July 16, 200916 yr Commercial Member Yeah, prebuilt gaming PCs are a massive ripoff - often the componets aren't even that great either. Building one yourself with all high quality parts via newegg is definitely the way to go, I've been doing it since I was about 15. July 16, 200916 yr I put in a GTX 265, 4 more gig of memory, and a 650W PSU for ~$400 from newegg. I'm looking at an upgrade to Vista 64 and a new processor to complete the makeover and it won't be too much more than that and I've in essence bought a completely new rig for very little cost, respectively. Homebuilt's the only way to go. And there are so many posts and forums on how to do the hardware and software work that it is completely feasible to do it yourself! July 17, 200916 yr Yeah, that's probably true...I know the project director of Windows 7 and he says it's great. But they said the same for Vista...so we'll wait and see! July 17, 200916 yr Will this flight computer make use of the nav data updated monthly from Navigraph? Matthew Bellette
July 17, 200916 yr Yes, it uses the same navdata files as the rest of the fleet. There are many procedures with different constraints for turbjet and turboprop, I haven't figured out yet how I am going to present that yet in my collection. Dan Downs KCRP
August 4, 200916 yr I remember someone looking for J41 manuals and mentioned the Smartcockpit website.Thought I'd share a link to the GLS-X / GLS-XLS operator manuals if it hasn't been posted before.https://www.bendixking.com/PilotGuidesThen in the Search box next to "System Name" type GLS-XLS or GLS-X [enter] it will link you to the manuals from Honeywell's website.Somewhere I have the manual for the RTUs (They appear to the be same RTUs installed in the Embraer 135/140/145 in the Primus 1000 suite), but I don't remember where I downloaded it from (It was a Honeywell site as well.)Happy Reading/Studying/Hobbying/etc.Steve W.
August 5, 200916 yr Author Commercial Member 10 LINE MONO CDU WITH VNAV AND APPROACHIs that the model (GLS-X)?Looking at the mode control buttons of the unit in the PMDG J41 it appears they are not modelling the version with moving map?Best regards,Robin.
August 5, 200916 yr Robin,They're modeling the one with the moving map on the EHSI where you can see it better. August 6, 200916 yr Author Commercial Member OK - it's just that the GLS-XLS has a moving map on the GLS itself.http://www.honeywell.com/sites/aero/Flight...A8D749991A0.htmIf you compare the function mode buttons at the top with that of the GLS-X you will see they are different, and that the PMDG version more closely resembles the GLS-X.Best regards,Robin.
August 6, 200916 yr Robin,I'm going to apologize now for giving you a rather smug answer. At the moment, the FMS doesn't have a moving map feature, but there is a map function on the EHSI. August 6, 200916 yr Robin,It looks like you're looking at the wrong part number. There are apparently several flavors of the GNS-Xls. Here's a link to the one used in the J-41:https://www.bendixking.com/servlet/com.hone...845-0000_10.pdfMost of the differences are subtle, like different formats for the AFIS pages. On this model, as Kurt mentioned, the moving map is displayed on the EHSI instead.Nick
August 7, 200916 yr Author Commercial Member Hi,Ahh! OK! I thought the -XLS was specifically moving map on the GLS *as well* as having an ability to output to EHSI, and given the different mode buttons the J41 had the -X unit because the map was displayed on the EHSI.Thanks for the link! I shall now download the appropriate manuals and start reading! :D@Kurt: Why is that a smug answer? (or is the meaning lost in text again?). Apologies if I missed something!Best regards,Robin.
August 7, 200916 yr Robin,It seemed smug to me on rereading it, but I'm glad you didn't see it that way! August 10, 200916 yr Author Commercial Member haha - no probs! :)If you compared the -X and the -XLS mode buttons (real unit) then compare to the PMDG J41 you'll see what I mean.Best regards,Robin.
