LCD screen question

Featured Replies

I am checking prices for a new screen. What size should I consider 21", 24". Does the video card have some important role in allowing the screen to operate at its optimum. What are the best combos some of the simmers are using? Video card ,screen size, ram and motherboard. oops cpu sizeThanks for any info! :)Mike

My suggestion is, Samsung 245B. I have it and I could not be happier. For 400

My new Gateway system came with a Gateway 24" monitor and man what a difference from my old 19". Couldn't go any smaller again. Really changes FS. I'm running with the native 1920X1200 resoultion with no problems.Jim

Now I have something to work with guys. Much appreciatedMike WZA01 on vatsim .

Like you, I am debating 22" vs. 24". I really lean toward the 24", even though I realize the video (and really, cpu) horsepower I'll need to push that many pixels. So far, no one has convinced me that 24" will exact any worse of a performance penalty than 22" would.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian

Not sure what your price range is however, if your looking for some 28" Wide Screen 1900 x 1200 flight simming goodness at a great price. You might just want to check the Hanns-G for $600.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/182645.jpg28" Hanns-G 1900x1200http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...d=1188561324689It also comes with EVERY cable you could possibly need.

heh :) you know, if I bought a 28" Hanns-G, that would be a larger screen than my TV!RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian

HiIf you fly mainly from the VC and your video card supports it, you might want to consider a dual-monitor setup. Here in the UK, i purchased 2 19" LCD monitors for approx

I just bought the Samsung 245BW but have not received it yet.(Tomorrow).Do I set the resolution in FS to 1920 X 1200?I use only VC.Or is there a way to set it on video card. Not too computer savvy.I have Nvidea 8800 GT 512 MB. with a new system.Core 2 Quad 6600 2.4.Thanks,Ron

I bought a 24" LCD from Dell a while ago and because I spent $1200 at that time, I feel I am stuck with it.If I had a chance now, I would actually do 3 X 19"LCD and the put it all together with the Matrox Triple Head 2GO (Digital edition). It may be slightly more expensive.. But I think, this setup would beat any 27" LCD.Mannyhttp://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/cadgis/p...igital/home.phphttp://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kds?$=main/review/th2go.htm

I also have the monitor Sargeski suggested. It's flat out awesome in FSX, and I love it in COD4. I feel it's the best band for buck monitor available.I bought mine on sale at BB for 529.00 around xmas time. Newegg has it listed for $499.00, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16824254026The BB version has a height adjustable stand, but I read somewhere the egg version doesn't. Both have HDMI and HDCP.Myself, I couldn't deal with the bezels on a multimon setup. They'd drive me crazy.EDIT: This is my opinion, fsx scales well with higher resolutions and you might not loose a great deal of frames at all depending on what vid card you have and what settings you run. Try running a real low res and note the observed fps. Then crank up the res to your current max and note the difference. It's well known that FSX is cpu and memory bandwidth limited.I have an 8800gtx and I don't notice any huge corelation in fps loss to monitor resolution. I suspect 8800gt users will find the same. Heck, my gtx can run 16xAF and 16xS AA @ 1900x1200. Even gt's seem to handle 16xAf/8xSAA very well.I don't use bloom because it requires your system two render each frame twice, and I lock frames at 20fps so those are major factors influencing my observations. At times I also trade 2x water for more ai air traffic.

OK,you guys have me thinking.I have the 24" Samsung from Best Buy and it is great. For 100.00 more at Best Buy I can get the 28" Hannas.I can return the Samsung and try the Hannas(SP?).It has the same resolutiom but contrast ratio is only 800/1.so will the picture be as clear as with the Samsung 24"?It just seems the 28" monitor is going to be REALLY BIG but I thought the 24" would be really big compared to my 19" which it is and I really like it.So,when is too big,TOO BIG?Thanks for any thoughts,Ron

Im not sure what to say because I've never seen the samsung, but the brightness and contrast on the hannsg were way too high out of the box. I'm running 30 brightness and 51 contrast in the monitors osd settings.I guess you could try it, then return it if not satisfied with the quality. It doesn't seem too big to me. I have it sitting at arms length on my desk when sitting up straight. It seems logical that if going from 19 to 24 was an improvement, why not go for the extra 4 inches. I think I'd even buy a 30 if they werent so darn expensive and didn't require ultra high res.

Thank you,I think I will do that.I have to drive 60 miles thru bad traffic but I am going to try the 28" I agree with your opion.Ron
