The much over-looked 'OTHER' video driver of your system....

Featured Replies

How many of you are using XP's or W98SE's standard Microsoft-supplied VIDEO MONITOR DRIVER for your CRT or Flat-Screen?If you are, you could be cheating yourself out of added video performance giving crisper, clearer images on your monitor.Features could be not available as well.I own a ViewSonic A90 19 inch monitor, and after downloading the latest DEDICATED driver from ViewSonic's site for my A90, lo and behold, I picked up THREE extra scan-rates that the default Windows driver from Microsoft did not offer me. The result of using the dedicated driver from ViewSonic is less strain on the eyes, (running now at 100 MHz scan rate) and clearer graphics with no more MOIRE (that jittery, hazing thing we sometimes blame our VIDEO CARD and driver upon)Go and get the latest DEDICATED VIDEO MONITOR DRIVER for your CRT from the manufacturer and you'll notice a boost in video output and performance you didn't know your equipment was capable of.Enjoy!Mitch R.

good point, my 19 inch CRT monitor installs as a default plug and play monitorand this gives me a max refresh rate of 85 and only the usual default screen resolutions of 800 x 600, 1024 x 768 and 1200 x 1600, by using the drivers from the manufacturer (Belinea), i got the full range screen resolutions (about 12) and refresh rates of 100 even for the 1152 x 864 that i now use.

Hey there, Bruce! The Microsoft XP driver for my unit only gave me refresh rates to 85 MHz. By installing the manu's CRT drivers, I got up to 120 MHz. Since having set the refresh to 100 Mhz, the scenery, especially ground textures don't flicker, or move with that dreaded MOIRE pattern. While at 85 MHz, I did see some of that.By upping your CRT refresh rate to at least 100 (if your CRT supports that via the manu's drivers) you see a truly better rendering of what your video card puts out. The monitor is in fact, the end of the line, and really could be the weakest link in the graphics chain, with a driver not especially written for it.Cheers!Mitch R.

Good tip Mitch! You know, I stumbled upon this fact a few weeks back - I really wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it myself. I had an old HP monitor that finally died. I went out and purchased a samsung (not the best brand, but in my price range) 19". My system loved me for it. MUCH better all around performance - it can be said that one bad driver can really handicap a system, and that HP monitor with a 6 year-old driver or generic driver was really hanicapping mine. Best,sg

Yeppers...I absolutely agree! That 'last, final' tweak of my video system was when I went and searched out the actual driver made to run my monitor off of ViewSonics's website.By the way, if anybody else has a ViewSonic, that is not new by a year or less, download the XP UNSIGNED DRIVERS SUITE. In that driver suite, you will find your DEDICATED driver for your older ViewSonic.Does it make a difference?OH YEAH! OH YEAH! It was that final 'perfect pinch of salt' into the Video Stew......Rock-Solid graphics, where the monitor now no-longer acts as a take-down filter for the performance of my video card. Trust me on this folks, unless you are running the driver DESIGNED to run your CRT, you are NOT getting 100 percent performance from it. Microsoft's drivers are said to be plug 'n play (generic) for a reason...'cause they are! They'll run your CRT/Flat-Screen, but they won't drive it to full potential!!! The DEDICATED drivers were written to accomplish that feat!Cheers!Mitch R.

I had to really search for the drivers to my monitor. The front says it's made by Tiny Computers but I know they get them from somewhere else. A search on the net (using the FCC ID)provided the information that my one is (was) made by LG Electronics. I found the driver and installed. Now I appear to have a maximum refresh of 100hz rather than 85hz.

You should set it to 100 MHz as soon as possible. You will notice much greater performance, as well as no eye strain (due to no refresh flickering) on ya.I think that you will find an overall, better rendering from your video card/output.Cheers!Mitch R.

Just a note for y'all that vertical refresh is specified in Hz, not MHz. I run 85 Hz refresh myself on all monitors.Gary

Thanks for the head's up Gary. Ok, I have my monitor at 100 Hz, not Mhz. :)Cheers!Mitch R.

Does anyone know who made Gateway's FD1810 -i8 in LCD with both digital & analog inputs. I thought I heard it was LG.
