July 9, 200520 yr This may sound stupid but what will this mean for FS2004. Will it be compatible with the 64bit, or will they make a patch or something like that?
July 21, 200520 yr FS2004 runs flawlessly with Windows x64. I have been running x64 exclusively for 2 months now and I have had nothing weird happen with FS2004. As far as performance, there is nor will there be, and real advantage to going over to x64 for FS2004 since it isn't a 64-bit application. I've noticed more *smoothness* and there is a few fps increase due to the underlying 64-bit Hard drive, CPU/GPU drivers delivering a wider datapath. Still it is not going to cause anyone to do backflips. The same goes for all my addons from FSBUILD to FE, Activesky V, etc. All run fine under x64 along with my hardware CH Throttles, Pedals and AETI Yoke. x64 will runn all of your newer 32 bit programs. The only caviat are those that link to 32bit hardware drivers. For instance, iTunes loads up fine and works properly but I cannot burn CDs directly because it has its own 32-bit hardware drivers that don't work under x64.Considering the time and energy required to get x64 up and running and the fact that many older (and some newer) programs will not be compatible, one has to decide if the upgrade is worth it. For me, everything I require runs under x64, so I've made the final decision to stay with an all 64 bit operating system. The major issue with x64 is gathering all of your basic hardware drivers all in one place. The trick is to get your network card and base hardware drivers to work and from that point it requires you to go to all your vendor sites and download x64 drivers. This took me about a week to get everything and THANK GOD for Google.Hope this helps.Mike T
July 21, 200520 yr Thanks for that one Mike I have been hovering about this one for weeks now,I have got most of my drivers, but I am now going to wait for a whileThanks again .Rex.
