...and another step on top of the climb!Hopefully, I do not applaud too early...but the first attempt downloading offline winds works GREAT! :-yellow1Now the datas will be a bit longer in coming, but they come.I think, you are probably set the timeout threshold slightly higher - and that is GOOD! :-rotorYes, at this time 1.8rc1 has got in its hand to become the 'finalist'.

hmm...one minor question:AS put the timezone-setting now to '+1' automatically.According to your notes about daylight savings some days ago, this value must to be set to '+2' here in central europe - or do you use other hardcodings to consider this fact?

Hi Chris,Hmmm, this may be a bug, there are some other problems reported at GMT +1 locations as well. It SHOULD add 1 during DST so yes this should be +2. I'll look into it.. Chris,Please check your time settings, under TIME ZONE, "Automatically adjust clock for Daylight Savings Time" should be checked. If this isn't checked, try checking it and let me know if it fixes it.. thanks!-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table

"Automatically adjust clock for Daylight Savings Time" is already checked...

Damian,You have hard coded in the installation process to C:Program Files. I have the program installed on my D drive at D:Program Files. I had to manually move the files. This should be fixed for the next update.Bob

Bob,I have ASky installed on D:/AskyWX.Why aren't you changing the install path when you're asked?

Hi I also am wondering how anything is hardcoded? The working dir is always the one you load with the wxre icon working folder properties (your install dir by default) and nothing should be hardcoded here. Then again, maybe Bob has found some insight into this loop error? I have just tried some tests with various drives and folder names and it still all works OK for me here! Unable to duplicate this still! It seems to be affecting random users in any location, any time zone, on any OS/machine! Nothing to isolate this yet, but I'm sure we'll get to the bottom of it shortly. Those having these loop errors, please add this line to wxre.ini:AutoTimeZoneDetection = FalseAnd manually set your UTC conversion value until we can figure this one out.. Thanks!-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table

Hi Damian,The reason for my comment about being hard coded was based on the observation during install that the update defaulted to C:Program Files. Since I have installed it there, I cannot perform the update install again, unless I un-install 1.8update and try again. Since I am working just fine, I really don't want to un-install just for the sake of a test. However during any of your de-bugging routines you may look to see if you can change the drive designation during the installation process. If you do a RC2 for v1.8, I will really take a careful look to see if this was "operator error" or a design issue.Bob

Hi Damian,Just to let you know I have the 'Configuration/loop' error after just updating to V1.8.OS is Win98SE, Time zone is London UK and 'Automatically adjust clock...' is ticked.ActiveSky is running on 2nd PC (direct connection to Net) and linked to FS PC via Widefs.Adding the 'AutoTimeZoneDetection = False' line allowed ActiveSky to start but then I got the 'aloft server response invalid' message. It now looks as if ActiveSky has locked; 'Cloud layer conflict in METAR, skipping transition'.'METAR Report Initializing', 'Please wait for processing to complete..'FS is at YSSY (Sydney, Australia). Started AS a second time and this time the processing completed but still had the 'aloft server..' error. Thanks for all your dedication in ironing out these little 'bugs', guess you'll have to start all over again when FS2004 ships ;-)Rgds

Hi Everyone.. here's a quick beta test update for v1.8..RC1 has problems with auto time zone detection on some systems. It appears to be related to the routines used to access the time zone information from Windows. This is being worked on now. Some users are still reporting occasional timeouts, but the frequency has vastly decreased. I believe we have solved this for the most part.. When the server or internet is beyond successful communication despite all the new error handling routines/retries in wxRE, there can still be a timeout and there is nothing we can do about that. If you are experiencing timeouts with any frequency, please let me know. Some users are still reporting "Server response invalid, retrying..." as a bug... This is not a bug this is a normal information message telling you the aloft server (GOV) gave a buggy response so wxRE is trying again. I am probably just going to remove this message entirely as the amount of "bug reports" coming in on this are very high. Thanks to everyone for their help!!, I will have RC2 ready in a couple days which will hopefully a winner. -Damian

If you are experiencing timeouts with any frequency, please let me know.Since installing 1.8 i've tryed 8 times with 7 timeout errors. Dialup here with(at best)26.4kb speed(yuk). Experienced slightly better reliability with 1.7.Thanks for your continued work though Damian. BTW, in another thread you mentioned the average size of downloaded data is 5 meg.(3 day winds)? Is this true? 5 meg. divided by 26.4....ughbroadband challenged indeedIn that same thread you mentioned a possibility of being able to download data for specific areas rather than world-wide data. That would be a nice feature(continental U.S. only flyer here).
