  1. Did you have a look at the <detailed tutorial flight> which you can download from majesticsoftware.com/mjc8q400? This is a very good, albeit basic tutorial flight from Toronto to Newark. VNAV is explained on page 49. Jan Peter van Kempen
  2. But seriously, Ben. The interaction between student and instructor is very nice: casual, but informative. Keep up the good job! Jan Peter van Kempen
  3. Great videos about a wonderful plane. Looking forward to the F/O training program (I hope however Ben will not say "no problem" all the time in the next set of videos :( ). Jan Peter van Kempen
  4. Hi there,I have a short little question for you guys out there: what are the differences between the GE, PW and RR engines? TOPCAT gives only data for the GE variant. Maybe the differences are too subtle to replicate in desktop flight simulation, but still...Jan Peter van Kempen
  5. Pawel,Maybe this will help?http://www.boeing.com/commercial/airports/acaps/md11sec3.pdfOtherwise I could recommend TopCat!Jan Peter
  6. More often than not I manage to completely f*** up a perfectly good flight on final approach (you know: "AutoLand is for lozers; let me show you how to hand-fly this baby"). Anyhow, the other day I had my MD11 perfectly under control at finals at MWCR, Grand Cayman, rwy 08. The runway is a mere 7000ft long, so I was concentrating to hit the asphalt on the piano keys. Then, all of a sudden, out of the blue (or rather out of FSX autogen) trees show up just outside the perimeter of the airport. I panic, try to pull up, dive onto the rwy and end up in the bay, which is at the 26 end of the airport.Lesson learned: next time ignore autogen.Jan Peter
  7. I don't know if Bueller is into flightsimming (he might be, but I would advise more than just one day off ;-)).Anyhow, I know the feeling. For years I used to fly into and out off EHAM all the time, because that's where I live (nice scenery though at http://www.nl-2000.com/nuke/). Some time ago I started on a flight around the world project with short-haul legs (no more than 1000nm, preferably 500-750nm). Part of the fun was planning (http://www.gcmap.com/ and http://rfinder.asalink.net/free/) and searching for charts and scenery. All flights of course with real weather. Allready I made two world-trips and it is highly addicting. Here are a few of my favourites.TNCM, St Maarten (especially with FlyTampa scenery): short runway, no ILS but DME Arc approach with beach on one end and mountains on the other end of the runway.LPMA, Madeira (Aerosoft scenery); also a short runway with no straight in approach because of mountainous area.KLAS, Las Vegas: nice scenery at nightKJFK, New York: have a look at the advanced tutorial of PMDG.RJFU, Nagasaki (Beautiful payware scenery at http://www.overland.co.jp/english/sms/download.html); a lot airports in Japan are located on (artificial) islands.VMMC, Macau: feels like landing at an aircraft carrier.VHHX, Hong Kong Kai Tak: just pretend it is still there (http://aviation.narain.com/9dragons/index.html).RKSI, Seoul: stay out of North Korean airspace.I could go on and on, but like I said: these are just a few of my favs. I dubbed my latest "project": Follow the President. Allthough this calls for Air Force One (PMDG 747) it is not against the law to use the MD11. The idea is to pay a visit to all the 50 states in alphabetical order. I just started this trip. First I took Marine One (VH-71 repaint for fsx) from the White House to KADW. From there to Alabama: KMXF (DME Arc) and next Alaska: PAJN (tricky approach:visual rwy 08). Tomorrow I will be heading for Arizona KPHX.CheersJan Peter van Kempen
  8. Ken,I already tried that without success. Fiddling around with FSUIPC was also unsuccessfull. I blamed it on my CH pedals being worn-out after many flight-hours, LOL. Nevertheless, I think it is a CH problem.Jan Peter
  9. I am experiencing the same problem, but I can not find a post with the relevant solution. With the PMDG 747 autobrakes appear to working OK.Jan Peter
  10. How about this:http://www.flyaoamedia.com/blog/pmdg-747-training/I can really recommend this in any language.Jan Peter
  11. I would definitely get SSD's (one for Win7 and one for FSX) and leave the other Hard Disk for all your other stuff (like FS2004). Maybe a bit too much RAM.Cheers Jan Peter
  12. Remy,You could try this, it has been posted before:http://rfinder.asalink.net/free/It is free! If you want te spend some money (not a lot) I can recommend Flightsim Commander 9. I use this a lot.Jan Peter
  13. Quality has its price! Honestly: divide the price by the number of hours of fun and see what the costs per hour are compared to, say, a night out at the pub.Cheers Jan Peter
  14. It is lying on the beach at MWCR (FSX) after overshooting the runway. Who planted those #@*&%! trees almost on threshold of RW08? They 're not even palm trees! Well, at least it stopped raining.Jan Peter :-))
  15. I had another close look at the video. Now I know what you mean. I have never witnessed this before, but then again I have never been in the jumpseat of an airliner during takeoff before either. But now that I have seen this, I want it too!Cheers, Jan Peter
  16. What a great tv-documentary! I just completed my own RTW trip in fs2004/fsx with about 35 legs. Great fun.Concerning the landing lights in FS: maybe this is of interest to you:http://www.a2asimulations.com/store/shockwavelights/Cheers,Jan Peter van Kempen
  17. :( boys will be boys...How 'bout completing the picture with some good old-fashioned nose art?Cheers,Jan Peter
  18. Thanks. I think that pretty much sums up my struggles.JP
  19. I quite agree. Even in real-life aircraft aren't bugfree. I've been flying in the virtual sky for quite some time now: remember FS for the Commodore 64 back in the eighties? In those days products like the MD-11 belonged to the realm of fantasy. I think PMDG is doing a very good job. The only real problems I encountered had to do with Windows Vista (yes, the dreaded OOM error).Jan Peter van Kempen
  20. How about missed approaches? More often than not I experienced an AI aircraft lining up for take-off with me being on finals (I'm not using the less than perfect ATC within FS, but added a lot of goodies from World of AI). Things will have to happen very quickly, but I am not sure whether I am using the proper procedures.Keep up the good work. I am going RTW with kinda short legs (LOL).Jan Peter van Kempen
