hello Rhett, Thank you for the info! I wasn't aware of the QVL. December 11's update seems to be for 2133MHz kits only. However, the first one (September 25's) includes them all, and the kit I am aiming towards is on the list, so I would be okay to go! Regards, Jhon
  6. Good afternoon folks, I have a small doubt about RAM memory. I am planning to upgrade my PC by the end of this month, so I'd bemoving from a 4770K (never overclocked) to an 8700K which I plan to overclock using a Corsair H100i v2. The mobo would be most likely an ASUS Maximus X Hero (WiFi). My real doubt comes to the RAM memory: I was thinking about the Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) 3200MHz, CL15 (CMK16GX4M2B3200C15), but its description reads "Designed for high-performance overclocking on Intel 100 Series motherboards", while the 8th-Gen Maximus X Hero belongs to the 300 Series. Would I possibly have compatibility issues or is that information merely advisory? Lastly, would these memory sticks do the trick? I do want a decent set (which I think this one is), but don't expect to purchase a top of the line one as it'd exceed my budget. I chose Corsair and this model in particular because it's one of the very few that are available at physical stores in my country. I don't really want to import them as it'd take longer and in case of a return it'd become a pain in the neck. Do you guys think this set is okay for my setup? I want to do a "moderate" overclock and go as far as my cooling and the processor itself allow, as I don't want to fry a brand-new 8700K. Thanks in advance!   8. Hello mikealpha, I am curious about a monitor upgrade (aside from a full PC upgrade, of course), and was searching, precisely, for a 43" 4K TV adapted as a monitor. Is yours a dedicated PC monitor or a TV adapted as such? If it is a monitor, how much did you pay for it? Could you please share the model? Thanks in advance!
  9. Well, correct me if I'm wrong but I think this applies to almost any consumer-oriented product, doesn't it? For example: cellphones, vehicles even, etc. Of course, there will be some exceptions but most likely you won't see a substantial change from one generation / model to the immediately next. Plus, realistically speaking, if one does an important investment in a high-end computer, for example, and it performs really well, one won't be planning to upgrade as soon as the next models of hardware release unless there was really a substantial increase in performance. Again, there are exceptions, but personally once I upgrade my computer I plan to keep it for a good 3 or 4 years. I've read here from people who has kept their machines for more than that (3rd / 4th generation) and are still happy with them, hesitating to upgrade.
  10. Well, for the time being I will rely on you guys for reviews once those of you who ordered the processor start receiving it. If it's out of stock in the first-world countries, it will take a while for them to be here (at least a month or two being optimistic). That will give me some extra time to save, as I am also planning to buy a motorcycle—that investment would be 6x what the PC upgrade costs. I will stay tuned.
  11. Don't get me wrong guys (I had a feeling I was saying something wrong when writing that reply anyway haha). I didn't mean to say DDR3 is obsolete, it is just that if I am to upgrade (I eventually will anyway), the most convenient case for me would be choosing DDR4 as I could migrate it to basically any further system in a short-mid term. It will be a while until DDR5 comes out and becomes a standard leaving DDR4 aside. Regarding the processor, thanks for clarifying that—that should've been a question rather than a statement—as I thought that its age affected overclocking negatively. I could do that option as well, but at this point I honestly prefer to upgrade for the added performance. As you see, I only upgrade once every 3-4 years (or even longer), so a refresh in my opinion is just "about time". Lastly, my plan is to build a second computer with the parts I already have and give it to my parents, so they can have entertainment on their spare time other than just watching TV—yes, I don't let anyone touch my computer when I'm not home. I could buy them a budget computer and keep mine, but with an upgrade both sides would be benefited. Regards!
  12. Well, I also think my 4770K works nicely. However, I'm running it at stock speeds (never overclocked it) and I am not going to overclock an almost 4 years old processor. At this point, it starts basically bottlenecking my system (not only because of the flight simulator but any other videogame or background programs); this keeping in mind that I'm going to stay with FSX for a while, which is even more CPU-hungry than P3D. Also, I want to upgrade my RAM memory from 8 to 16 GB thinking ahead to a future migration to P3D v4, but in order to do so I'd need to purchase a full set of 2x8 GB as I have right now 2x4. As of now I consider it is not worth it to invest in DDR3 memory anymore. Then, I have an excuse to upgrade: latest generation CPU / motherboard / RAM. Going from a stock 4770K to an overclocked 7700K/8700K and twice the RAM memory will give me a notable performance increase, I suppose.

  14. I still haven't quite understood this part. I have read that on Coffee Lake the single-core turbo goes up to 4.7 GHz and all-core goes up to 4.3 GHz. What does that mean? Does it mean that ONE of the physical cores (core 0 I guess?) can be pushed to 4.7 GHz while the others together top at 4.3, or does it mean that the 4.7 GHz could be reached only of all remaining 5 cores were disabled? (Which in practice wouldn't be possible or smart at all, would it?) I really am unaware if each core can have a different clock speed at a determined time or if they are always linked together.
  15. Haha, if that's the case then let it be! Only pain would be that I'd need to re-purchase addons such as PMDG planes (which I fly 98% of the time), but that's an investment I will do eventually. Bad thing about hardware is that as I live in Colombia, everything is more expensive than official pricing due to taxes / importing. I'd have to add around $100 on top of the official retail prices.
  16. That's a good point. It being hexa-core adds performance improvements over the paper and future games could take advantage of it. Also they'd be useful for external applications parallel to the sim. Regarding overclocking, later on I plan to get a decent water cooler, maybe a Corsair H115i or H105 at least. Ironic, isn't it? By this time we should be miles ahead. I'll wait for reports and see. As long as the difference between both sets of hardware doesn't exceed ~200-250 USD, I'd go for 8th gen. Otherwise, 7th.
  17. Hello guys. I'm planning to do an upgrade: right now I have an almost-4-years-old i7 4770K (never overclocked), an ASUS Z87-PRO mobo and 8GB of RAM DDR3. I will keep my videocard as it is an MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X which I bought less than a year ago. I was thinking about an i7 7700K, 16GB RAM DDR4 and a fancy ASUS ROG Motherboard (Maximus Hero, most likely), but I've been keeping track of the upcoming i7 8700K (October 5th). I understand it is too soon and not possible to come to any conclusion yet, but just wanted some advice. I could do the upgrade this week but prefer to wait until the 8700K is released for two reasons: first, to see if the upgrade directly to it is worth it once its first users report their performance (as it will be obviously more expensive) and second, if it's not, to see if the 7700K's price drops a bit. I've read many positive reviews about this processor and its overclocking capabilities. I'm not concerned about the chipset because even if I go for the 8700K and Z370, by the time I do a further upgrade most likely another chipset will be already released (I plan to keep the computer for 3-4 years before upgrading). I use FSX-SE and will stay with it for a while, as moving to P3D implies to invest a good amount in re-purchasing addons. Do you guys think this is wise? Thank you in advance! Also, this topic can be used once the 8th generation is released to report performance related to FSX / P3D.

Release of QOTSII motivated me to finally read all four Type Rating Courses released with the first Queen of the Skies for FS9, and I consider it is VERY useful familiarizing and training material aimed to obtain the best experience possible from the simulation. I was wondering: haven't you guys thought about updating existing ones / releasing more volumes? On the fourth one a fifth was mentioned (about different approach types) but never released. It would be awesome to carry on with this documentation in order to master some techniques in the Queen and discover some "quirks" that are not evident just out of the box or on FCOMs / QRH!   20. Hello guys, This is a small suggestion of something I found today: I assign key commands (linked to my hardware buttons) for external lighting. The 747-400 has three positions for the beacon lights (off - center, lower - upwards and both - downwards). However, the key assignment only cycles them between lower and off. Is it possible for you to modify them so that the key commands toggles all three positions? E.g.: if they are off, one press moves it to lower, a second press down to both and a third press back to off. This is in order to reduce mouse usage to the minimum as having the cursor active greatly affects frames-per-second. Thanks in advance!
  21. UPDATE: In case anyone experiences this, I was able to solve the problem (my mistake to not have researched beforehand!). I just deleted the file "ARPT_RWY.dat" locaed in FSX/PMDG/NAVDATA. Once either aircraft is loaded it will automatically create this file again. Then I ran Pete Dowson's MakeRwys, and now the FMC properly displays procedures for runways 02/20.
  22. Hello guys, I hope you can give me a hand with this. Tonight I was trying to do a flight from my hometown (SKCL) to Bogota (SKBO), but when I entered the origin airport's ICAO code on the RTE page I received the "SKCL ERR: 02 RWY N/A" on the FMC's scratchpad. I had never seen this before, so I can't figure out why I could be receiving it. I checked the airport's procedures on the AIRAC folder (1702) and they are programmed for runway 2 indeed. As a sidenote, my hometown airport's runway numbers were changed one month ago from 01/19 to 02/20. As I have an old scenery that still has them as 01/19, I suppose this could be the cause, but I'm not sure if the FMC relies entirely on Navigraph's AIRAC information or also takes into account the airport's AFCAD / runway configuration files (if any). On the RTE page, if I enter runway 01 the plane does recognize it and displays it on the ND, but when I go to the DEP/ARR page it shows empty, as the procedures are programmed for runways 02/20. I read something in the introduction about Pete Dowson's MakeRwys but am not entirely sure how it works, nor do I know how to manually change runway numbers so they can be visible in the simulator. Can anyone please give me advice? It would be much appreciated!

We were finally able to get my Saitek Throttle Quadrant working again, now it works even better than when I purchased it (it already came with some spiking on its axes). It was a real pain as my uncle had to re-solder some wires, but it was worth it. The cleaning really did its part. Jeez, this is as if I had to do my own pre-service entry configurations (hardware-wise) in order to finally be able to take her out of the hangar! Just finished reading the introduction today, will now move on to tutorial 1. Good thing is I had the 747-400X in the past, so I am rather familiar with most procedures. Thank you for your illustration guys, much appreciated!
  24. That's a nice feature! Thanks for letting us know. Going a little bit off-topic, I was supposed to disassemble my Saitek Throttle Quadrant (separate unit) in order to clean its potentiometers and thus eliminate axis spiking. I did manage to clean them, but in the process of disassembling I accidentally removed some wires. Asked my uncle to help me solder them back, he did but as I didn't pay attention to the soldering pattern beforehand, now two of the axes are inverted, LOL. It's been very tricky but the solution is easy. Tonight he'll re-arrange the wires and I should be all set to go. Therefore, I haven't been able to properly fly the queen as I'm trying to sort hardware out first. I have been, however, reading the introduction (only 30 pages left now) during my spare time at work. Once I finish, I'll start reading the tutorial. Hopefully by tonight I'll have everything ready to start enjoying the power of those four engines; I'll let you guys know how it goes. Thank you for your replies!
  25. Hello Bob, Thank you for your response! Now everything is more clear to me. I tried the document you highlighted and the results were pretty satisfactory. Nonetheless, on my Saitek throttle quadrant (separate unit) there is a lot of axis spiking, which means that sometimes the calibrating (Sync position) tool doesn't work as intended, as the output of the lever movements is always different on every full up/down cycle. Tonight as I get back home I will try and clean the potentiometers, well know to be bad quality from Saitek. Anyway I've had both units for almost 5 years now and never cleaned them, so I'll see how they behave after a cleaning. Thanks!
