November 29, 200718 yr WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!!!Aside from the apparent wide view in windows and big screen, the quality of the panel and the sheer SIZE of it. Wow.Now I am a happy simmer - screen wise :) Only thing that I was looking for was a screen that can scale and look good at the same time: scale FS9 into 1600x1200, and run the screen with black bars - awesome. And if I wish for wide view, also can set it up for that. All on the fly. Also, I love the quality over the 226BW, which I have just tested prior to 245B. Took both from the shop home for testing :)But the size...omg the size :D I just can't stop staring into it :DEDIT: The best of two worlds imo... both for 4:3 aspect ratio and 16:10.
November 29, 200718 yr I too just purchased a 245BW and I agree completely. Comming from a NEC 19" which was no slouch, the difference is something else.
November 29, 200718 yr Offhand, what is the response time on the 245B? Is that the 8ms one?RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
November 29, 200718 yr Welcome to the 245BW club! :)Great monitor. I am now looking into a Samsung Blu-Ray 1400 player as our monitor is a true 1080p unit. :)Mitch
November 29, 200718 yr Yep...but...on the 245BW Samsung website, it now says that it is a 5ms unit.Oh, BTW, I have a 19 inch with a 5ms response time and it is not better than my 245BW with 8ms response. I include the viewing of movies as well as flight simulation. The 245BW made a MAJOR improvement in my flight simming enjoyment!Mitch
November 30, 200718 yr Ehh, for movies I have my 32" Samsung, but that one ain't 1080p unit. Movie nights on PC aren't my thing :)But for some checking, it's definitely up to the job hehe...Absolutely love it.
November 30, 200718 yr It's a TN panel, so how is it in terms of off-center viewing color variation and black level? I am thinking I would rather have a S-IPS panel for these reasons. I have a TN panel now from Samsung, and the higher black levels and poor off-center viewing makes me less interested in TN panel LCDs--but it's only what I've read. Noel System: 9900X3D Noctua NH-D15 G2, MSI Pro 650-P WiFi, G.SKILL 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000, WD NVMe 2Tb x 1, Sabrent NVMe 2Tb x 1, RTX 4090 FE, Corsair RM1000W PSU, Win11 Home, LG Ultra Curved Gsync Ultimate 3440x1440, Phanteks Enthoo Pro Case, TCA Boeing Edition Yoke & TQ, Cessna Trim Wheel, RTSS Framerate Limiter w/ Front Edge Sync. Aircraft used in MSFS 2024: Fenix A320, Aerosoft CRJ, FBW, WT 787X, I-Fly 737 MAX 8, Citation Longitude.
November 30, 200718 yr I say, it's for what it costs, OK. It's *NOT* what IPS delivers (in terms of colors, black depth and viewing angle). Though, I can't detect any ghosting problems... 5ms really happen to be true. Black levels are much better than any other LCD I have seen though - IMO totally satisfying. Though, typical problem of vertical off-center viewing is apparent. But you can easily compensate, because you can slide the monitor up and down, and swivel it also. No matter how you sit, you *can* set it to view it properly.

Movie nights on PC aren't my thing :)>>But for some checking, it's definitely up to the job hehe...>>Absolutely love it.----------------------------------------Yes...this monitor and the X1950 Pro were two fabulous hardware purchases of late. I'm thinking today of going out and checking out Blu-Ray players (Samsung,Sony,Panasonic)$399.00 to the $599.00 level. I don't have a high def dedicated T.V. and can't wait to see the muscle of the 245BW in 1080p mode!!!! I also have 7.1 Dolby from my sound card and Bose speakers being driven by it. I have a quite comfortable computer chair that will make me feel like I'm at the movies, being that the 24 inch display is about 14 inches from my face. :)Drooling all over the keyboard....have to type fast before it shorts out, LOL!Mitch
November 30, 200718 yr If you really want something awsome, try the Westinghouse 1080p 42"!! Now that makes FS something to behold!! I LOVE IT........

It is no problem with the round instrument getting oval in FS9 but you don't use the full screen in this case or?
December 1, 200718 yr >If you really want something awsome, try the Westinghouse>1080p 42"!! Now that makes FS something to behold!! I LOVE>IT........The resolution of 1920 on a 42 inch is terrible. Pixels are too big. Though you do have it further away probably, but still, it's different than having a monitor up close. Maybe 42" with higher resolution would make more sense, something in ways of 3840 pixels, now THAT would be a screen :)
December 1, 200718 yr >Let's see if I understand it correctly. It is no problem with>the round instrument getting oval in FS9 but you don't use the>full screen in this case or? That is correct. I use the resolution of 1600x1200, SCALED on the monitor. Meaning, it does not "resize", but rather it only cuts off the sides. Much better than resizing panels in FS9.

Much better than resizing panels in FS9.But still an disadvantage in FS9. How big are the sides? Would you consider it well invested monoey if you only use FS9 and not FSX (which has settings for wideview)?
December 1, 200718 yr Where is a disadvantage?! I have a big monitor, which can scale down to 1600x1200, meaning, using complete vertical side and a part of the horizontal side, maintaining native resolution. The last point being the most important. All that of course maintaining round gauges. There is basically no possibility of having both wide and 4:3 for FS9, expect if you scale like this. In the end, I can use FS9 in both 1600x1200 (4:3) or 1920x1200 (16:19), depending what and how I wish to fly.I consider it very well invested money.
