Black/disappearing textures? Some bizarre news ...

Hi Lynch,Since I'm unable to find a Realtek driver which supports a 16bit 8kHz sample rate and Realtek won't answer my emails, could you tell me where to enable the DTS in Vista? Thanks in advance!Kind regards,Nico
NicoI've been looking into this too. The mixed jargon which prevails in the sound card cul-de-sac of the computer industry makes it very difficult to tell, so I could well be wrong, but I *THINK* that DTS is a proprietary version of S/PDIF. This - if I have understood correctly - is the audio equivalent of a DVI-D signal in videos: it bypasses the digital-audio converter in the on-board sound card and sends a pure digital signal to external equipment. My card has two S/PDIF outputs: an RCA jack and an optical jack. I've just ordered an optical cable and a converter which, I hope, will turn the digital (optical) output into an analogue (RCA) signal for my speakers. This COULD make sense: if the sound card manufacturers use shoddy digital-analogue converters then perhaps they can only keep up with the pace in FSX at low bit quality/frequency. It would also explain why not everyone with the same kit gets this problem: there may be variations in the quality of individual converter chips. If this is the problem, then bypassing the internal converter just might be a workaround.Which is a long way of saying that you might not have DTS on your system, but try looking into S/PDIF.Tim

Hi nicoI have the GA-P35-DS4 motherboard so the Dts is part of the realtek soundcard, I can change my sound settings within the Realtek audio manager, mine is in my task manager.I too use vista.. with all the latest drivers including vista sp2.Good luck

Hello,Thanks a lot for the info, but seems my onboard Realtek chipset (ALC888 on a Foxconn G33M mobo) doesn't support DTS. (or I can't find it anyway)Next option I was considering is buying a Soundblaster Audigy SE card. It's sold at 35

Hi,Ok, mixed feelings here...I bought the SB Audigy card, but I'm still unable to select the lower sample rate. Lowest I can go is 16 bit 41000 Hz. So no success in that department. However, I am able to run Creative Alchemy now. So far, I haven't been able to reproduce the black screen, so that's good. I only tried a short KIND-KORD run so far, but I did always have a black screen on that one, and tonight not anymore. Now for the downside. I use FS2Crew and PFE. I encounter problems with both of them. PFE sometimes leaves numbers out of phrases, so instead of cleared for takeoff 23R it sometimes states cleared for takeoff R. As for FS2Crew, I can only get to the departure briefing, after that no sound anymore. :( Anyone experienced the same? And what sound settings do you use now?Well, back to trial and error on resolving these new issues...Kind regards and thanks again for the help,Nico :(

NicoSounds like the problem I found: Alchemy won't play all the voices for me in the MD-11, so I've gone back to the 8000 Hz fix.Others: an update, for what it's worth, about using the S/PDIF connection. I spent a little money on an optical cable and external digital/analogue converter to bypass the onboard version. Momentarily interesting to see the light in the fibre optic cable - but absolutely no improvement for the disappearing textures problem AND the digital settings don't give any option to set the quality down to 8000 Hz. So back to the "Speakers" instead of the "SPDIF" option in the Sound applet, @ 8000 Hz.Tim

Hello , I have also same kind of problem (missing textures , black screen etc. after switch to windoved mode and back ) with FSX PMDG MD 11 + latest patch , what interesting is , that Im using semiprofessional ESI Juli sound card , My rig - Intel Core I 7 - 920 , Asus Rampage Extreme II , DDR3 Corsair 6Gb , Nvidia 280 GTX , soundcard Esi Juli , Win Vista 64 bit + SP 2 and latest actualisation . So no chance reduce resolution of sound quality and therefore problem still occur .

Hello all,My system i use is getting old but the pmdg 747 always worked flawless.FS9 with XP. Pentium 4 3GHZ, 2Gig RAM, ATI9800pro, 2HDD (see below)Now i new with the md11 and i noticed also the los of textures in the scenery.First one building becomes grey, then more and more until everything gets grey even the virtual cockpit becomes grey and white.(the sound settings are changed to basic with DXDIAG)I can remove the grey textures simply by setting fs9 to another resolution and the scenery is back normal. Then i resumed the flight and after take-off i wanted to change the settings in FSUIPC. When i pushed ok to go back to fs i got a black screen and fs crashed to desktop. At the moment of the crash the CPU was 65% used and the memory was also below it limits. This looks like where heading to more bad flights without knowing the cause. That's what happend on my system.Gino------------------System Information------------------ Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3 Language: Dutch (Regional Setting: Dutch)System Manufacturer: AOPEN_ System Model: AWRDACPI BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG Processor: Intel

Have you tried lowering some of your scenery sliders. This looks like you are running out of video Ram.

Anyone who has had sound issues using alchemy, have you tried adjusting the buffers in the alchemy settings for FSX? Mine are at default (4 buffers/25 ms? duration/128 maximum voice count). I haven't seen a problem yet, but for those that do, maybe it is worth a shot, especially if you cannot decrease sound quality.

Gentlmen, I am about ready to pack it in..... A month ago I decided once and for all to take the plunge and upgrade to FS-X. I built a brand new machine:Core i7-920Asus PT6V2 mobo6GB DDR3 RAM2 150GB Velociraptor HD'sEVGA 9800 GTXVista Home Ultimate 64 bitI installed the latest (185.85) nVidia drivers and then went ahead and installed FS-X and the Acceleration Pack. I was flying the default aircraft for two weeks with no problems and great frame rates. Then I installed the PMDG 747-X.... and my troubles started.I've been experiencing pretty much every problem listed in the last 6 pages of messages..... loss of textures, missing panels, black screens, distorted screens, problems with "ALT" anything.... For example, I was going through a couple of tutorials I downloaded, everything was fine until I hit the "ALT" key to bring up the FS menu, and all hell broke loose. Happened again 3-4 times. No ability to use the "replay" feature either.Kyle pointed me to this message thread. Since I am using the onboard Soundmax chip, I will attempt to use Jay's solution of lowering the audio quality and report back... I really hate to think that I wasted $80 on this software. The FS-X scenery is awesome but I only ever used FS2004 with PMDG products.Phil

I am very curious to find out if anyone figures out a way to lower the settings when it appears you cannot...like others here I can only lower my settings to "CD quality" sometimes that works sometimes it doesnt. I am very interested in finding a solution...I know there must be a genius among us...Guthrie Zuehlke
