LOL Geoffa, alas our collective memories are not proof? Can you remember any more details that might give me an idea of where to look for news archive links?Robert
I seem to recall it happened in Florida-and it wasn't that long ago-4-5 years?

Alex, concerning your example those multiple views you describe go along with a real mock cockpit sitting around your physical body. You don't need multiple monitors in FS to see what the working environment of a cockpit is all about but you will have trouble when you can't see all this come together. What I mean here is looking up for things like APU and fuel tank switches, looking down to the right to tune your radios etc. Commercial Simulators don't need a VC because your basically sitting in one in real life. Like I stated before FS is for enjoyment and if 2D panels and multiple monitors work for you then great but for those that can't afford a million dollar simulator and want to get the best representation of flight a VC, TrackIR, and a fluid running sim with one monitor fits the bill... :(
Dillollo - We're not that far apart- I just put highest priority on a realistic view. The pilot's medical exam will flunk you for less than 180

I might be missing something here but are you guys actually argueing over virtually moving your head vs physically moving your head? wow XD If a guy is comfortable with his setup let him enjoy his set up and you enjoy yours viva le difference?when it comes down to it, If you are in a plane at 5000 feet and the pilot dies and you are left with control of the plane Im sure someone with even a single monitor and no track IR that has put in the same amount of hours with the same instruction could land with as much capabilities as you guys and your set ups

I am a no fear kind of person who will do pretty much any dumb scary to most people thing thrown at him, ill jump off cliffs and feel fine, I have no problem with speed height ectIf i was alone in the plane and didnt have others lives on my hand, i really dont care about my own life. would flying be closer to simming for a person like me?
There is the old saying; "They are old pilots and there are bold pilots. But there are no old bold pilots". If you have no fears at all you must seriously reconsider flying for real. Some amount of fear and anxiety is good for you when flying. Your personality would make you EXTREMELY dangerous in the air. Also please remember that if you were flying for real, even without passangers, your actions have consequences for other people and pilots. Yes other pilots. Other than endangering lives on the ground, everytime a pilot crashes there is a huge uproar to ban flying in some sort or form. Numerous airports have disappeared in urban areas because the residents have used action of few reckless pilots to portray flying as too dangerous near their homes. Numerous restrictions on flying have been put on pilots by FAA for actions of few "bold" pilots. Flying has lost its purity due to all those restrictions. I am not saying you should not take on real flying. What I am saying is that since your personality is as you indicated you need to be a lot more consious about your decions as someone like me.I repeat that in simming there is not decision making process involved. This makes it extremely different than real world flying. Your personality will cause you to make decisions on the side of "boldness" when situations are so not clear. (as they always seem to be in real flying). When was the last time you considered density altitute when flying in FS9 or FSX? What did you decide when the density altitude at take off was right at the inside envelope of your aircraft? Did you consider the age of the airplane? Did you consider that the pressure reading might be slightly old? What if the tires are not pressured enough and the take off run is longer? Would you pass the obsticles at the edge of the runway? Do you feel vertigo in FS9 when visiblities are marginal? Is that nagging stuffiness you feel due to cold you had going to effect your flying due to decrease in pressure? Should I go around or go forward when visibilities are getting less? Would I have enough fuel to turn back? Is that nagging sound in engine good cause to stop short of my destination? Your personaility will put you at disadvantage when dealing with all the choices real flying puts in front of you. It is said that perhaps the difference between a good pilot and bad pilot is that the good pilot has a good dose of skeptism. If you ever decide to fly for real i urge you to read a must read book called "flying out of danger". Good luck and hope you have your eyes scanning the skys when flying near me. ;)

is that another word for people like me are the first to die in flying?... uh oh

I edited my post. Please re read it. I am not saying you are going to be first to die. I am saying you need to be more aware of your limitations in decision making than someone who is naturally more cautious like me. It is extremely healthy that at least you recognise your personality. Use this awareness to make good decisions. Evan by the way, it may not be your personality alone. YOu maybe very young and when you are a young adult you feel invunlerable.P.S. your use of "uh oh" was indeed a very healthy approach to flying after all. ;)

ps the uh oh was jokinglyim planning on trying flying when i have the money for it mabey I should wait till im no longer a young adult that feels invulnerable as you saidThe only time i get real fear is when im endangering someone else, or if i see a snake (which i doubt will ever come up in my future flying career as much as some movies would like to suggest :() Over an urban environment id be much more careful but over unpopulated areas I cant see myself worrying at allOne thing ive been doing is whenever I get a gut feeling i simply do the opposite mabey i should carry this over to flying ;)

"The only time i get real fear is when im endangering someone else, or if i see a snake (which i doubt will ever come up in my future flying career as much as some movies would like to suggest :()"In flying magazine a couple months ago there was a story of a guy who took off in his B55 Baron and a 4 foot copperhead snake crawled out of the glare shield area and proceeded to wrap itself around him and his front seat passenger....he also didn't like snakes (either do I). He was able to land it and get the snake removed.

that plane would be going down fast if it was me because I would sooner jump out the window then try to land the thing :S
