  1. I thought it was best to put fsx and OS on separate drives.... I was thinking of placing FSX plus addons on the SSD and Windows and all other programs on the HDD.
  2. I appreciate the replies. And I did realize shortly after posting that I had used the wrong forum. Hopefully the powers that be can move this to the correct forum. I thought about the velociraptor, but the idea of not having to defrag over and over made the SSD appealing. Plus, the velociraptors appeared to cost a lot more than they did a year ago. Maybe I'm wrong. I have quite a few addons for FS9, which I am currently running, and so far haven't used close to 128GB yet. Do FSX addons use more memory? Todd
  3. Looking at a computer build to finally upgrade to FSX. Right now, I'm stuck at what HDD or SSD (or both) to get and what is the best way to set them up for performance. Right now, I am thinking of going with a Western Digital 500 GB HDD for the operating system and general FSX library storage, and a Crucial m4 128 GB SSD for FSX, aircraft, weather engine, and other add-ons that will need to be accessed during a flight. Is this a reasonable strategy? Are there other better recommendations? Is there any visible benefit to even having an SSD? Which HDD - too many caviar colors to know what is the best value. Black, Blue, or Green? Or would another manufacturer be better? Thanks! Todd
  4. If you like turboprops, check out Carenado's Piper Meridian Jetprop, and King Air C90. They have both a King Air 200 and TBM 850 in development. They are all payware, but you won't find better GA aircraft. Eaglesoft Development Group has a very nice Citation X, and they have a Citation XLS in development. Todd
  5. Yes you did, indeed! My brain must have taken that day off.Now that I know where to find them, is there a good tutorial on how to edit those files? I read Bert's post, and the steps seem easy enough, but I'm thinking creating a new gauge lighting file for the G1000 is more involved. I did read the VC lighting tutorial that is stickied. It looks rather straight forward but there seems to be some how-to holes I don't understand. I also downloaded the FSPS demo but couldn't open the VC panel. Now, it is a demo, so perhaps that feature isn't available, but I would like to know how to open the VC panel with FSPS before I buy the program. Todd
  6. Well, I found the files. I didn't think to check the texture folder. I figured they would be in the panel folder with the other panel files. Anyway, I moved the files to a temp folder and the ghost images are gone. What is the best way to modify these files so that you keep lighting for some gauges but remove others? And how do I add lighting effects for new gauges like the G1000?Todd
  7. OK, I modified the VC bmp's and was able to add the Mindstar G1000 without trouble. The panel functions well and looks great ... in the daytime. At night, I get ghost images of the original gauges that bleed through the PFD and MFD. These images are turned on when the lights are turned on. Is there any way to fix this? I looked for any xxx_L.bmp files, thinking hey might be the culprit, but there aren't any.Todd
  8. Thanks for the tips, Tom. So, if I open a VC bitmap with a paint program and the panel has gauges, can I simply paint over the gauges to effectively "remove" them, or do I need to cut them out first, and then paint over the empty space? I assume that is what you mean by "edit." Is it best to paint over the gauges using a separate layer in the paint program?Todd
  9. I'm very new to panel editing. I just purchased the Mindstar G1000 and would like to add the PFD, MFD, and audio panel to the flight 1 cessna 172. It is my understanding that Flight 1 panels are easier to edit compared to other 3rd party aircraft (at least that is what I was told), so hopefully this isn't too difficult. While I would like to add the G1000 to both the 2D and VC panel, I'd like to try the 2D panel 1st.My first question - do I need to use a paint program to modify or cover the default gauge locations on the original bitmap main panel file? Can you add a large gauge like the G1000 using FS panel design studio?I also noticed that the flight 1 cessna 172 panel folder has bitmaps for VC views. These bitmap images show the panel with gauges. The VC section of the panel.cfg file, however, actually lists the individual gauges similar to the 2D window sections. Does this mean the VC panel will be easy to modify, or will they need to be edited with a paint program to remove the gauge images (if that is even possible)?I appreciate any help!Todd
  10. First of all, for those using the Mindstar G1000, how do you like it? Does it represent the real world unit well? Is it supported by Navigraph updates?Secondly, I have the flight 1 cessna 172, which I really like. I'd like to add a G1000 to it, if possible. Has anyone been able to successfully add the Mindstar G1000 to both the 2D and VC panels. If so, could you please share the steps to do it?Thanks!Todd
  11. I'm very new to scenery design, still learning as I go. I currently use ADE9X, IS2, and SBuilder. The latter is the one I know least about! Also, I use FS9 with FSG mesh, UT USA, and GE Pro.I need help excluding a default FS9 road that runs under a new taxiway I added. I confirmed that it is a default road. Here's how I'm creating the exclusion:1) Open SBuilder and create new project.2) Start FS9, then connect SBuilder to FS9, red crosshair depicting aircraft position appears.3) Press poly button on top tool bar, and "draw polygon" around section of road to be excluded, using position of aircraft as guide in placing the polygon points. Close flight sim.4) Open polygon properties box and select exclusion box. Add layers to be excluded (I've tried layer 6,7,8,9,10,21-29 because that was what was suggested in other forums).5) save project, then compile bgl file. Place new bgl file in scenery file of airport, which is already activated.6) Restart flight sim.No matter what layer I choose, the road still appears. Interestingly, I can make the road disappear by creating a new airport boundary on layer 10 (vtpp file) using SBuilder. However, at night, the UT USA street lights still appear, suspended in air, where the road used to travel. These lights hover over part of the new taxiway I created.I'm not sure how UT works, but I'm assuming if I can exclude that road, then the lights should go away. Am I right?Am I creating an exclusion polygon correctly? Am I using the correct layers to exclude? Can anyone give me a list of FS9 layers and what objects they contain? I thought roads were on layer 6.Any and all help excluding the section of road is very much appreciated. Todd
  12. I was reluctant to give the Airsimmer a try, but after reading this thread I might have to try it. I can't keep my eyes off the model and cockpit.Todd
  13. I'm unable to locate this in RC4 airline menu. Is there a different name? Can airlines be added? If not, I'd like to request Shuttle America be added to RC5 (Callsign 'Mercury'). Thanks for your hard work and great program!Todd
  14. V2 is definitely nicer. However the touchdown zone markings on all the runways are wrong. I wish Imaginesim would fix those. I contacted them multiple times about it with zero response. Hopefully I can figure out this ground bleed issue. I tried reinstalling v1 and have no problems with ground bleeding, but it really made me appreciate the looks of v2.Todd
  15. Jim,I added your flatten line and no luck. I appreciate the suggestion, though!Todd
  16. Jim,I don't have a scenerytool.exe file in any of my Imaginesim airport folders. Do you have version 2??Todd
  17. Another vote for the both the ERJ and E-Jets. Can't go wrong with either. I personally love the ERJ. It has no autothrottle ( the real ERJ doesn't have one either). When it comes to hand-flying, it's awesome.Todd
  18. Steve,I tried your suggested changes and they didn't work for me. :sad:Jim,I looked at my Scenery.cfg file and the Imaginesim KDEN section does not have a 'flatten' line. Is there a standard entry I shold use?Interestingly, I have the same problem with Imaginesim's KMCI (which also happens to be v2).I appreciate the input, gentlemen!Todd
  19. I've started dabbling into repaints, and have started with the PMDG 1900D. I opened the 1900d_fuse_t.psd file, which has all the layers, of course.I add paint to a new transparent layer which I place just above the livery layer, but all the rivets are covered up. I can get the seams to appear by increasing the opacity and fill of the alpha seams layer. However, there is no alpha rivets layer.Forst of all, how does an alpha seam layer differ from a regular seam layer? How can I get the rivets to appear under the paint?I'm using GIMP. Thanks!!Todd
  20. I hope this is the righ place to post this! I use FS9 with UTUSA, GEPro, FSG mesh, FSG landclass (sandwiched b/t UTCity and UTUSA). My computer specs: 2007 iMac 2.66 GHz, 4MB RAM, 1TB HDD, Bootcamp. Flight sim has been very smooth with my current system.I'm running into an issue with Imaginesim's KDENv2 (and yes I have contacted them about the issue with ... wait for it .... no response! Shocking :( ). My issue is ground textures are bleeding through the edges of the taxiways (they rapidly fade away as you get toward the center of the taxiways) and aprons. The roads around the airport parking lots are completely covered with grass. The roads for the airport vehicles are fine on the aprons, but once the roads move into the grassy areas between the apron and taxiways, they are covered by the grassy ground textures, with the white edge lines and dashed centerlines showing.I've tried reinstalling KDEN twice, I've placed it at the top of the scenery layers, I've tried inactivating FSG landclass, and I tried inactivating the KDEN flatten.bgl file. Nothing works. I was wondering if anyone has had a similar issue with KDEN or another Imaginesim airport (or any airport, for that matter), and found a fix. I was thining maybe the airport altitude needed to be adjusted but I have no idea how to check that, nor how to adjust it.I appreciate everyone's help in advance!Todd
  21. Ronzie,Thanks for answering my post so promptly. Your information was exactly what I was looking for! Happy New Year to you and your family. And once again, thank you for such a top shelf add-on.Todd
  22. I'm about to add Great Lakes Airlines AI aircraft with flight plans to FS9. How can I get RC4 to recognize the new AI aircraft? Is this automatic or do I need to add anything to the aircraft.cfg file of the AI aircraft? This is something I haven't done before so I wanted to ask before doing it.Also, I believe Great Lakes Airlines is under the name Northern Freight or something similar in RC4, correct?Todd
  23. Eric,Fantastic add-on. I like this better than Active Camera. One request - can you implement using the mouse in spot plane view much like VC view? I'd like to pan around the aircraft, zoom in and out, etc. Especially useful for taxiing and just admiring my flying! Also, I have issues with FS2004 placing the tower in the correct location and not being able to zoom in and out. I know someone has developed a freeware add-on that makes it better, but I'd like to have more accurate tower placement, and again the ability to zoom in on my aircraft. This may be beyond the scope of your work - no big deal of course if it is. Keep up the great work on a magnificent tool.Todd
