  1. Gregg, Thanks for the additional input. Knowing that it's possible and that others are actually doing it makes me feel a lot better about deciding to give it another go. And, I think the A2A C172 is a good candidate for it so I'll be trying ti out this week for sure.
  2. Thanks! I think I'll give it a go this coming week and see how it works.
  3. I recently installed the A2A C172 for my simpit and the SimPlugins Panel Builder A2A add on. I have all my gauges setup and the adjustment knobs working. I only had to use Button Mapper for two of them, the TAS adjustment on the Airspeed indicator and the pitch adjustment on the Attitude indicator. I don't recall seeing this previously but since this install anytime I operate my mag switch it causes the pitch adjustment on the Attitude indicator to jump up and down. I double checked to make sure the button assignments I was using in Button Mapper were not double assigned and that my mag switch was setup correctly and likewise not double assigned. Here's a high level on my setup. I am using three Leo Bodnar cards for my Axis and Buttons. All are handled through FSUIPC. Card 0 has most of my instrument panel switches, yoke and rudder pedals . Card 1 handles some miscellaneous test switches and a couple axis that wouldn't fit on card 0. And card 2 handles all the rotary encoders in my gauges. My mags are on card 0 as follows: 0/0 = Magneto1 set, 0 (off) 0/1 = Magneto1 set, 1 (right) 0/2 = Magneto1 set, 2 (left) 0/3 = Magneto1 set, 3 (both) 0/4 = Magneto1 set, 4 (start) The Buttons controlled by Button Mapper are on Card 2 as follows: 2/0 = Airspeed Indicator, PALT- 2/1 = Airspeed Indicator, PALT+ 2/2 = Artificial Horizon, PITCH- 2/3 = Airspeed Indicator PITCH+ Any advice or direction on how to solve this or trouble shoot it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Tom G.
  4. Hi, I am a Sim Pit builder and over the course of the last few years have taught myself a little bit about coding. For my pit build it's mostly the C++ subset that Arduino uses and some Lua code through FSUIPC. A few years back I tried using Linda but at that time decided I wanted to go the route of doing all my own coding. I just started using the A2A 172 and am hoping to also install their 182. As I start to work through the LVars for the 172 I've hit a few walls and can't seem to code my way around them. While out googling around for the answer sure enough I find people talking about how they are using Linda for the A2A 172 with great success. So I'm back again debating whether to give Linda another try... I just looked at the install notes for the latest version and had a flash of recall from my first test drive with Linda. Since then I have a fair amount of my own Lua scripts and a fairly extensive setup of switches and Axis in my pit via FSUIPC for my current aircraft and pit configuration. Am I understanding the install notes correctly, Do I have to discard all my current FSUIPC settings and Lua scripts? Is Linda an all or none proposition or can it coexist with what I currently have? I'm not asking for any guarantee of compatibility or a detailed review of my current setup either would be an unreasonable ask on my part. I just want to know if it's possible conceptually for Linda to be added to what I already have rather than replacing it. I just can't fathom tossing all the hours I've put into things so far. Thanks! Tom G.
  5. Thanks! I'm off to install the A2A add on and setup my new Instrument Panel.
  6. I just moved my A2A 172 from my desktop sim to my sim pit. Until now I've been using some stock FSX aircraft for testing and couple Carenado aircraft for regular flights in my sim pit and running the standard FSX version of Panel Builder for my instruments. I understand that there is an A2A specific version of Panel Builder. Is this an add on to be installed in addition to the standard FSX version or, in place of the FSX version? If in place of the FSX version, will the A2A version still work properly with my other stock FSX and add on aircraft? Thanks! Tom G.
  7. Problem Solved. I decided after several other things failed to do a re install of the software. All is working now.
  8. I'll try that next and see what happens. I just pulled the instrument panel apart to do some mechanical work so I might be delayed a bit but I'll post back with my findings as soon as I am able.
  9. Hi, Fairly new SimPlugins user here. I've had it up and running in my sim pit for a couple months now It's working great with the exception the problem referenced above regarding the attitude adjustment. Just as the other user is doing I am using the ATTITUDE_BARS_POSTION_DOWN and UP commands from FSUIPC to change attitude indicator with rotary encoder knob. I believe I am using the latest version it shows as 2.9 when I run the software. Has a fix been found for this?
  10. Got it, and, yes, was in windowed mode. Any other thoughts on why it would not generate the ini file.
  11. Jay, Thanks for the quick reply. As I said, I did follow all the instructions to include running Panel Store first. And, it did not create an ini file. Actually, thinking about it the window opened was a Virtual Cockpit view. Does panel store work for VC views? Thanks... Tom G.
  12. I know this is an old topic but I just discovered the Panel Store and Panel Restore programs. I have followed the instructions on how to install and use them but they do not appear to be working. I have seen a handful of posts in this thread and one other where people are reporting the same problem I am having. When I reopen FSX and try to use Panel Restore "No ini file present" ??? I have read in previous posts that Panel Store will create the ini file and save it in the same folder the program is run from. I checked there and see no ini file. I also read above that I should have both programs set to run as administrator. I made sure of that and still no ini file. Is Panel Store/Restore still in use? Has anyone else run into this issue and solved it?
  13. BVATC also put up a website that lists several alternatives to gamespy: http://http://www.fsxbeyondgamespy.com

  18. I mounted a back panel to my desk using large shelf brackets. Actually the back panel is a black laminated 12" x 48" shelf. I then used long machine screws to mount my Saitek panels along with a second monitor (used to display my instrument panel) on the panel. My yoke (CH Products) is mounted under the desk with the yoke shaft extended. My Saitek throttle is mounted to the lower edge of the panel to the right of the yoke using a pair of L shaped brackets. My primary monitor is mounted on a swing arm and positioned above and behind the panel. It is of course used for an out the window view.
  19. I read through this thread and saw the claims of improved performance and the cries of snake oil. But I figured what have I got to loose... My starting point was with scenery density and medium and on a clear day with no AI in site and not a cloud in the sky I was lucky to get 17FPS with plenty of freezes and screen stutter. I followed the advice provided by the OP and now under those same conditions I'm running in the 25 to 30 fps range and silky smooth (no stutters or freezes). Wind the scenery complexity up another notch, add some AI traffic back in, and toss in a t-storm with precip' for good measure and I am running 20 to 24fps and still smooth as glass. That same combo before this would have put me down in the 11 to 14 range at best. Color me happy!
  20. Like another poster above I also have experience moderating a couple forums outside of this hobby. It's no easy task, and I can empathize with the moderators here at AVSIM. I made my share of people unhappy and made some mistakes like anyone would. The one rule of thumb I had for myself as a moderator was accountability. That translates to clear explanation of why (what forum rules) where the cause of my stepping in. And, more importantly, when I made a mistake I stepped up to it, if possible undid the action I took, and just like the explanation of why I stepped in, I posted an explanation of why I later reversed that action. Unless the moderator that seems to be the focus of this thread has PM'd the OP or subsequent people who felt similar that accountability seems to be missing from this discussion so far. To be sure I am not misunderstood, I am not putting down any moderator, honestly I am too new to AVSIM as an active user to have clue who is being talked about. And, I respect the challenges of the task, and the feedback of the moderators who have posted replies here. But so far, none of the replies have addressed what would appear to be a touch of over zealousness, even if it was an honest error with good intent. Just one users humble and maybe even flawed opinion.
  21. Purely uneducated conjecture here, so don't flame this comment, but feel free to tell me I'm all wrong on this. It sounds the key is created back at the time of purchase by some sort of algorithm that uses the buyers cc number as a seed value. So the CC number is not stored in the download, only the license number. However, if the app on the customer's pc has to do a validation of the key using that cc number then does it not follow that the same algorithm must exist in the installer. If so, does that not open a door for a talented hacker to buy a copy of the add on, reverse engineer/hack the algorithm, and then monitor the download servers to snag copies of peoples down loads and back the cc number out of the embedded license and algorithm. Of course if they are that talented they are likely out scamming something far more lucrative...
  22. In fairness, since I grumbled about customer support in an open forum, above, I should also follow up and let folks know that Tim got right back to me after I sent him the PM and is working on resolving the issue for me. Looking forward to checking out REX Essentials!
  23. Damian, I found this thread while looking for some info on the new REX release. I am a current REX 2 user and have attempted several times to download the new release, however, the REX site tells me I do not have the correct permissions to access the page. Assuming it's a problem with my user profile for the REX site I sent an e-mail to the forum admin via the link provided on the page. It's one day shy of a week since I requested help and no one has responded to me. I even sent a follow up message part way through the week, but still no reply. What do I need to do to escalate this issue? Thanks!
