  1. Ah, but Marketing never has to match the reality. Just come vaguely close. Plus, he's previously referred to himself as an old man after joining PMDG. Am I right in thinking the 'secret project' is the only one at PMDG where he's involved from the very start (though may be retired at its release)?
  2. Technicially correct, yes. Yet, unlike before they were stung by the reaction to the criticism, they've actually listened and are implementing it. If they continued to be tone deaf, then your comment would be truly valid. At this moment in time, I agree. They've rested on their laurels for far too long. That's why I'm hoping some competition in the Boeing payware space from BlueBird Sim and iFly forces PMDG to rediscover their innovative side.
  3. I'm not PMDG's biggest fan, but this is way off. Do you really think that after making a big song and dance about how the nav data capability is going to appear in the 777 that it will still be stuck with the old PMDG way of drawing DME arcs and the like? They would be crucified if they did that. I'm going to confidently say, your comment is unfounded.
  4. Lots of people are saying this, however: A lot of people thought many types of add-on would be unnecessary before MSFS2020's release. How wrong they were... Even if similar effects do arrive with MSFS2024, an fx specialist dev will produce better effects than Asobo, IMO. MSFS2024 is due out in November (per rumours). It's also likely to need a few months to iron out teething issues. That's about a year away from now. Based on the above, I'm going to buy SimFX at some point.
  5. I think people are allowed to be a little frustrated with a further delay (it's 'been coming' for at least 2 years per RSR's posts), especially as the release hype train was started last year. That said, it will be forgotten by most when the 777-300 finally releases. It does read that way. I will commend PMDG for finally pulling their finger out and deliver ARINC 424 nav capability. That's part of a new feature set in response to some the (well-deserved, IMO) criticism they faced after being called out by a known real pilot forum member. Because of which, the 777 will be a more detailed product and PMDG will receive greater sales. A win-win situation!
  6. I think so, yes. It was originally planned for the FSWeekend, but pushed back to FSExpo, IIRC. As a 'diamond sponsor', I imagine PMDG would be permitted to deliver a first-look teaser video of whatever the new project will be.
  7. Captains, May the Fourth be with you... https://forum.pmdg.com/forum/main-forum/general-discussion-news-and-announcements/293866-may-the-fourth-be-with-you-2024-ah-the-cone-of-silence-but-we-are-nearly-through-it tl;dr Latest silence means they're close to the release date, working on small bugs and the new nav database for RF legs, also preparing the 777F for initial testing. Can't keep the original two months promise but they're close to choosing a release date. There will still be two weeks notice before release. The 777 release is not aiming to have "to be added later" features compared to the 737 to ease pressure on developers. 12th June 30th anniversary date of 777 first flight IS NOT planned as the PMDG 777 release date. Screenshot demonstrating that the cockpit will be realistically rendered in outside view, including different variants. Stream NDA will get lifted when they're sure about release date. Xbox update had to be postponed because the new SDK broke the EFB for a while. SU15 is not expected to have an effect on DC-6 or 737 They can't make it to FSExpo. Credit to u/ts737 on reddit for most of this condensed version of RSR's original post.
  8. Stand down everyone! False alarm... ⬆️ From PMDG's development update earlier today: https://forum.pmdg.com/forum/main-forum/general-discussion-news-and-announcements/293866-may-the-fourth-be-with-you-2024-ah-the-cone-of-silence-but-we-are-nearly-through-it
  9. Unlike most games, MSFS is not GPU dependent. Rather, it's very CPU intensive. The minimum specification for MSFS is an Intel i5-4460. Recommended is an Intel i5-8400. https://flightsimulator.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360013463459-Minimum-Recommended-and-Ideal-PC-requirements-for-Microsoft-Flight-Simulator (Though I'd argue that those CPUs still aren't strong enough for MSFS). Your RTX 3060 Ti is wasted on the rest of your PC. When you have sufficient funds, get a new CPU, motherboard, DDR4 or DDR5 RAM (depending on chipset) to balance everything out. Don't forget that the speed of your Internet connection also matters.
  10. Great! No more updating via the Navigraph FMS Data Manager for P3Dv6. And more importantly, another dev recognising ASFS, increasing the adoption rate.
  11. True. Though no-one is paying list price on a 777-300ER now. In fact, it's suggested that a newish 773 with KLM is worth just $89m in 2023. https://simpleflying.com/boeing-777-300er-2023-worth/
  12. Probably for the best, given your unfounded rumour-mongering. While iniManager isn't as UI-friendly as competitor apps, it downloaded and installed every purchase I own (including KMKE) without issue. Just have to point to your install location (one-time process) before you click download and install on your purchase.
  13. The World Hub has started to contain community-driven updates to default/vanilla MSFS airfields. This should start addressing the issues with taxiways, parking spots, etc. https://docs.flightsimulator.com/flighting/html/WorldHub/World_Hub.htm
  14. The same base default twin Earth platform, yet load into a different module (and associated physics specialisms) depending on what you wanted to simulate, e.g. road vehicle sim, ship sim, train sim, etc. I can absolutely see this happening in a few years from now. If I can't follow Formula 1 or WRC races as and when they happen i.r.l. with the Bell 206 or a drone, is it even a simulator? 😁
  15. Sorry to break the consensus on this thread so far. After three full reinstalls from scratch following a 'simple' SU update that failed (2 with MS Store and 1 with Steam), I go for the 'belt and braces approach', i.e. full back-up of: --> Packages\Official folder. C:\Users\<YourName>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator --> SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\MicrosoftFlightSimulator --> Steam\userdata\<steamnumber>\1250410\remote (all your controller profiles for MSFS) It's long-winded, sure. Though it saves potentially several hours of downloading and a few more to get things back as they were if the update goes wrong.
  16. What accusation? I never said anything like "dumbing down experiences." I gave an example of how you don't need all the expensive bells and whistles that the vast, vast majority of people wouldn't use in order to create usable career mode scenarios. Just shy of 24,000 people responded to the 2023 Navigraph survey. Even if you multiplied that figure by a factor of say, 50, to get 1.2 million geeky users like us who potentially care about charts, that's still only 10% of the total userbase of MSFS. The other 90% see MSFS as a game, why else do landing challenges: a) exist, and b) are scored? Sometimes your blind defence of all things MSFS really leads you to leaps of logic.
  17. Well, there we are then! Some people seem to think that a sim aircraft that we play with isn't good enough for real world training. I mean, the Aerosoft A330 for P3D was/is used as training software. Hence why only the A333 RR variant was produced.
  18. You don't need charts to do that. Design it so that simmers follow the pre-programmed waypoints (either as arrows/pointers in the sim world or as points in an aircraft's FMC) for a particular scenario. Say MS has $5 million leftover in its MS2024 dev budget to be spent on: creating even more digital Earth assets; contracting in new default aircraft à la iniBuilds A32N; 'buying' developer time to create more career scenarios; or on licensing charts... I just don't see Jörg getting sign-off on licensing charts.
  19. This is the crux of the matter. I don't see the high-level justification of spending time and resources into providing something that, at very best, ¼ of MSFS' total users would be interested in, especially as a lot of whom aren't regular purchasers from the Marketplace. Nearly every feature MS adds to MSFS is to: bring more gamers to look at Marketplace purchases; improve the digital twin Earth for (as yet unknown) other uses; and, increase the likelihood of enabling commercial-use contracts. Spending resources on charts won't achieve any of these, especially as charts are available through other providers. I think were at risk of getting carried away again with all the things that MSFS2020 was supposedly going to deliver by default / "no need for add-ons" territory again. MSFS2024 will leave gaping holes to be filled by third-party products, and that's not a bad thing.
  20. I don't understand how people are running a complex airliner, detailed airport scenery, AI traffic, plus any other add-ons and have PG on. My PC is not the newest, but still ranks well. I'm only at 1440p UW display and 75 Mbps (13 ms ping) broadband. PG is a stutterfest for me. Anyway, free is free and it will be a better scenery than the current payware one.
  21. https://forum.pmdg.com/forum/main-forum/general-discussion-news-and-announcements/210018-upcoming-efb?p=267698#post267698 "Due to other projects, some commercial and some professional, we could not assign the manpower to this project as would be most prudent." — Mathijs Unknown if it's an airline customer, though commercial and professional products (whatever they were) caused the 18-month+ delay to the 777 for MSFS.
  22. Was interested until I read this: I find PG to be performance-harming for airliner flying. It's a disappointing trend to see it being a pre-requisite. Still, it's a nice surprise for those who can and enjoy running PG.
  23. All the IFR charts you can want are there, from en-route charts to specific airports. For example, on the webpage sidebar, under Part 3 - Aerodromes (AD) --> AD 2 Aerodromes --> (e.g. EGLL) --> AD 2.24 Charts related to an aerodrome, you'll find all the charts for EGLL: ground movements, SIDs, STARs, initial approach procedures, RNAV arrivals, instrument approaches, and others. I agree that Navigraph has the market to themselves (and I don't think it's healthy). Aerosoft's attempt failed and now Avilasoft has shut-up shop. I just think that what with the focus of MSFS 2024 seemingly away from A-B airliner flights and more on 'flights with purpose' e.g. ag flying, medevac, sky crane ops, these type of flights have wider appeal. As such, I expect less focus / fewer resources will be spent on bringing charts to 2024, especially as there's already a solution (such as it costs) provided by Navigraph.
  24. Sorry, what? https://www.aurora.nats.co.uk/htmlAIP/Publications/2024-04-18-AIRAC/html/index-en-GB.html https://www.eurocontrol.int/articles/ais-online https://www.airservicesaustralia.com/aip/current/dap/AeroProcChartsTOC.htm Personally, I think charts would be an expensive addition to MSFS that only a niche* of flight simmers care about (*a small number of the 12m users of MSFS), plus they're already covered by Navigraph. There are other, wider appealing features that MS can get more bang for their buck, IMO. Who knows what has happened with Avilasoft, but it doesn't sound like MS did a deal with them. We may find out when MSFS 2024(/5) launches.
