March 29, 200521 yr Commercial Member Hi Scott!Something is wrong, it may be FSUIPC related. We had some numerous reports like this a couple builds ago but have since not received any (now with FSUIPC 3.47). Remember that AS forces FSUIPC wind smoothing on, and if you are getting failure of wind smoothing (unrelated to AS), we need to look at the FSUIPC installation or other possible FSUIPC issues. The baro fluctuations could be related. Please feel free to e-mail me with some of your flight details and settings files (.pln, current_wx_snapshot, as2004.ini) @ [email protected]. I will try and reproduce your condition...Thanks! Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
March 29, 200521 yr Commercial Member Hi all,Thanks for all the words of encouragement! To respond to a few questions raised:There will be an upgrade path for AS2004.5 to ASV. Pricing and details are yet to be determined. Looking at the history of our past product launches and upgrade offerings, they are usually offered for about 25% off the non-upgrade version. ASV should be similar but again this is all still up in the air at the moment. There will be no "tiered" upgrade pricing based on when you purchased AS2004.5. As long as you are an official AS2004.5 user you are entitled to the full discount pricing. The upgrade will most likely require that you have AS2004.5 installed on your system (to verify upgrade qualification), so please keep it handy & backed-up!We are in final development and there is no official ETA. It could take 2 weeks, it could take 2 months. But obviously we are trying to get it done (right) as soon as possible. We will be issuing progress reports and all kinds of new information (and screenshots) from now until release time.AS2004.5 will continue to be supported for an indefinite period of time after release of ASV. There are no plans to stop continued updates (of AS2004.5), but any such updates will be focused on fixing any issues as they arise, and not for adding new features or functionality. Such new code will be reserved for ASV (and beyond). There are no plans to stop AS2004.5 server data access (and associated maintenance), and it should be available for at least another year (and possibly much longer).AE is based on Chris's FSW(2004) efforts, but goes much further beyond this. There are literally thousands of textures and new variations, edge types, classes, etc. ICS (intelligent cloud selection) is meant to be used before your flight based on your analyzed route conditions. ASV will attempt to find the best match (there are also some random factors here, to keep things dynamic and realistic). It will also select appropriate matched cirrus textures that can change throughout your flight. We have no solid information concerning any new version of FS, but as always, we will attempt to keep our products as compatible and up-to-date as possible with new FS versions and/or other new technologies. I hope that answers a few questions. I wish I could get into more detail but that is all we can release at this time! We are working hard and "head down" while we finish final development. We may not be so active in the forums until after release time, but we will be by every now and then to handle any support issues and give progress reports (and maybe a few teasing pics now and again!).Thanks again all for the enthusiasm, we can't wait to show you more!Best, Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
March 29, 200521 yr >The upgrade will most likely require that you have AS2004.5>installed on your system (to verify upgrade qualification), so>please keep it handy & backed-up!Damian, I would like you to look into the possibility of a full final install package for upgrade customers too. I know some administration is involved in this. However, I don't like the wxRE situation I have when re-installing AS2004. I can imagine why you go this way, but technically speaking it's not 'proper': first install software that you don't intend to use at all, then install an upgrade, then remove the unused old version. Now people say 'no big deal. I never re-install anyway'. However, I like to checkout sceneries, tools, aircraft etc. It happens I choose to reinstall FS in certain circumstances... :( :-hah :-halo Looking forward to ASV!
March 29, 200521 yr I have used and loved all AS versions, from the first freeware one, until the last AS2004. No doubt I will get this one as soon as it is availableDamian,Some questions:1) Will you add some different types of turbulence. In AS2004 you already have typical cloud, clear air and wake turbulence. What about microbursts or mountain turbulence?2) Regarding the previous point. Will be it be possible to allow AS to manage winds in such way we don't need FSUIPC smoothing changes. What I mean is if there will be a way to get real gusts and wind shear, and smoother changes when changes should be smooth. I know this can be achieved now by using the FP feature, but anyway sometimes wind can change too fast when a new station is loaded.3) For what I understand the new version will bring lots of textures that will be loaded to FS as they are needed. It sounds that function is pretty complicated to achieve with AS running in a slave machine, connected with WideFS. Will it still be possible to have the AS running in a slave PC, or will it become mandatory to keep it in the FS computer? Thanks for everything,Leo
March 29, 200521 yr Damian and ChrisOne the of the nice features of FSW for 2004 are the high performance cloud set. I do like the dynamic feature proposed for ASV, but I am curious how much of a hit will the new cloud sets have on performance and will be there be an option in ASV for perfomance cloud types? This really sounds like a great project, and look forward to upgrading my AS4.5. BTW, build 182 is working just flawless for me now.CheersBob
March 30, 200521 yr One thing I noticed was missing in the press release was any mention of an upgraded Active Radar.I really enjoy the Active Radar feature despite it's frame hits.Any possibility that this feature will be revamped?Glenn D. Willmot
March 30, 200521 yr Bob,As build 182 is working "flawless" for you, could you tell me whether you have the purchased version of FSUIPC, or the bare bones "free" one?
March 30, 200521 yr I have the purchased registration. Pete Dowson is on my Radar Contact development/beta test team :-). Worth every penny IMHO.Bob
March 31, 200521 yr I don't know.....maybe someone will answer soon.Best wishesGlenn D. March 31, 200521 yr I have to agree that some cost is justified for the upgrade, but a whole new program when 4.5 is few months old would cause me to pass............even auto mfgrs. give loalty pricing
April 3, 200521 yr Commercial Member Hi Glenn,No updates to "AR" are planned at this time, sorry. The WC2 display system written by Keith Kile (which AR uses) is limited in graphics performance and re-writing this is out of our ASV development scope. However, we have started working on a brand new module (gauge) but this will not debut in ASV. It is very early in development and may take a year or so to complete.Best, Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
April 3, 200521 yr First, I would like to say that as a long time user of ActiveSky, I will very likely purchase ASV the day it is released.Questions:1. The biggest impact on FPS comes from weather. Will the new version of AS help in this regard?2. Will the new version of AS run under WideFS?3. I would also like to have an full installation upgrade rather than an upgrade that requires previous versions to be installed. This is a pain when you need to build a FS install from scratch.Thx,Dean
April 6, 200521 yr Commercial Member Hi Dean,Yes we have provided solutions on all 3 items and much much more... :)Best, Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
April 6, 200521 yr Thanks for the reply.....I can wait.Glenn D. Willmot>Hi Glenn,>>No updates to "AR" are planned at this time, sorry.
