What's a great LCD monitor for FS9?

Very good point: actually when I bought my SONY CRT Trinitron 21" three to four years ago, it was similar--a large CRT did not necessarily guarantee a superior anything. It now seems that the LCD part of the industry is going through a similar developmental phase, and I understand that a relatively huge LCD screen might not necessarily assure a superior anything as well.JS

I would like to stick with 1600x myself. Though you have to see it to believe it, the XBRITE that is. I just bought a Sony notebook with an XBRIGHT screen, and it is definitely an awesome image. I am hopefully going to be able to wait til 1600x1200 at 12ms response, with pixel pitch of .25 or better. Currently, if you can part with the $1650, this is one to consider, despite its aspect ratio:Description: M9178LLA Silver 23" Cinema HD LCD Display (23", 1920x1200, .258mm, DVI, PC/Mac) Manufacturer: Apple Lowest Price: $1,650.00 User Rating: Not Rated Detailed Specifications Included Devices: Monitor Stand, USB Hub Aspect Ratio: 16:9 (Widescreen) Brightness: 270 nits Color Depth: 16.7 Million Colors (24-bit) Contrast Ratio: 400:1 Diagonal Size: 23 in Interface: Digital Interface Type: IEEE 1394 - 6 pin Powered, USB - Universal Serial Bus, Video - 24 pin DVI-D Monitor Color: Silver Mounting: Desktop, Wallmount Pitch: 0.258 mm Resolution: 1920 x 1200 Response Time: 16 ms System Type: Apple Macintosh, PC Video Standards: HDTV Viewable Size: 23 in Horizontal Viewing Angle: 170 degrees Vertical Viewing Angle: 170 degrees Dimensions Height: 17.7 in Width: 21.1 in Depth: 7.3 in Weight: 15.5 lbs Note the native resolution, response time, brightness, viewing angle, pitch, and display size. I'd also check out Fry Electronics for prices, havent found a place yet which beats them, and they do ship. They have a website http://outpost.com Bob

If you use a Nav program, FSNav is great on a second monitor. Its like having a close up of a chart to fly with.

I will never come back as well since using LCD screens for the last 4 years. Spending 10 hours a day in front of it, I find it also less straining for the eyes...Something to also get advantage from when transitioning from CRT to LCD:1) Right click on your desktop to open Display Properties popup.2) select the Appearance TAB3) click on the Effect button4) select the "use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts" box5) in the drop down list, select "ClearType".You'll never come back either! this basically uses the LCD Red/Green/Blue physical pixels on your monitor to virtually multiply by 3 the horizontal resolution for displaying text. Reading text on a 17" monitor in 1280x1024 with ClearType, is almost as fine as reading a 1200dpi printed page.... :-)Enjoy!

>I use the Samsung Syncmaster 213T >>It's a 21.3" LCD, native resolution of 1600 x 1200.>>I have it connected using the DVI connector to a Radeon 9800>Pro.>Don't we get another problem here? I mean if you are stuck to use 1600*1200 does this not affect performence in FS (and other games as well)? I mean more power is needed for higher resolution.

There are definitely pros and cons. One problem I see is that you still have to pay lots of dollars for the best CRT. And I also maintain, the CRT I am looking at is superior in most ways to LCDs available today, but this CRT is now $1,700, and that just seems like too much for any CRT today, though as I say, this one is quite good in every way. (ok, except for more radiation and static elec).Noel

I'm have not seen this one, but it is an NEC 19" with a 16 ms response time, all for under $500.00. I'm sure there is a trade-off somewhere, but if someone is on a tight budget, then it might be the answer.Check this one out:http://www.provantage.com/buy-7NECL04R-nec...2v-shopping.htm Wilson

Just made the switch when i built my new computer. I love my LCD. I recently got on my old CRT and could not believe i had been on it for so long. With that rounded picture, and that terrible glare. My lcd displays a 100% picture perfect screen. FS looks great. But the night sky is not as bold. Bothered me some at first, but now, i could care less, and i love my monitor more and more every day.AOpen 17" LCD

No problem for me.I'm happily running FS9 at 1600 x 1200 on my machine. In fact I couldn't stand to run it at anything less to be honest. The 9800 pro handles this resolution with no issues at all even with AA and AFRegards,Glenn
