  1. Hi all, Well what a year, and where do I start! Well I guess from the beginning of the year and work through. So many thanks must go to:- PMDG for the 737NGX great plane! the other's I got the year before! A2A for emptying my wallet, when I discovered their wonderful aircraft after looking for a change from commercial jets..........Ended up buying the Cub, Spitfire, P51 Mustang and the Boeing Stratocruiser all with Accusim. Damn it why are they so enjoyable! REX for producing well REX and then upgrading it free of charge to REXEssentials, what amazing weather and great improvement over the original with regards download times and so on. Then I went and discovered UK2000 Scenery, when I wanted my local airfield at Bruntingthorpe in FSX ended up with VFR 1,2 and 3 Plus Birmingham and East Midlands Extreme. Great scenery, thanks Gary. Then I discovered FlyTampa, mmmm Hong Kong and Dubai rebooted, stunning scenery another thankyou to them. I then went and treated myself to a Saitek Yoke, rudder pedals and Throttle quadrant, after many years with a joystick............So a huge big thankyou to Peter Dowson for FSUIPC because the Saitek software was so poor and didn't work even after a week. Pete got me up and running within a day. Lastly to everyone on here at AVSIM who make FlightSimming so worth while, I never realised this hobby could be so time consuming or so enjoyable. Especially thanks go to Jim Firehawk44, for your help, Jim Hodge001 for your help with the Carenado Cessna 208 door manager and the Cerasim Bell222 door manager..........Still working great! also to all the talented people who make freeware aircraft, there are some real good ones out there and I just love the talent they show in them. Ask me next year and I hope to say a Quality Wings 146, Maybe PMDG 777 and DC6 and looking forward to the Just Flight Lockheed Tristar..... Thanks to everyone, and may we have many more years of great simming ahead of us. Happy New Year to all developers and all the AVSIM members. Thanks so much :p0504:
  2. Hi Andreas, Your dead right, getting the best from FSX is more about trying one thing at a time and if it doesn't work then go back and try something else! I'm very happy with the way FSX runs on my set up especially when alot here seem to be complaining about there much more powerful set ups running slowly. Yesterday I did 7 1/2 hrs in the PMDG MD11 from Honolulu to Mexico City with REX set on max and real world weather, and FSX ran as sweet as a nut, even over the land when it was getting dark, which usually would slow things down a little! Ok the frames per second weren't huge at the end of the flight but the image was smooth, which as you say is what is most important! I might have to put the Flightsim labs Concorde on a future wish list, as there are a few aircraft already there first lol, PMDG 777 while I try to say I won't buy it, I know I will eventually and their DC6 too, Just Flight are doing a Tristar too, which no doubt will come out first, PMDG take forever! I guess it depends if I will actually use Concorde enough to warrant buying it? Such dilemma's we face!! Anyway Happy Flying, Regards,
  3. Hi Andreas, mmmm Your tempting me, lol. I've read it's very good, system wise, which is always a preference when I'm looking to buy an aircraft! What's it like for fps and slowing your pc down with all those systems it has? I run an i3 with fsx, utx, gex and rex essentials and get reasonable fps of 20 over europe. At present over the pacific in the MD11 cloudy and getting 29fps so I know it depends where you are. mmmm I wonder if you have any PMDG aircraft as that's what I tend to use as a bench mark? Happy flying,
  4. Hi all, Nice shots, I like the second one  Although Concorde was an amazing aircraft, it's one I have always avoided in flight sim, not sure why, maybe I didn't feel we did it justice, some wonders are best left wonders!. I guess your flying the FlightSimLabs Concorde? Do you think I am missing out on something wonderful in FSX? Happy Flying,
  5. Hi all, I was just watching the video of Flight401 Eastern Airlines Tristar. Then realised I've heard about this before somewhere. If I remember rightly, didn't they end up removing most of the parts that had been re-used from flight 401 because the crews saw too many ghostly sightings and nobody liked flying those aircraft until the parts had been replaced? Great story, Happy flying,
  6. Hi all, I agree with the above comments, play around with the profile for FSX in TrackIR5 and learn how the curves affect the movement of your head in relation to the movement in the sim. Smoothing works well too! Only time I don't switch it on is checking new skins and repaints, occasionally I tried flying without TrackIR5 when I've just installed a freeware plane and just want a quick spin round the circuit but it's so difficult after using TrackIR5. I really can't fly without it and that's in FSX too.
  7. Hi John, I think in the PMDG manual for the MD11 it says somewhere that the MD11 is designed to fly from takeoff to landing with the autothrottle engaged all the time.....................I understand what your saying John but wouldn't the pitch protection system not work if the autothrottle wasn't engaged? Also what about the speed protection system on the flaps, surely you need the autothrottle to slow the aircraft down only when the correct flap setting is selected as it shouldn't slow down until then! Only my observations, I have tried flying it with manual throttles, and I'm sure it's something real crews are able to do but that's how I understand things are supposed to work. Happy flying,
  8. Hi all, I have TrackIR and I have to say I couldn't fly without it. That's not just boasting but I really couldn't. It is so intuitive to look around the cockpit like you would in real life! Whether it be flying heavies, slow GA aircraft or WWll Fighters. Ok I admit it doesn't like sunshine, but they tell you that in the instructions. I have my Proclip, clipped onto a cheap set of headphones with the speakers taken out, just leaving the earpads, makes the headset nice and light too! Worth persevering with honest. Happy flying.
  9. Hi all, The MD11 autoflight controls are cancelled by clicking the button on the Yoke, this however only cancels the lateral settings, the Autothrottle can only be disengaged by pressing the button on the Throttle for engine number 1. This is because the MD11 is designed to be flown throughout it's flight with Autothrottle engaged!. Manual throttle inputs are not expected during normal flight, as far as I understand it. Oh and don't use the disconnect button under the autoflight one, like in a 737 as that disconnects other stuff you wouldn't want to disconnect!!!! Hope this helps. Happy flying,
  10. Hi, Thanks for confirming my suspicions Jessica. I think it's great that people involved in developing these products are happy to discuss things with those of us waiting to use/purchase those same products. Obviously there are some things they wouldn't be able to talk about, but great that they are open and upfront with others. Looking forward to see this Tristar close up! Happy Flying
  11. Hi all, Reading through the comments here, I'm just wondering if there is somebody from the development team for the Just Flight Tristar reading these posts? Or maybe somebody is just talking like they wish they were? Hopefully the former, as it would be nice to think that a developer reads and responds to questions put to them.............Makes those product just that little bit more exciting! Happy flying,
  12. MMMmmmmmm I understood that you get the manuals when you buy the plane................free! So why would you buy a printed set? Just a thought. Happy flying!
  13. Hi rcboffa. Thanks for the response, Yeah I know about the freeware ceva carousel INS that's available I have been working on fitting it to my freeware Tristar, the Eurolines one with the DC10 VC done by Ricardo_TV. Hence the reason for being so excited about this announcement! Well got it all working, so just trying a few test flights when Justflight go and make this announcement, I think they must have heard me, lol. Happy Flying,
  14. Can I add the Justflight Tristar to my list please? Not because it's justflight but because it's an fsx Tristar. Thanks.
  15. Hi all, Is it true? Only the other day I was posting on here wishing some developer out there would produce a good FSX Tristar.............It would appear dreams do come true! I like the preview video, and those flashing lights on the INS panel just beg the question, is that going to be a working Inertial Navigation System installed on the flightdeck? Well it looks good, I hope it flies as good as it looks. Looks like I might be buying a JustFlight plane after all! Looking forward to happy flying!
  16. Hi all, What a list, Mine would be:- PMDG DC6............Maybe Boeing 777 not sure yet! Am I the odd one out here? And if anyone is looking for a new product to develop, would somebody please make a PMDG quality Lockheed L1011 Tristar! Instead of lots of developer's doing B737's and Airbus 320's etc why doesn't someone alter course and make something we can't get from somewhere else!.......Sorry just an opinion. Ok that's my rather short list. Happy flying,
  17. Hi Fritz, Ok you have me there, I understand to do that you need to be a whizz with BGL files, and that isn't me. I had to compromise and use a small 2d pop up, but I have a second monitor so drag it into there to keep the main view clear of clutter! Like you I really prefer to fly souly from the VC and all controls work from there. Thanks for the info, I will check out aerosim's site when I get a chance. In the mean time, Happy flying,
  18. Hi Fritz, The carousel INS is a freeware product but everything works as it should, I think it's the one flightsim labs use in their ConcordeX. I don't know enough to try to get it working in the VC so had to make a small pop-up 2d window but haven't experimented much with it as yet.............got as far as initial position and programming waypoints into it. Need to give it some more time! You can get it here, http://www.simufly.com/ins/index.html
  19. Hi all, Yep my fsx cfg file is as Microsoft intended, except for the following "HIGHMEMFIX=1" "TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=4096" "WIDEVIEWASPECT=TRUE" and I think I get pretty good performance out of fsx and my pc................I tried Bojote's tweaking tool once and promptly got rid of it! happy flying,
  20. Hi JonnyGR4, So everybody has been throwing their own pennies worth into the pot. I'm wondering how your getting on now? I was just looking through your fsx cfg file you posted on here, well above lol and I noticed a couple of things that are recommended tweaks. I see you have the "HIGHMEMFIX=1" in the cfg file that's always recommended. I also noticed you have "TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=1024" if you want to see high resolution textures in your fsx you should have this set to "TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=4096" I notice from your cfg file you have PMDG 737NGX installed, if you look at the introduction manual that came with it there are a list of recommended settings for fsx...........One being this change I have just mentioned. Also I know you said you had REX installed, well you won't see those lovely high resolution clouds unless you change this. You have to watch this change though, because I have found that periodically fsx changes it back to 1024 without telling you, I think it's when you make major changes!! I see as well you have "UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=30" you should have the frame rate limit set to "UNLIMITED" you can do this in your fsx set up screen as I am not 100% sure this is the same line in the cfg file. I'm not sure why this works as it does, but my fsx improved no end when I changed this. You would think having frame rates set to unlimited would make your pc divert all it's resources to drawing lots of fps instead of flying the plane, but it doesn't seem to! I think having it set to 30fps the pc works harder governing exactly 30fps instead of fluctuating as and when it has spare processing power. Also I see you have "WIDEVIEWASPECT=FALSE" if your using a wide screen monitor you really ought to have this set to "WIDEVIEWASPECT=TRUE" changing this stops all your cockpit views and gauges from becoming slightly oval shaped or looking squashed as fsx tries to fill the wider screen with what would normally be seen in a normal ratio monitor (4:3) I think. Lastly I noticed "WATER_EFFECTS=6" mmmmm well I have never had this set any higher than 2 sometimes even 1, there isn't much point going as high as 6, I would have thought, it makes your pc work far harder drawing all those nice waves which you can't see at 30,000ft............I guess it depends on what kind of flying you like to do? One other thing I just thought of, regarding your stuttering pictures. Is this something which happens all the time or just every few minutes? REX when it downloads the current weather during a flight makes the picture stutter a bit on my pc too, but only during the weather download process..............Alternatively if it's doing it all the time I had similar when I tried DX10 which didn't work at all on my PC. I also had similar happenings when I played around with the filtering in the settings page and whether or not you have "Anti-Aliasing" set in fsx or set in your graphics card setup..............Just simple settings can make all the difference and you just have to try each thing until you find what works best for your system. Well I hope these tweaks help someway. I'am not a computer whizz, so forgive some of my technical terms and phrases, which some here list, but I just know what works for me and if I can pass on anything to you which helps then I am only too happy to help. Let me know how you get on, Happy flying,
  21. Hi Fritz, Thanks for those details, mmmmm interesting I might have to look into this more. Can you get the Aerosim Tristar still? .... either payware or freeware, or did it become the Perfect flight version? I'll troll the internet and find out. Oh do you have the Carousel working INS set up on your Tristar, just asking out of curiosity? Happy flying,
  22. Hi RCITGuy, Yeah your right, when I installed FSX last time, when I changed Windows7 to 64bit I had alot of issues trying to install GEX afterwards. mmmmm "Kept coming up with unable to find path to FSX" off the top of my head. Anyway someone suggested installing FSX directly on the C Drive and I did that, but then realised the problems were caused by not installing SP1 and SP2 correctly, hahaha forgot to restart the PC after installing each service pack lol. Thing is I left FSX on the C drive and all works and I haven't had any problems, so just left it there!
  23. If you wanted to try an airliner and don't want to get bogged down with alot of learning, what about the Quality Wings 757.............Great sounds too! Smaller General Aviation Planes then Carenado do great ones as someone above has already said. I have three from them, Cessna 172, single prop, Cessna 340 twin Prop and Cessna 208 Turbo prop..............although I had a problem with the door manager on this one, but there is a fix for it here somewhere.
  24. Hi, Fritz, don't you have problems with the virtual cockpit controls not working when you port over an fs9 aircraft into fsx? As I only fly in the VC I would need a working VC! Thanks for the replies anyway.
  25. Hi all, Ok just wondering if there is a good quality payware Lockheed Tristar available for fsx? It would have to have a good realistic VC as I only fly in the VC and it would have to be wholly flyable from the VC too. I know about the Perfect flight model, but while the external model looks good the VC is surely not that of a Tristar!! I used to have one in fs2004 or was it fs2000? but was wondering if there is one out there for fsx. I have found the freeware one on here, I forget who by, that is a nice external model with a DC10 Virtual cockpit which is flyable at least, and I have added a 2D panel for a Carousel INS system which works very well, and makes things more realistic. So can anyone help, hahahaha hoping Mr PMDG reads this lol. Happy flying,
