  1. I agree - unfortunately I had to edit in WMM6.0 - so needless to say the editing options were limited. And if I were to re-do it I would have ensured that the shots weren't lagging and awry. Some of that was as a result of FSRecorder (or most of it, IMHO). I don't have Aerosoft USCX San Francisco installed, or other decent sceneries in the region, and because of that I didn't show more. I was thinking of that, though. In a good way or a bad way...? Thanks for that, good suggestions and glad you got the chance to watch it!
  2. Hello Simmers, Just finished what I think to be my best video yet (the standards weren't that high), and I would appreciate it if you took a look at it, and tell me what you think! I know there were a couple of technical errors, but EZDok and FSRecorder Render came out well for me, making this also one of the easiest videos for me to make yet. Thank you - and enjoy!
  3. Is there going to be an announcement when the wide beta begins? I'm more than happy to wait, though I was wondering about whether or not that info will be info on that, or whether it would just be a matter of an eventual release with little precedent. Thanks, and can't wait for this amazing product!
  4. My recommendations would be, first, American Airlines Virtual (aavirtual.net). ALthough they do not meet all of the requirements, they do meet most of them (6.5/7), and they have a brilliant UI - along with a great community on Facebook. They also have a fair bit of flexibility in that you can fly codeshare/charter operations if you want to. Another great one is Virtual Air Canada (vacanada.org). Although they do not fly the NGX, they fly the DH4 and 77L, as well as having a full dispatch system and a very well-designed pilot center. Flight schedules are realistic as well. My last recommendation would be Delta Virtual Air Lines (flydeltav.com), as they meet most of your requirements, or at least plan to. Anyway, my 2 cents (or 3). Hopefully you find what you're looking for! Sincerely, -Derek
  5. I agree - although I do not fly online or have an electronic charts subscription (or, for that matter, fly in the RW), I would recommend reviewing some sort of airport chart before you fly the SID/STAR, if not only for understanding and fluidity. I know at Dubai PFPX usually, as I usually fly from the US/Canada to there, puts me on the DESDI6* arrival, which if flown fully results in an excessively oblong pattern of switchbacks, that can and apparently usually is shortened by a lot. It's just a matter of knowing what you're about to fly, and it also contains key information like Baro units, the DH and the Transition Altitude. Anyway, I do like PFPX for quick planning, and what's good is that if subscribed for online use (it automatically comes with a one year subscription), it will read the forecasts (from what I can tell/believe) and select a runway and best route accordingly. Anyway, my two cents. Really there's tons of options when it comes to complete route planning, and it just comes down to the best choice for you and how you like to fly. Safe Landings (And STARs  )! -Derek
  6. I use PFPX, and it will automatically calculate my STARs/SIDs as is required. I'm not sure to what extent it will calculate aircraft restrictions, though it does a very good job of route planning. It even includes a feature to go onto FlightAware to copy the route from that. I use to use RouteFinder (http://rfinder.asalink.net/free/), and it worked not as well as PFPX, though it gave airways and the final waypoint of the SID/first of the STAR, and from there it was relatively easy to find the appropriate procedure from there. Good luck! -Derek
  7. Sounds great - looking forward to having even more aircraft in my virtual hangar!
  8. I saw a BAW 788 at Pearson while taxiing a few months back - immediately took as many pictures as I could! Unfortunately none of them really turned out. Anyway, I forgot to mention, of course, the AC 787 we're expecting in a couple of years. And ytzpilot, do you know where ANZ plans to fly theirs?
  9. Hello Simmers/All! Sorry if this has already been discussed here, but JAL has recently added a 787 on their usual route from RJAA to CYVR. This is going to be the first scheduled 787 service to Vancouver, and it's scheduled to begin on the 3rd of February, 2014, to be followed by China Southern's 787 service from Guangzhou coming later. The route is going to be introduced by means of a gradual system, with frequency increasing as the year progresses. News link is below. Safe flying! -Derek http://www.yvr.ca/en/Blog/Posts/Boeing_787_on_Final_Approach_to_YVR.aspx
  10. Great angles and stunning shots overall! As a sidenote, though, how did you get GSX working at the scenery? Apparently GSX isn't supposed to have support yet (as far as I know), and that's the case for me when I've tried it. Anyway, amazing job!
  11. I'm a die-hard FSX fan, but those shots are stunningly great and very realistic. Great work!
  12. OK - thanks. I'll try that as well.
  13. No - I fully understand what you mean by it. It's tracing the circle as more of a 36-sided polygon. And as for the other one, I probably will try some practice. It's great to improve my knowledge as such. Just two questions about this in the NGX specifically, though - how can the VOR/LOC button on the MCP help or work alongside this, and would it be theoretically possible or realistic to program a 12NM fix around the VOR, and just follow the line? Anyway, thanks for all your help. Definitely above and beyond by a longshot.
  14. That's why planes rarely land there . Before I knew the procedures I tried that as well. I've landed on the runway once, though. A small turboprop flight. From what I know they're planning on closing it, though I may be wrong. I've heard about Castlegar as well, and I may just have to try that. To add my 2 cents, I didn't find LOWI that bad, or SXM. The only approach that's actually caused me to crash in the past while has been the RNAV 02 at Toncontin. The vicious turn at the end, for me at least, cuts my speed, and as I'm desperately trying to avoid the houses, I don't notice the airspeed slowly creep into the red until I stall at too low of an altitude. From there it's more or less impossible to recover. I use the Taxi2Gate scenery, and it does not make it easy for me  .
  15. Same for me - 737NG cockpit, with the modern MCP.
  16. Thanks so much! I love it as well. It's now my profile background picture.
  17. Just one small question - how do I maintain the DME Arc? I'm using the HUD, and I can see the DME, but I seem to be chasing it. Looking at my flight plan is looking at a squiggly line that in no way resembles a DME Arc. Is this just something that comes with practice, should I enter a FMC fix, or is there something in the displays I'm missing?
  18. That is amazing. Thank you so much for all of this. Just dealing with a last-minute set of CTD's, but in all honesty this has brought me from no knowledge to tonnes of it. I really can't thank you enough. I'll reply if I have any questions, though I doubt I will.
  19. No - this is definitely very helpful. I never knew any of this before - so it's great to finally know! So in regards to the bearing pointer, is that just a matter of putting the ND into APP mode, or is there another way to bring it up? And lastly, you say that these are two ways of hand flying a VOR approach. From what you know or have experienced, do you think that approach like this would usually be hand-flown in a 737NG, or is there a way to program it into the autoflight system? When I've encountered something like this before all I've done is insert a fix around the VOR with the radial being the heading given in the gray lines and the distance being the DX.X value. Is this anywhere near the right track (excuse my pun)? And on the final approach course (116 degrees), at what point would I break off to align myself with the runway? The others seemed to think it was at D2.0 that I would circle around as if on a missed approach to line myself up. Is that correct? Thanks for all of this, I've decided to jump straight to Heraklion to try these approaches before I even think about trying one in my flight.
  20. Alright - thanks! So after ADORI it's the right turn onto the 12.0 DME Arc, before the left turn towards the VOR, and then a full turn to the left visually to land on runway 09? Now, as much as I would love to call myself an expert, I'm a little shaky on the whole VOR/DME idea. Is it, more or less, that I'll tune in the VOR frequency on NAV1, and attempt to maintain the distance measurements along the arc until the waypoints (for example to try to ensure that I remain at 19.0NM from the VOR on this STAR), or will I be able to program this into the FMC? In other words, what's the proper way to fly a DME Arc and subsequent VOR Approach in the NGX? Thanks for all the help - really appreciated and important.
  21. Hello Simmers, Today, when planning my flight form Dusseldorf to Heraklion, I encountered some approaches that I didn't recognize. I found these approach charts, and they're the ones I'm using. So to begin with I entered all of the info into PFPX, and asked it to generate a route for me. It called for an approach on runway 9, which I have only seen once in a video. Regardless, I decided to follow through with runway 9, and looked at the charts. Immediately I realized that the BAVES2L (my planned STAR), along with all others, appeared to be some form of VOR approach (which unfortunately I'm not too familiar with). Not only that, but there's no IAP for runway 9. With an odd STAR and no arrival, I'm left wondering how on earth I'm supposed to fly the approach (I realize it's probably quite simple, and that I'm just not getting something here, but I've never seen anything like this before). Anyway, I'm using the NGX, if that gives an idea of how much is to be automated. Thanks for any and all help - it's greatly appreciated! -Derek
  22. More or less. Give it a shot and see if it works out. It should also be explained in the manuals.
  23. Program your approach in the DEP/ARR page in the FMC, and it will automatically input the Navigation Radio information. From there, maintain the height of the last waypoint (usually around 2000 feet), and press "app" when the glde slope indicators (pink marks) appear around one bar up from the middle on the PFD. Ensure LNAV or heading select is armed beforehand.
  24. I was there a couple of years back, for only a day. It was spectacular, though.
