July 9, 200916 yr Hi Guys,I was looking at my FS9 main folder and seen I've got several total of 3 Scenery CFG files They are as follows:New Scenery.CFG (Which has just updated with me adding new scenery)Old scenery.CFGScenery.CFGMy question is do I delete the Old Scenery CFG and Scenery CFG and then change the New scenery CFG to Scenery CFG? I've noticed that later two have not got in my Naples scenery just added but the New Scenery CFG has that's what made me think about deleting the other two?? Besides those I've got other Scenery CFG Files which say (Scenery_CFG_Before_Madrid_2008_was_installed) and other Scenery CFG relating to AES can all of these be deleted? Or do they need to be kept?I was going to run the FSTscenery.exe file as seen from other posts it's a handy tool that's the reason for me asking about deleting the other Scenery CFG files first and then renaming the New Scenery file...Or what would people suggest doing? When running the FSTscenery.exe I read a post about it goes by layers and I've just looked at my New Scenery.CFG file and the layer numbers are fine until it gets to the one saying.[Area.082] Title=AES-BasepackLayer=248 But then it goes back into Layer number order again wherby the next bit says [Area.083] Title=Simmer's Sky - AFCAD2 Layer=82Would these need changing first before running the utility and would it mess up the scenery files I've got already and mess up the AES config?? Any help on this matter as always am grateful.RgdsJason Jason Thompson
July 9, 200916 yr [Area.082] Title=AES-BasepackLayer=248AES basepack entry should always be the last one.Otherwise launching AES help will automatically report it as an error.[Area.083] Title=Simmer's Sky - AFCAD2 Layer=82I'm not an ultimate FS guru but it's the first time I see AFCAD as a separate scenery entry.Strange... do I delete the Old Scenery CFG and Scenery CFG and then change the New scenery CFG to Scenery CFG?MFS always reads the scenery.cfg file. If you ask me, I always manually delete all other scenery configs. Not that I'm recommending it to you, but want to say it makes no harm.Best regards
July 9, 200916 yr The last one? it should be the first, I thought? Or are there two packages in the scenery list, and I'm confused with the other entry? because I'm sure something from the AES has to be on the top. July 9, 200916 yr Author AES basepack entry should always be the last one.Otherwise launching AES help will automatically report it as an error.Rafal do you mean is AES top in the main scenery library in FS9?? Or do you mean in the main Scenery.CFG File?? I'm not an ultimate FS guru but it's the first time I see AFCAD as a separate scenery entry.Strange... I think this has something to do with installing the Overland sceneries and you have to Register the scenery and then the AFCAD Files. MFS always reads the scenery.cfg file. July 10, 200916 yr Does this mean I need to delete the other two and keep the main Scenery,CFG file.JasonThat's your call actually. I was referring to AES being in the list. The last entry in the Scenery.cfg file will be the first one in the Scenery file. Clarke Kruger - CYEG
July 10, 200916 yr Last in the scenery.cfg file places it first on the Scenery List. Not necessarily true. The order in the scenery.cfg is placed by the line - [Area.nnn] and in numerical order. [edit] and that can get out of order if you delete sceneries and add new ones [/edit]The priority order that you see in the sim is dictated by the line - Layer=nThese 2 numbers in any given [Area.nnn] do not have to be the same.To add to the confusion, the entry with Layer=1 has the lowest, not the highest priority. So if you have, as an example 100 [Area.nnn]'s then the one with Layer=100 will have the highest priority.I do not have AES, (I am a bush flyer and avoid big airports like the plague), but it appears that it wants to have the highest priority as seen in the sim Scenery Library.Steve Greenwood's excellent little utility fsscenery.exe reorders the scenery.cfg to match the [Area.nnn] to the Layer=n line, and thus cleaning things up a bit.Regarding the old and new scenery.cfg's, FS uses them as sort of a sumcheck. If it finds something in the scenery.cfg that it does not like it will refer to the oldscenery.cfg .If you add a new scenery area, then shut off the sim and delete the newscenery.cfg, I don't think you will see your new scenery in the sim Scenery Library next time you start the sim.Long story short, deleting those files will cause no harm, unless you have a problem. They are small, so no real advantage to deleting them, since I think FS will just rewrite them if it needs them.I know advanced users will jump in here and say I am incorrect, but I always set scenery priority in the sim Scenery Library, and do not hand edit the scenery.cfg. I follow this advice as it was suggested to me by Holger Sandmann who has forgotten more about scenery design than most know.cheers,Joe The best gift you can give your children is your time.

My AES sits at 295 and has the highest priority. If you have Flightsim manager it also has the utility to go through and check your scenery.cfg and reorder it. Clarke Kruger - CYEG

To avoid confusion, I always make the area and the layer the same.
