Sorry for the 7-year-old reply, but yes it solves the graphics issues and stuff (I had missing textures (default ones!) and changing it to one worked)

Dusty Crophopper for FSX?
That is if you want to use the default aircraft. If not, it probably is the AT-502 (but the P-51 is way faster than the AT-502, the AT can only fly at 400 km/h while the P-51 can manage 700 km/h)

Dusty Crophopper for FSX?
Actually I think the default P-51 Mustang CAN be used. Dusty IS in fact a P-51 Mustang and a simple repaint (with those eyes) can help.

Exactly what i'm doing now.

Windows 8 - Joystick Megathread problem.
I found out a fix (no test flight, but it should work) Connect Controller using FSUIPC instead of using FSX. Video here (its expensive but worth it) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRGPNVtf2Cw

Windows 8 - Joystick Megathread problem.
If you want solid joystick performance, don't install FSXAssist. It sometimes will still fail, like my Singapore-Brussels test flight. Only option: Windows 10 Technical Preview. (Which I will not care about those complicated stuff)

Windows 8 - Joystick Megathread problem.
Good, you use the same joystick as me (more relevant). However, I don't use 2 monitors (probably does not matter) First, delete those registry files as I said on page 54 Then, buy FSXAssist (no other way, but if it works, its worth it) It worked for me! Alternatively, you can use Windows 10 Technical Preview (a complicated process where you have to backup your Windows disc etc.). dmiannay has tested it out, and it worked for him (see pages 53 to 56) If you use FSXAssist, make sure to restart FSX after EVERY flight. If not, FSXAssist would not work for the subsequent flights. Hope this works! I'm doing another test flight (2 flights in a row! Dubai-Singapore-Brussels). See if FSXAssist works. If it does, success! I tried doing it once but I aborted takeoff (joystick fails at 110 knots) UPDATE: knew it wouldn't work. Restarting FSX...

Windows 8 - Joystick Megathread problem.
No disconnects! (even though I reset the flight thrice) Seems to disconnect very randomly. (maybe the EnumerationRetryCount value did matter after all...)

Windows 8 - Joystick Megathread problem.
Maybe not, I was wondering if the Joystick Disconnect after Parking (normally after 1 hour) would count... It does disconnect if I start a new flight (np for me, I could just restart FSX) Thought of doing one last test flight (Same flight, but clicked "reset" once) P.S If FSXAssist shows 'FSX is Restarting', then is FSXAssist connected to FSX?

Windows 8 - Joystick Megathread problem.
Well, It happened again. I'm afraid I have to call that 30 day policy into place if it happens again. (This time round I did not reset the flight or change aircraft...) Next test will be from Cape Town the Dubai (9 hours) Time for Windows 10 TP (another $30 gone, thanks to microsoft trying to wipe out everything in my current drive if I use it)

Windows 8 - Joystick Megathread problem.
Finally, FSXAssist started to not work for once. The "controller engaged" button does not mean anything, and the controller is gone during taxi to the gate. For the first time. Don't know if it is gonna get worse (I did not reset flight, and this is the first flight) Changing aircraft will cause this problem, as well as changing scenery settings, etc. If that loading screen comes up (not the blue one), will FSXAssist still work? I'm losing patience, I'm gonna use Windows 10 TP for the sake of FSX. How do I reinstall Windows 8 afterwards (not gonna buy another hard disk for $50 for the sake of this). They said Warning Creating a recovery drive will erase anything already stored on your USB flash drive. Use an empty USB flash drive or make sure to transfer any important data from your USB flash drive to another storage device before using it to create a USB recovery drive. And do I need to reinstall FSX if I go back to Windows 8?

Windows 8 - Joystick Megathread problem.
Thanks! FYI I did not notice any problems with the blurry ground textures though, and I finally made my first smooth landing since I used windows 8 (-89fpm) Thank you to the team at SkyPilot! Anyways, how do I use the "App path"? I'm confused with the documents saying "exe.xml" files. Most of the addons are either scenery (.bgl) or .dll, not .exe or .xml

Windows 8 - Joystick Megathread problem.
I experience problems when using FSXAssist When it is ran, the FS sounds have a lot of static. Yes, it is comforting that I know that FSXAssist is doing its job, but the static is also very annoying.

Windows 8 - Joystick Megathread problem.
For FSXAssist, I think it only works for the first flight (it disconnects if I don't restart FSX and FSXAssist) And for the subsequent flights, the "Controller Engaged" text does not do anything. Anyways, another satisfied customer (for now) I'll do it if joystick disconnects again (hopefully not!)

Windows 8 - Joystick Megathread problem.
I think you can get Windows 10 for "free" if you join the technical preview and use all the updates. Just don't buy it at the end. Still hesitating to install Windows 10TP... afraid something wrong will happen to my pc

Windows 8 - Joystick Megathread problem.
Hopefully. Even with FSXAssist if I start 3 flights the third one and the joystick will disconnect :(

Windows 8 - Joystick Megathread problem.
Well, FSX Assist worked! (I did my first landing with the joystick, but it ended up -600fpm because the scenery blocked my view and i was landing runway 27 at TNCM...) Thanks SkyPilot software! That's the fix. It costs you some money, but in the end, worth it. But still, if you are using windows 7, don't change to windows 8. The new start menu is ####

Windows 8 - Joystick Megathread problem.
Test 1: Climb to FL390, descent to FL330. Joystick normally disconnects when descending, so I'd test it out if FSXAssist helps avoid this. Answer: Yes. "Joystick Engaged" suggests that it was disconnected for a little while Test 2: "Landing" Test. Joystick normally disconnects here as well. (will have to reduce speed to 250 knots). Answer: Yes. Note that FSXAssist said "Joystick Engaged" when I slow down (really?) AND when my gear goes down (well, FSX on Windows 8 is so risky). Thanks FSX Assist! Test 3: Fiddle with the autopilot controls. Pressing these buttons sometimes disconnects the joystick. Answer: Yes. Well the joystick disconnected AGAIN for the 5th AND 6th time during the test when I "played" with the NAV hold switch and autothrottle. FSXAssist checklist completed. Real test 6 hours later (the real landing) P.S I carried 504 passengers and tested out the plane. Don't know if they noticed

Good. But if I install Windows 10TP do I need to reinstall FSX?

Windows 8 - Joystick Megathread problem.
If I do a "livestick" landing the first time in forever (almost literally!) then the money is worth it! I'm doing a 9 hour test flight to see how it goes

Windows 8 - Joystick Megathread problem.
Resorting to FSXAssist (NOTHING works!). Praying that it's $30 well spent. (local currency)

Windows 8 - Joystick Megathread problem.
I just hope there is an update that fixes this problem soon... unless my fix works Can't afford FSXAssist (too expensive...) Although I actually deleted all the registry files in that particular folder but EnumerationRetryCount cannot be deleted (does this have any effect?) P.S. My old Windows 7 computer actually had the "turn off this device to save power" box checked and "selective suspend" enabled. The only difference is the registry (of the three) which Windows 7 only had (Default) and SymbolicName while the one on Windows 8 have all sorts of EnhancedPowerManagement bla bla bla... making me think that those entries have something to do with it UPDATE: 9 hours on, Joystick is still good. Although 80% of joystick failures come in around Approach and Landing, we'll see how. UPDATE: Total fail. One descent starts, its gone.

Windows 8 - Joystick Megathread problem.
I may have a solution. The joystick connects for 9 hours straight, without disconnects (even with Alt-tabbing) Firstly, follow the steps shown in http://forum.avsim.net/topic/421313-possible-solution-windows-8-and-81-joystick-solution-for-fsx-and-prepar3d/. However, also change the "Turn off hard disk after" to Never in the Power Options setting (I think that the OS treats the joystick as a "hard disk". Also delete all the registries in that folder except (Default), EnumerationRetryCount and SymbolicName. Also uncheck ALL "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" options under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" and "Human Interface Devices" (All, regardless of what it says) Sorry, but this thread does not allow images Do this at your own risk (I'm using Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, the registry options may not work). Just make sure to come back to FSX and do some stuff using the joystick (turn the rudder, or whatever) every 20 mins. I'm running test flight 2, will update after it is completed (Cape Town to Munich) Source: My old windows 7 computer where I copied the registry settings from

FSXAssist Released!
Hi Allen I have the joystick connection problem. However, I feel that FSX Assist is a little overpriced. Can I get it for USD$12? (It does not matter if you send me a copy that only has the joystick connect function). I live in Asia, meaning that USD$20 is not very affordable. Thanks, Jerry
