  1. FInally about to build a new system and I'm confused as all can get out over what processor, what RAM, what RAM works with what processor, SB vs. IB..... My head is spinning. Here's what I'm debating: 1) i7 2700K or i73770K. I plan to overclock but not go crazy. I'm thinking 4.5-4.7 range. I plan to use the Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo, which gets highly rated on Newegg (many even praise it over the water cooling units). 2) RAM. I see a lot of people 8GB DDR3 1600, yet others are saying go 8GB DDR3 2400 or even higher speeds with lowest CL. We're getting into some expensive memory at the lower CL. I'm all for spending a little extra money if I'll see the difference. What confuses the matter is I've read where some are of the opinion that RAM speed is only important when using IB CPU's (not so important with SB CPU's). Would DDR3 1600 be adequate? I just downloaded the new FSX guide, which has been helpful, and a great resource. In an unrelated question, though - are the NickN optimizations still necessary with the new technology we now have? Thanks! Todd
  2. Oh, that us good news! Thanks for updating me, Momtchil. Todd
  3. Jim, Unless things have changed, in their closing announcement on their website the developers say all files will be removed from AVSIM and flightsim.com. rbirtel, I would go to WoAI, download all the airline and GA files you want to have, download their installer tool, then install those airline packages onto your sim. The nice thing about doing that is the WoAI installer will install all the aircraft models and textures in a matter of seconds. If you ever want up to update flight plans for ult AI, you can download those from the AVSIM library then use the aircraft textures downloaded from WoAI. I also recommend downloading the AI Flight Planner 2 utility, which let's you modify flight plans, add textures to your aircraft.txt file, etc. It's like TTools on steroids. Then, just update your AI flight plans airline by airline. For the most part, most people don't really pay attention to whether the AI aircraft are flying current schedules or not. So, if you want to keep it simple just use the original WoAI and don't change anything. Todd
  4. I'm pretty sure that section wasn't there when I read the manual the other day. I double checked, though, and it's there today! Thanks. I should probably read the manual rather than skimming it. Gees! Todd
  5. I need some assistance with controlling the amount of traffic that is allowed for a single airline. I'm in the process of updating my AI flight plan packages little by little. I initially used World of AI, and am keeping all of the texture files that came with the various packages, but I'm downloading updated flight plan files from the library. I am starting with United Airlines. I downloaded the AIG package, added my textures to the aircraft.txt file, and compiled using AI Flight Planner utility. I removed the original United traffic.bgl file created by WoAI. Everything works fine, but my gates are too full! My traffic slider within FS9 is set to 50%. However, I noticed in the flight plan.txt file traffic is set for 1% for each flight plan (over 500), which means I get all or nothing. I read somewhere to change the 1% to 10% for all flight, so I did, but I still have the same problem - almost every gate is occupied at KIAH. So I tried 20%. Same issue. So my question - what is the best way to control the amount of traffic displayed for a single airline package? I see WoAI uses a different percentage value for each individual flight plan, but I just can't imagine doing that 500 times! The only other solution I can think of is to inactivated a couple of aircraft in the aircraft.txt file by placing // in front of an aircraft entry. Is there another solution that is better? Perhaps a utility I don't know about? Thanks! Todd
  6. Using Swordy's old AFCAD did the trick. Now I have traffic at the B gates and the airport itself is fine. Jon, I'll send that file today if you still want it. Having a 3 year-old boy will make you forget things. Denver, PM me your email address and I'll be happy to send the AFCAD. I basically added the major United Express partners to the B gates. Make sure you have AI for the United Express regional airlines installed (I assume you have already). Todd
  7. Jon, I'll send you the file this evening. There is no photoreal scenery, and buildings are not part of AFCAD. Scott, I thought about trying AFCAD2. Good to know you had success. Todd
  8. I'm trying to do a small edit to the aircraft parking at the B-gates at Blueprint sim's KIAH. The only thing I am doing is adding more regional airlines that can park at these gates. No edits are being made to the airport layout itself. When I compile the airport, I get an error message regarding bglcomp (doesn't say spwcifically what problem is). Nonetheless, an AFCAD.bgl file is created. When I open the airport in FS9, I do have aircraft parked at the gates I edited, but taxi signs, taxiway markings and Blueprint's airport roads and buildings are scattered and out of position. I have edited other add-on airport AFCADs with zero problem, so this appears to be a Blueprint sim issue. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there any way to edit the AFCAD gates without affecting the rest of the AFCAD? I did back up the original AFCAD, so all is good. I use FS9. Todd
  9. How about the fact the IAE version doesn't work, that you have to pay full price for an add-on that has problems that have yet to be fixed, not to mention a rather non-responsive developer on their forums. It has great eye-candy but that's it. Save your money. Todd
  10. I tried Airsimmer twice. It's a beatiful model with great sounds and lots if bugs that have yet to be fixed. You pay over $50 USD for a product that is essentially not finished and likely will never be. Sure, there ate workarounds for the many bugs, but I don't want workarounds. I want a product that works. For $50 it better work. And while you supposedly get the CFM and IAE engine variants, only the CFM variant works. If you want to fly the IAE, tough. Support from the developers is nonexistant, although two gentlemen graciously give of their time, volunteering their support. I applaud them for giving of themselves, but it is criminal for the developers to charge full price for a buggy, unfinished product. The Advanced version is apparently being used successfully be some beta testers (there's even a YouTube video of it) yet it seems it will never get released. Not trying to restart old flames over this product. Many of us are just upset over something that had so much potential. The developers really stepped on a lot of toes and may have created a PR nightmare that they may never recover from. But, hey, try it for yourself and return it if you don't like it. Just beware the eye and ear candy the sim brings. Absolutely wonderful. Actually flying it is another thing. Just beware. Todd
  11. Ian, There is still an active Aeroworx King Air forum that has some good tips for flying this bird (you'll have to Google it, sorry). You do need to be careful coming in high on approach because it is difficult to get your speed down. It's easy to get behind this aircraft (or any advanced aircraft). Your speed on final was way too high. Like the previous poster suggested, practice, practice. I haven't flown this aircraft In a while. Todd
  12. First off, I am using ASE sp4 with FS9. I also use REX for environment and cloud textures. Over time I will create a new set of textures in REX for clear skies, IMC, partly cloudy, etc and save these texture grouping as a snapshot in ASE. I have about 5 texture sets saved so far. When planning a flight, I upload my flight plan into ASE, and then press the "process" button. I am then asked if I want ASE to loaf the appropriate snapshot textures for the weather condition. It seems that no matter what the weather conditions are, ASE will always load Partly Cloudy 1 or Partly Cloudy 2 snapshots even if weather is overcast and raining. I have 2 sets of textures for bad weather and those are never selected by ASE. How does ASE choose an appropriate snapshot for airline flights? How can I get ASE to select texture sets other than Partly Cloudy? Todd
  13. The flat-out nastiness and bitterness expressed by SOME regarding JD's absence is sad, to be kind. He didn't just abandon RC5. Please read the post he personally wrote to all of his customers in the sticky section, folks, where he explains why he suspended RC5 for 12 months. And as ohsirus stated above, give him his space. Noone knows what kind of life event he and his family are working through right now. I applaud him for being able to put aside something he loves so much for him and his family's sake. Let's all wish him the best in whatever he's having to deal with right now. In 7 months, he will let us know his decision.Until then, let's enjoy RC4 for what it is. It has greatly made my simming experience more enjoyable. And for that I am thankful to JD. Todd
  14. Ronzie, Thank you for the detailed trouble-shooting steps. I checked the r5.csv file and Rwy 1C was listed (0013), however in the r4.csv file in the rc4/data folder, Rwy 1C was NOT listed. I went ahead and updated Make Runways to v. 4.164 (I had version 4.163) and updated the database via RC4 (which I've done multiple times before). Rwy 1C (0013) is now listed in the r4.csv file. Looks like problem is fixed! I have no idea why it failed to update in the past. Either way, this time it worked. I appreciate the timely individual support you give to all the users of RC4. I hope you and your family have a blessed New Year! Blue Skies, friend. Todd
  15. I've run Make Runways multiple times since installing ImagineSim's KIAD over a year ago and every time I fly into or out of Dulles RC4 only recognizes Rwy's 1 L and 1 R. Rwy 1C is not recognized, even when I want to request a Rwy, 1C is not listed. I enter the correct path for MSFS when running make runway from RC4. And make runways has updated other add-on airports. Any ideas? Todd
  16. OK, this might force me to switch over to FSX. Unbelievable! Will the steamer version have FMS too? Todd
  17. I'm looking for a good airbus package to use in FS9. Like many, I tried Airsimmer and was disappointed on many fronts (I don't want to reopen another nasty debate on this). I've been going back and forth on buying the Wilco Airbus Evolution and merging with Project Airbus, plus maybe adding TSS sounds. Has anyone done this and does it make for a nice, enjoyable Airbus package? Any other recommendations? Todd
  18. I'm using FS9 on an iMac with many add-ons for scenery and weather and have been very happy with it. Some developers are still creating nice aircraft for FS9, although I'm getting concerned that they are beginning to ditch FS9. FSX allows for more detail in scenery and aircraft, even HD quality. Downside is you need a good computer to run FSX. Even then, I read many threads from those with expensive setups who still have problems running FSX. It's big reason I haven't switched yet. What intrigues me is the number of people who ask if I use FS9 or FSX when I post screenshots. So, visually the two are close in many situations. I'm sure FSX has more advanced flight characteristics than FS9, as it should. One thing FSX has going for it, is Prepare3d, which is essentially FSX for commercial use. The FSX software coding was purchased by Lockheed. While currently P3D is essentially FSX, it will be further developed into the future. I think this will eventually be the sim of the future, especially if version 2 ends up being as good as many anticipate. If so, I'll probably skip FSX altogether and eventually go P3D. Todd
  19. Good to know. I think I'll just leave it like it is, then. Todd
  20. Thanks for clarifying, Pete. My FS9 is in the Program Files folder. Can I change that easily? Todd
  21. hocdaddy, I want to make sure I understand your issue clearly, so forgive me for asking about things you may already know. When you downloaded WoAI, did you find the installer program? Next, when you selected 'airports' are you talking about the menu on the WoAI website? If so, selecting a particular airport, it will bring up a list of airlines that use that airport. You then download each individual airline package you want from the WoAI website (the packages are actually here in the AVSIM library, but clicking the package link will take you there). These packages are zip files and are not to be opened. Run the WoAI installer and follow the steps to install each airline package individually. That's it! Todd
  22. OK, so just to be clear. I recently purchased the Aerosoft Anchorage scenery. The new scenery of course includes the Runway 14 number change. It is now 15 (I think I have it correct, but you get the picture ). When I rebuild the database in RC4, 'ATC' will now recognize Runway 15, correct? Another example... FSDT KORD v2 has the new runways, and includes renumbering some of the old runways. Should RC4 now recognize the new runways and the renumbered runways (after rebuilding database of course)? Todd
  23. What does this program actually do? I was under the impression that if a new AFCAD that includes, for example, a new runway addition, if you run makerunways.exe, RC4 will recognize that new runway. Yet, thus doesn't seem to happen. Todd
