SAITEK PRO FLIGHT YOKE SYSTEM what I believe

Featured Replies

I now have the CH Flight sim yoke and rudder pedals. I'm thinking about the Saitek yoke since I believe this after researching it and using the CH yoke. The Saitek yoke system would give me a much more realistic flight experience since1) It's a better yoke than the CH and controlling the plane would feel more real2) The throttle quadrant would increase the lrealism to a new level since it's separate and have a wider range of movement and would be placed more realisticFor people who have used both and or real world pilots. Do you think I'm correct in what I believe? Or is it maybe not worth spending money on it if you already got a CH yoke?

JFRI,I was wondering the same thing!Did you get the Saitek yoke and throttle? If so, what do you say about it?

I just purchased the system to be used on my iMac running X_Plane 9.xxWhen it arrives and I get it all set up I'll report back with a bit of a mini review.

I have the Saitek Yoke with throttle quadrant, + extra throttle quadrant, and also the rudder pedals as well, and believe me, it makes flying as real as it can get, :( especially with a strong cross wind, flying a 747 on approach and landing,

Thanks for the information.I read the yoke has a built in USB hub .. and a power adapter can be purchased separately? Is the hub for the Satek throttles you use?

it has a round pin for the throttle quadrant which is supplied with your yoke, I bought mine as a package, the other throttle quadrant has a usb connection, and also the rudder pedals also have a usb connection, which both of these are plugged into the yoke hub, and it works brilliantly, by the way I have my yoke plugged into a usb port on my pc, so don't require a power adapter

the Saitek yoke has 3 standard USB ports and the separate (I guess DIN) port for the throttle unit. I have the second quad unit plugged into one of the yoke ports. I have tried plugging in other stuff into the yoke and had some problems so if you want to use all 3 of the USB ports it might be better to power the yoke. It looks like it takes a standard 5V supply drawing 1.5A with the center pin +, so you could probably use a generic AC-DC converter with those specs.scott s..

Well, my Saitek Yoke system has died after just 3 months of simming and not hard simming at that... now to start the exchange process with Saitek I guess, hope it goes smoothly.Anyone have any experiences with Saitek and exchanging products directly? :(

I am still thinking about getting one.Did you like it and the software that it used .. like for calibration? How did it die?How is their tech support? How long will it take to get another one?Are you sure it is a yoke problem?

I liked it very much, one of the best yoke throttle combos going for the price. It didn't come with software, infact it don't even come with a manual, if you need either you get them from Saiteks website... I guess. Its USB and I run a Mac and X-Plane so it was really just plug and go, no problems whatsoever.Setup was really easy using the setup/calibration option in the sim.It just up and died, with very little warning. Was working fine, shut system down. Next day started system, yoke display and throttle LED both came on.Started sim, but all was unresponsive, so I tried to recalibrate it but still nothing. So I unplugged the yoke/throttle, restarted my computer and nothing... whole thing was dead, no lights nada.Tried several other USB ports and even confirmed they were working with other devices which they were.So I will be calling Saitek on Monday and starting the return/exchange process.Hopefully it will be fast and painless.Looking online I have found here this unit suffered from phantom button presses when it was first released, then from flickering displays as well as calibration drift over long flights. Also found a few folks who had total unit failure like I did.

Which model did you get?Price?Let us know how their customer service is.Any cost to you to get it swapped out .. like shipping charges to return it etc.Hopefully it is a full one year (at least) warranty and you will not have pay anything. And, how long (weeks/days) to get a new or ... as they say "Refurbished" one .. new would be better. My old CH Products Flight Sim Yoke (USB) is 9 years old .. no problems yet.It has out lived 3 of my computer systems!

Update.I received an email from the xplane.org store (where I purchased it from), I had requested info from them about returning it to Saitek but to my surprise they responded by asking me to return it to them for exchange.Even though their website says they only do return/exchanges for 30 days after purchase. So this was a very welcomed and pleasant surprise and a big PLUS for the xplane.org store! The model was...http://store01.prostores.com/servlet/x-pla...e/Detail?no=131

If you are considering Saitek, I offer my opinion. I am a real world pilot (retired) with about 12,000 hours experience mostly in light to medium twins and singles. I have used the CH Products Yoke, Throttle Quadrant, and Rudder Pedals for years. Recently I switched to the Saitek Pro Flight products. I have the Saitek Yoke, Extra Throttle Quadrant, Rudder Pedals and Switch Panel. IMO the Saitek Pro products are more realistic in terms of size and feel with the exception of the detent that is present in the yoke (both pitch and roll). However, with time the detent is becoming less of a problem for me. Now here's the catch with Saitek: They have a lot of problems. In my case (and many others) the X-axis of the yoke was constantly losing its center point and calibration and the clock display was flickering. I tried downloading the latest drivers to no avail. I contacted Saitek support and they responded in a timely manner. Their solution was to delete some entries from the registery. But that only fixed the problem once, then it came back. In addition, when deleting the registery entries, all the control assignments had to be re-assigned within FSX. When I advised Saitek support that the solution offered didn't fix the problem they stopped responding. However, the Saitek User Forum came to my rescue. A chap named Steve on that forum suggested the problem could be dealt with by simply unpluging the yoke and pluging it back in prior to starting FSX. That works. And if the yoke gets out of calibration during flight, one can follow the same procedure to correct it. As far as the flickering clock display is concerned I covered it with black electrical tape. I never flew anything with a clock embedded in the yoke anyway. So, it seems more real without it to me. Hope this helps.
