June 21, 200916 yr Looks very nice but how do you guys navigate over these kinds of sceneries? Do you buy VFR charts? Or do you use some program to dispay them on-screen? Or do you just "cheat" using the GPS? Not a lot of VORs in this area...Coincidentally, I was speaking with a bush pilot who was based out the Yukon. He was very, very familiar with the area and used VFR navigation. He could even take celestial readings, but I think you need an almanac for that. He despised the GPS, and claimed that it barely worked at all in the back country. A very interesting and well-spoken young gentleman.Summit Air is a real-world airline that stages in that region. For a flavour of bush pilot life, you can check out their website. Be sure to look at their picture gallery!http://www.summitair.net/Home/tabid/36/Default.aspxJeff ShylukSenior Staff ReviewerAVSIM

Garmin or browser versions are available. I prefer the browser -- less cluttered and resizeable.John

Unfortunately you can't view them while flying unless you fly in windowed mode (which ruins the realism). A second monitor would have been useful :( I do have my 8.9" netbook however, which I guess I can use to view them. The screen is a bit small for this but it might work.I loved the Megascenery products because they came with all the charts you needed. I would have paid extra for a boxed version of this scenery with charts and other extras included. If you live in Europe, it's not easy to get hold of the sectionals (I ordered a bunch from overseas several years ago, but not the Juneau ones). -
June 22, 200916 yr Looks great! Anybody know if they have a dedicated forum for Tongas? Also, any thoughts on performance. My system (AMD 64X2 4200, Nvidia 6800gt 256 mb, 2 gig ram) runs Orbx FTX well, but I'm wondering how well it would do with Tongas. Thanks Howard

The Tongass support forum is at http://forums.fsaddon.eu/viewforum.php?f=30 . If you can run the ORBX scenery well, you should have no problems at all with Tongass. Then Alt-Enter toggle FSX to full screen to fly. When you want to check the map, just temporarily toggle back and the map display will be in full view in the windowed mode. Be sure FSX is set to not "pause on task switch" if you want the flight to continue while viewing the map.John
