  1. Hi! Many thanks for the pic! I was just reading the review of FranceVFR's Pas-de-Calais yesterday so this is nice to see!! Many thanks, Pierre
  2. Hi! Many thanks for the pics and links too. That weather program looks great and maybe what I need sometimes. Look forward to more pics of the Greek Islands! Many thanks, Pierre
  3. Hi! Many thanks for the replies. Many thanks for the offer. It might be nice to meet a fellow flightsimmer in real life as I don't think I've ever met one. I think I might start hanging out under the threshold for 26L or 8R in the near future! Many thanks, Pierre
  4. Hi! Many thanks for the post and nice to hear a bit about aviation from a part of the World not talked about much in these forums (from what I'm aware!). In particular the Australian National Aviation museum looks definitely my kinda thing, especially liked the page about Australian made aircraft which I knew little about. Good luck with the RW flying career! Many thanks, P.
  5. Hi! A few years ago I used to play computer games a lot. Mainly flightsim and golf games. But some games like flightsim and stuff are also good education in my opinion too so it's not a total waste of time I don't think! Many thanks, Pierre
  6. Hi! Many thanks for the link and post. it looks like a cool museum. The Sr-71 is definitely an aircraft that catures my imagination! (That and Firefox!). Many thanks, Pierre
  7. Hi! Many thanks for the replies and stories. I guess I should maybe not try to worry about it so much and try to focus more on being happy myself. However that is easier said than done from my experience! However I did manage to get out today and went to visit my old airfield where I used to take flying lessons which was nice. It's a beautiful airfield and on a sunny day like today is even better in real life than FsX. Plus the people at my old flight school don't mind me hanging out and drinking a diet coke for an hour! On an aviation note there was a Cessna lesson today where the flaps stopped working (C172). They handled it well though and everyone was safe which is good. Many thanks, Pierre
  8. Hi! Lol! You have a good point however I'm not really that kinda guy! Many thanks for the tip though! Pierre
  9. Hi! That's cool. I know a lot of guys play online games now and enjoy them but I've never tried. The reason I like computer games to start with is becuase I'm not good with people. The last thing I want to do is interact with others but that's probably just me! I do have Call of Duty for PC though which I played in a shop once and really enjoyed and then found in the store Game for £5. Will maybe try it out one of these days. Many thanks, Pierre
  10. Hi! Had a look and looks very nice. Good work. I like the fearture to look up weird runway surfaces, I have never seen that before. There seem to be more and more small niche websited popping up which are a useful resource for flightsim. The one I use a lot is "Fs freeware scenery list". It's great. Many thanks and good luck with further developments if you do them, Pierre
  11. Hi! If you like those kinda first first person shooter and you haven't tried it I would reccommend the first Goldeneye game for Nintendo 64 I think it was (I'm not sure). I had an emulator once and downloaded it and it was very good. Many thanks, Pierre
  12. Hi! Many thanks for the reply. I have noticed this a little too that some people seem to be quite into this old style of gaming. Here in the UK I think there is even a magazine in supermarkets called "Retro gaming". I don't really see it as retro though, just games I like playing. Anyway will check out Grimrock! Many thanks, Pierre
  13. Hi! Many thanks for the replies. Some very true words spoken and good info thanks. Yes my system is a Dell Vostro desktop. Their Vostro systems really are good value I find if you're looking for something cheap. I was looking at one today online which was selling new for £249 I think. Integrated graphics of course! Yes I did have a PCI-E dedicated graphics card for a while and the image quality especially further out was a lot sharper (with tweaks). Even a £25 card these days has 1GB memory I think and would improve my graphics a lot I think! But I'm still hanging on (maybe because I don't have £25 at the moment!). If anyone's interested here are a few screenies of a recent flight using the Intel Graphics. They're really not that bad! (or maybe they are!). http://forum.avsim.net/topic/384631-a-few-pics-from-a-mission/ Many thanks! P.
  14. Hi! Many thanks for the reply. Some very wise words. The point about two wholes definitely applies to my brother. He is nothing like me and a lot more confident and stuff and his wife too. I'm sure they have their problems too but both of them seem to be happy within themselves as well as together and with their kids. Anyway although he is busy he still is nice to me and tries to find time which I am grateful for. His wife doesn't really like me much but there's no rule saying she has to! Anyway I don't really mean to make my life sound miserable. it really isn't. I watch movies and play flightsim sometimes and eat ice cream. These are all good things! Maybe I need to find someone else who likes doing the same! Many thanks. P.
  15. Hi! Many thanks for the replies and tips. At least one of the things I'm very lucky with in life is that I don't really have to worry about money. I'm not really rich or anything but I live with my parents and they don't mind and my Dad made enough money and I don't really spend anything as I don't really do that much! I am thankful for this every day as without it I would probably be living in a shelter or wandering around the countryside begging or something. I really don't know. Sometimes I get together with old schoolfriends but we are so different now that I've kinda given up. It got to the point where we would go out and they would talk and laugh among themselves and totally ignore me even though I was standing right there. If i tried to add something or join in they would say something back and then ignore me again. So I kinda stopped doing that as it wasn't really good for anyone. I have one friend now who travels a lot with work but I see every few months for an hour or so. We are both into music quite a lot so can talk about that which is good. And he tells me stories about his travelling around the World and the people he meets and stuff which is nice to hear sometimes. I can imagine divorce wouldn't be too good for me. If I lost what money (savings) I have I would be in a lot of trouble. I tried internet dating once and it was a complete failure. The people on them are way too mainstream for a guy like me. Anyway to get married my Mum (and me too) kinda want to marry someone of the same background. However I kinda come from a tiny minority and there are very few of us and the girls for the most part are all hot high maintenance types who I have absolutely nothing in common with and who don't enjoy my company at all. Oh and I hang out with our gardener sometimes when he's round! Many thanks. P.
  16. Hi! Thought I'd change the pace a bit and ask a question about somthing I've been thinking about on and off for a while now. Apologies if it's a little heavy! Anyway was just wondering if anyone knows anyone who never got married in life or had a partner when older and how did they handle it. I only know my aunt but she lives with me and my parents. Anyway the fact is I have a very real chance of never getting married in life which doesn't really bother me too much. However what I worry about is becoming too isolated. I do try and do stuff socially in the real world and stuff but to be honest I never really get anywhere and find it quite exhausting. Anyway most of my relatives are spread all over the World and we see little of each other and as guys get married they get busy and we kinda lose touch. The problem I have is that I've seen a few relatives and stuff become more isolated from a social circle or family and stuff and it has led from what I've seen to problems with mental illness particularly dementia and stuff. I don't know if it's because of my personality or my circumstances but people do tell me I'm kinda an outsider (someone even bought me the book "The Outsider" for my birthday!). Anyway I don't mind about that and I know people have much much bigger problems. However is there a trick to being an older guy living on his own and not losing your mind! Anyway this is probably not the right forum but I really don't like health forums! Sorry if it's a bit heavy! Many thanks. P.
  17. Hi! Yes Vanuatu was filled with US World War II stuff. I mean it wasn't everywhere but every now and then it would show up. I have a pic of a friend standing next to a gas pump in a gas station straight out of the US1950's by a white sand beach in the middle of the Pacific. Some of the guys and women who lived there would set up old empty coke bottles and other small stuff by the side of the road to buy with a small jar to put donations or money if you wanted something. And the town of Luganville in Santo was pretty much built like a US midwest town. It has a big main street and used to have a cinema and all this other stuff. Now the Americans have all left (well besides the few PeaceCorps guys there now) but the huge street and some American buildings remain. Sorry if I'm getting very boring! Many thanks. P.
  18. Hi! I'm not a real pilot by any mean but what I'm kinda thinking from what the above post said is that very basically speaking for their size airliner wings generate a lot less lift than small GA wings because airliners fly a lot faster so don't need such big wings for their size? However when flying slow the airliner needs to compensate so will approach in a nose-up attitude to descend on a final approach while a small GA on the same finals will be generating a lot more lift for it's size so will be nose-down? Also GA aircraft I think approach at 60kt and cruise at 100kt (well a C172 in FsX does!) which is only a small difference whereas an airliner will approach at 135kt but cruise at 450kt which is like 3 or 4 times the difference. Maybe that has something to do with it too but I really don't know? As for the flare I have no idea. One thing I noticed watching real airliners landing is that they seem to make really nice touchdowns all the time (except in really bad weather). But in Fs when I fly to the runway and pull the power back the aircraft just drops onto the runway like a stone. This makes me look bad in instant replay for both GA and airliners and as yet I haven't been able to figure out a better way of doing things! Anyway sorry I don't have any real world info but those are my thoughts from simming for what they're worth!! Many thanks. P. P.S. I also have a vague thought of seeing a smaller regional jet or two (I think Crj's) coming into airport with a nose-down attitude. I don't know why that would be either (if I'm not imagining it!)
  19. Hi! Many thanks for the info and links. That Bird Aviation museum looks really cool but they are all good really. Oahu looks like a really beautiful place too. You're speaking of crashed aircraft got me thinking of one I saw back in 1996 while on a trip to Paunganisu a small village on the North coast of Efate Island in Vanuatu in the South Pacific. Vanuatu has lots of historical stuff from the US in World War II, mostly just lying around untouched. I found the history very interesting when I was there. Anyway here are a couple of shots of a WWII crashed plane just off the coast there. I think someone told me a short story about it. Apologies if the pilot died, I mean no disresect. Many thanks. P.
  20. Hi! Lol! Yes very true, or saying "X-plane sucks" in an X-plane forum! I really hope Flightgear sees some good deveopment in the future. There is a lot of good open-source software out there now I think in other areas so maybe flightsim has a chance too. Although making a 3d flightsim like FsX is probably a lot more work than making a utility to unpack zip and 7z files! Many thanks. P.
  21. Hi! Many thanks for the info and replies. That's great that you keep developing with some backward compatibility. It's very true that not everyone has the latest and greatest computer equipment all the time. I'm actually a bit suprised that FsX doesn't have widescreen 2d panels (or maybe it does?). The virtual cockpits are beautiful but sometimes it gets tiring having to pan around or change views to access buttons and stuff. 2d panels don't look nearly as realistic but sometimes their ease of use is a good plus for me (especially with airliners!). What I worry about is when TV's stop putting "TV aerial" inputs on them (coaxial?). Then my old Atari console from the 1980's will trul y become obsolete! Many thanks for the info. Very interesting to hear about what goes on in the real World. Thanks so much. How about a laptop as a tester maybe? Although I'm still a CRT fan my aunt has a new Topshiba Windows 7 laptop (not a very expenisive one) and the image quality when playing movies really is great to look at! Many thanks. P.
  22. Hi! My pleasure. I know that A320 panel forwards and backwards I've flown it so much! Although I have never even been in the cockpit of an Airbus aircraft (or any airliner) you really wrote something which captures the character of an Airbus aircraft I think. I might try Masquerade. The cover and story seem very cool only I find text adventures so hard. If you like adventure games with a good story there are many great games still coming out these days. If you ever played Pitfall on the Atari console a playstation II game called Pitfall: The Lost Expedition is a lot of fun and extremely playable. Also the King Kong game for Playstation II is good. I have heard many good things about a newer PC game called Ankh but haven't played it yet! Many thanks. P.
  23. Hi! Thought I'd try and upload a few cockpit shots I took during a short low C172 trip I flew recently. The only addon is Worldwide XClass landclass. Many thanks. Sorry they're a bit small and samey but hopefully they're not too bad(!) P.
