July 4, 200916 yr I've just tried the new nVidia drivers 186.18 - it includes support for USB controlled 3D goggles, as well as the low-tech Red/Blue goggles that used to be distributed with magazines (TV guides, comic books etc) in the past. Check out the nVidia control panel and look for "Stereoscopy" options. The graphics are then rendered in Analyph Mode (two images overlaid). This works beautifully with FSX. You lose some sense of color, but you get a wonderful 3D feeling out of it. The effect of being in a 3D virtual cockpit is really cool. In night flying you hardly notice that color is missing. Well, not really missing, but weird looking.I case you wonder where from you should be getting 3D goggles: It appears nVidia will soon be giving some away for free. Check out their page http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d_vision_discover.html - it appears they will give out these goggles to Geforce owners soon. For ATI users, there are freeware and shareware tools that provide the same anaglyph rendering. But I think it's a nice touch that nVidia has decided to revive this feature in their drivers. It used to be a feature of older Riva 128 and Riva TNT drivers, I remember. That was 10 years ago ;)Enjoy.Christian

A cheap pair of $20 glasses and a whole new simming experience! Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
July 5, 200916 yr Amazing! A cheap pair of $20 glasses and a whole new simming experience!$20 for glasses made of paper and transparent plastic sheet? what a Rip-Off ;-)Mine came with the latest c't magazine (a German publication, the best IT and computer related magazine on the German market IMHO). So essentially it was a freebie. A lead article in this magazine also pointed me to these drivers. So credits for this discovery go to c't magazine.Goeoff, try using the key-combination Ctrl-F3 and Ctrl-F4 to adjust the "depth" of the 3D effect. I see from your screen shot that things still look pretty flat. I usually with about 50% depth setting.Christian

I bought nice high quality glasses for about $20 a few years ago but stopped using cause of fps hits-but these drivers not only work great but seem to perform great. July 5, 200916 yr How much is the impact of this effect on frame rates?I see very little hit which is surprising but I also have the sim set up for 40-60 fps. The hit might be much more noticed at lower fps. Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!

July 5, 200916 yr I see very little hit which is surprising but I also have the sim set up for 40-60 fps. The hit might be much more noticed at lower fps.I have experimented with it quite a bit more and I have to say it is astounding. I wrote about flying in 3d a year ago-but one had to buy the drivers and the fps hit was pretty hefty. These new nvidia drivers give stunning results! I was never that excited about 3d knobs in the cockpit but this changes my opinion 180.For the cost of a cheap pair of glasses I'd run for some and get the new drivers! July 5, 200916 yr Does that mean separate stereo drivers are not needed and does this work in XP too?I guess not because I don't see any stereo options in the drivers I've just downloaded and the only XP drivers I can find on the Nvidia site are ages old.Edit: I also see that Nvidia 3d Vision only supports Vista and Windows 7. Hmmmph!
July 5, 200916 yr I installed the new drivers but it states that my graphics card "does not support 3D". I have 2 x 7950GX2 (quad SLI not used) and have been using them for 3D with Tri-Def 3D drivers ever since Geoffa wrote about them months and months ago. I use Vista 32 Home Prem.Any ideas as why this new driver wont work for me?

July 5, 200916 yr My brain hurts from this pic. Did you change the convergence in this one? (Ctrl-F5, Ctrl-F6) ;-)It appears the left and right frames for the canyon and for the cockpit are both separated by quite a distance. Normally I would expect only the cockpit (near objects) to be separated. So I had to squint a little before my brain was able to adjust to it.The "best" 3D settings are very much a personal preference, I suppose.
July 5, 200916 yr Forgive my ignorance, but would the 3D glasses that they give you at the movies work with the new drivers too? Mike Keigley
July 6, 200916 yr Forgive my ignorance, but would the 3D glasses that they give you at the movies work with the new drivers too?I would assume so-as long as one is red and one is green..Pretty good deal and the results are amazing!
