  1. Nice, someone that's been there and understands the importantance (yet everyone ignored your response) Ok, so about DCS. It's a different platform, a different sim, a limited coverage (it's not worldwide) When you design something meant to be an asset in a program, you design it to be the best. Then at that point, you can remove elements that cause issues based on the platform. Whether that be FSX, P3D, or XPX. This design isn't useless, it has a point. It's not like they are designing this directly in FSX. They have to start from the best model they can and then make it compatible. Software devs and game devs do this as well. If someone were to design KPDX with transparent glass that would ALSO make sense. Having been in that airport many times. There are many other airports that could use more realism as well, even just Heathrow or Gatwick. Every video I see has blank window textures. If you could even see the CHAIRS in there it would be better.
  2. Sorry, I put that in the wrong thread. I was hoping someone had any info on this? Perhaps some way to export the FS9 KPDX? All the links I found were broken. Do we have any devs working on this? ORBX was but then canceled the project. As a native Portlander, I had no idea our airport was impressive in design. I do however remember the months/years they spent building it.
  3. Which addons? That airport is extremely detailed.
  4. Others that are supported: A2A Cessna and Piper OpusFSX (verified by myself) Orbx FTX Global and Vector, as well as PNW (though the Cityscape freeware installer has NOT been updated, which is basically what makes PDX look updated, otherwise it looks somewhat default downtown, which sucks) Aerosoft Twin Otter FS Captain FS Flight School MCE As far as PDMG goes, the videos you see are hacked versions to work with P3D. Not sure if this is with the migrator or not. And PDMG will come out for P3D. They are running into licensing issues. I for one can say first hand as a composing and sound designer that a re-nogiated payment for a new platform would need to be done, as the initial license does NOT cover future projects or ports unless stated. In this case probably Turbine and Boeing only allow the initial license for FSX, and PDMG have to pay them again for P3D. It's possible that Aerosoft negotiated a license that covered all platforms so they can release right away. Same with A2A (which it's possible THEY did the sound design) This could also apply to outsource data and visuals, such as models and textures, or flight data, or outsourced programming. This business is not all work-for-hire, especially the smaller developers. My licensing agreements cover all OSs for games I do, but not sequels or spin-offs of the same game. That is definite future proofing for years to come, but you won't be able to fully use for a while due to 32bit and no SLI support.
  5. Hi guys, I'm not sure where to post this, so bear with me if I'm in the wrong forum. This is flight sim oriented. Bascially I have the Saitek Pro Flight Yoke. I also want a Logitech G27 racing wheel. I don't want to buy two stands for them. Is there a wheel stand pro unit that works with both? It seems it's just a plate you can mount on to, but they seem to sell seperate models, which seems to be a waste (unless I just want to store both for easy swapping, which I can understand)
  6. Understand that 30fps is good enough, but not the best. Putting throttling on my P3D setup actually lowered my frame rate average. Maybe it will do it for you, maybe it won't. It's one option setting. Which GPU do you have?
  7. Ed, I'd consider removing the frame rate limiter. It appears you may be able to get better performance. Have you tried that? When I would limit, my stutters seemed increase, and my frame rate average was actually lower than what I set, even if I could run unlimited at 50+.
  8. Ok, maybe not on such a huge level I was thinking. More like: - Tail winds - Wake - Real Turbulence (assuming it doesn't now?) - Failures that are due to how you treat the aircraft (much like Real Air and it's flaps issues you can have) - Stalling/Spinning - Windshear - Icing - Contaminated Runways Stuff like that. If I didn't know better I'd say you were being paid by LM. P3D is great. But...tears? I'm about to get a Titan. I'm curious to see if I see what you are seeing when things are much smoother. Though what I have is pretty smooth. Looks great. But...tears?
  9. His YT page is flooded with Lotus videos, and I tend to think a Cessna still costs more than a Lotus. It's a 250k+ plane brand new.
  10. The Bonanza A36 that comes with P3D. As far as the stutters, what lighting/shadow settings do you current have. Specifically the right pane that shows all the checkboxes for vegetation, buildings, sim objects, etc. What is your framerate limiter set to. What AA/Ani settings. And what traffic settings?
  11. Look this is probably what's going to happen. MS will maintain the activiation servers as long as people are using them. It's very possible these will never go down as OTHER products they make often use the SAME server. However, if the server is shut down it will most likely after the DVD edition is "phased out" and most people are using the Steam version. This could be many years from now. Personally I think the servers are combined, so it probably will never go down.
  12. So here's a question. What would FSX/P3D have to simulate for someone to think it's a complete flight dynamics simulation? I'm not talking about systems or ATC, but just flight. Obviously there would need to be actual force feedback and motion, but I'm thinking more of just the mechanics. Such as simulating wake (which according to Matt Davies latest video, XPX does which is kind of impressive)
  13. Er, if the engine is started isn't the APU unneeded at that point?
  14. P3D is all about stability now. Not planned features. The recent update eye-candy like because the HDR now actually WORKS. Before it was an option that did very little. Also virtual aspects of a simluation matter. Especially when it comes to seeing distance and depth, and especially if you are flying VFR. ATC isn't so much a thing needed for commercial flight simluation as the instructors provide that. Those are not syntheisized. They are real voices pieced together phrase by phrase. Most of the ATC addons use the default text-to-speech program the computer is on. So getting something like Ivona makes it sound much better. However, because of that no static or mic noise is added to it's too "clean" to sound realistic. Some ATC programs just flat out don't have the experience in recording and editing voices together to sound realistic. Microsoft did. I think there may be a way to add distortion to the path of text-to-speech, but I haven't tried it yet. I've even played with the idea to output ATC to a guitar amp (a small battery powered amp) However, I haven't gotten any 3rd party ATC yet, as it's up in the air for P3D.
  15. Hm, that is unacceptable to me if I get what you are saying. The Airbus X Extended is listed as being for FSX/P3D. Yet, to install this properly you need a paid for migration tool in order for it to work flawlessly? Native installers should be included with software that is stated as P3D ready.
  16. Systems wise it looks superb, but built more for actual physical cockpit sims. 3d cockpit is pretty important if you are on a single computer with almost no hardware.
  17. Isn't AXE a native P3D installer? As far as other stuff, like the airports. I don't think there are native airports for P3D yet. Also I highly suggest you TURN OFF overclocking on your GPU. And don't max OC your CPU either.
  18. I feel that my suggestions are probably not even warranted, because I haven't even flown a tubeliner yet. I've just been addicted to this fad. Watching every video, looking at every post and discussion. There have been some VAs where people say they are fun because they often interact with other VAs, and using VATSIM makes it even better. I think of VAs as guilds in World of Warcraft (or whatever poison you prefer) some are seriously hardcore to the letter, and some are just "do whatever you want" I'm fairly certain the virtual airlines based off a real airline probably have a lot of crazy hardcore aspects to it. That would make it fun for me personally.
  19. OP: Have you tried FSCaptain? It makes each flight have a point to it. I think AirHauler is like this too, but I believe AirHauler is more like building your own airline. I'm more of a fan of being the grunt of the airline, not the CEO. In fact I really wish someone would make an addon that gives you the full experience, no matter how tedious or boring. Something to do in between flights. Heck maybe even add gaming like RPG interaction with fellow flight crew. I like consequences. I feel with the PMDG failures and realism, someone could make a really great addon that gives that. EDIT: Of course there are VAs as well, which is probably the best choice. But not everyone likes the idea of real interaction.
  20. You have the starter valve on though (set to GND). It's expect to keep a bit of speed until you give it full fuel.
  21. It's a valid question. He just wants to know what the real factor is that P3D is better. The videos don't do any sim justice. Even on Twitch source quality you still don't see the full quality you see on your own computer. And some videos even blur a bit to hide the edges. For anyone that has FSX and tons of addons, I wouldn't switch just yet. The market has to shift. P3D has to be a thing for devs to support constantly and consistently. And while P3D is based on the same engine, it's going to get more different as time develops, and it won't be a simple port over like some addons get now. Which means some, if not most devs, will charge seperately for it. For anyone like me, that is just getting into flight simming. P3D is ideal. It's a clean slate that I can start from. XPX hopefully will get into that realm as well, but there is a vast difference in developing addons for XPX vs. P3D. XPX getting on steam may change things a bit. It may even beat P3D due to the licensing issues. For me P3D has these benefits: - HDR lighting that doesn't require an addon. - CFG that doesn't require massive tweaks - Smooth performance you can get without addons like Fiber Accelerator - Volumetric Fog, which looks pretty fantastic. - DX11 support, which gets you smoother performance, shadows, and really great night lighting (with ORBX arguably, the default lighting is like FSX) - Constant support - Possible 64bit conversion later on - Developer isn't exactly new, or lacking money. In fact I'd say they just hired the previous devs and said "Here, keep doing what you were doing" Here are the cons for me compared to WHAT I'VE SEEN with FSX: - Lack of addon support from specified addon developers like PMDG - Cost of addons due to license - EULA issues (you know what I'm talking about) - The scenario dialogue is a bit lacking for P3D. FSX is better. - Many addons that work with FSX the devs are gone, and don't seem to be coming back. - P3D is forever changing, therefore devs have to keep up with P3D updates, causing bugs and other issues. That's all I could think about currently. NOTE: I didn't add anything due to nVidia support, because I refuse to believe nVidia isn't supporting P3D. They are just late on it. The next update will have the tesselation fix (that has already been stated before) Also note: FSX development could change depending on what Dovetail does to it, so it isn't dead.
  22. Rob, I own the Airline2Sim videos. I totally recommend them. They also are planning to do more situations, especially when Pro comes out. I don't even own the Q400 yet but I'm obsessed with it. I bought the printed checklist just to put in my cubicle at work... I cannot WAIT till the pro version comes out. Failures to me are paramount. I hate the fact that some skip them. Even PMDG isn't including them in the DC6 (according to a fairly old post I read)
  23. FSX will be on Steam, and there's no real information on what will be done with it past supporting multiplayer with it. I feel that DTG may have a bit more ability to code and fix FSX than people think. They would need to fix all the immediate glaring issues before going on Steam. Otherwise it will be tore to bits. Stutters, auto-gen popping, and any other "unfinished" looking mechanics have to be fixed before going on a platform that is subject to a lot of....crazy gamers.
