Do you possibly have a link?

More rubbish I'm afraid. If you have Vista 64 and a minimum of 4Gb of RAM you don't need to do anything like this, just be smart and dont install every piece of crap you come across on the net. Also stay away from these sites that tell you to sut down a million and one services to boost your performance, its rubbish and in a lot of cases it will make performance WORSE. If you go for Windows 7 then a lot of those services have already been optimised anyway.

Cheers, Andy.

Ok so before I install FSX on my vista64, where should I install it to? If i have Vista SP2, is it ok to install it to program files (x86)? Or do I need to put it somewhere else?I only have one hard drive so I can't give FSX it's own drive.
C:\FSX...in your situation.

Gamebooster linkhttp://209.85.229.132/search?q=cache:-Aq0g...=clnk&gl=ukI see what the guy is saying about all this gizmos we use for FSX1 - There was one to replace fsx bloom effect that was supposed to be more framerate friendly, used on my system it looked like i just turned up monitor brightness and contrast too high, no where near the bloom effect it promised, but some folks liked it . For me it was a full FSX reinstall2 - There is also FPS limiter which i tried for while, but it was too hard for me to spot any benefits it adds to FSX, to justify the trouble of dealing with yet another FSX gizmo, so i removed it too3 - GameBooster- I dont know if the anti gizmo guy has used GameBooster or not, but i have, and it makes pc faster cuase many vista tasks are shut down by it, so you can ignore that part of nicks guide that talks aboout windows services you could disable. This will shut them down before FSX, and bring em back when you done.Gamebooster Works for me, and it means i dont mess around with windows vista services i know nothing about. But still i dont need half or more of those services when gaming. GameBooster knows what services these are and it shuts them down.It also allows you to add any other service or windows task to list of services it shuts down each time, only in new version 1.1But if you not carefull with all this addons as has been said, youll be forever on the ground tweaking instead of in the sky flying. GameBooster's effect is not a gimick, so its got its place on my PC now. And its free(Dont Ask ME WHy).

UAC - I have installed FSX with Vista32 on a P4 3.2Ghz ATI X1950PRO and a QX6800 EXTREME 8800GTX. Did not have any problems with UAC on. I have FSX with Vista64 on a I7 920 ATI 4890. Do not have any problems with UAC on. My advice to the person asking for help was to leave UAC on and he would not have a problem. Trying to get Microsoft software to do something it was not designed to do can cause unnintended problems, especially for someone with limited knowledge of computers. This advice does not apply to more experienced users.Program Files - I install FSX on it's own Velocity Raptor, per NickN. On my dual boot systems I also installed Vista32 and FSX on a seperate drive. I installed FSX to D:\Games, not Program Files.FPS Limiter - If you have a 8800 video card, any driver later than 169.25 will cause spiking on external pan with unlimited fps. FPS Limiter will allow you use the latest driver, and newer cards, without the spiking with unlimited fps locked at 30. My ATI 4890 had the same problem and FPS Limiter fixed it.TIPS - I would not use any config changes until you understand what they do and the possible problems they may cause. I think the cloud flashing fix is a "must have" for the eye appeal.Have FunDave

I use Gamebooster, whether or not it makes FSX faster is a moot point but it doesn't do any harm and you have an option to leave any service untouched. I fell for a trap when I tried to print a flight plan only to find that Gamebooster, by default, turns "print services" off. It was very simple to uncheck print services so Gambooster didn't turn them off.One can always download it and give it a try as it is a small download (821KB).

Ok, so here's a condensed list of what I've got so far, feel free to comment on anything I'vegot wrong or you don't agree with and maybe when we get through we can have somethingworthwhile and helpful. :( Primary DO'S:1) Ensure you have the latest version of Vista with all Service Packs and updates installed.2) Ensure you have all the latest drivers for your particular hardware installed.3) Defrag the drive where FSX will reside.4) Disable or modify UAC before FSX install. (Norton has a utility that modifies UAC behaviour if you don't want to disable it)5) Install FSX in a folder other than the default "Program Files(x86)" or "Program Files" ie: X:\Microsoft Games or X:\FSX (Where X is your drive letter).6) Right-Click FSX icon and choose "run as Administrator" (load a flight & exit), install SP1 (load a flight and exit), install SP2 or Acceleration.7) Install Add-ons ensuring functionallity and defragging between each Add-on. Performance (Optional) DO'S:1) Use NickN's guide (links on these forums and simforum) for setting up your system including nHancer (optional) and how to defrag optimally.2) Keep non-FSX software to a minimum.3) Turn off Vista "aero" effects and disable the "Sidebar" - less resources used by the cpu.4) Get gAME BOOSTER, this will help you shut down all those vista tasks that you dont need while playing a game. Primary DON'TS:1) Don't install FSX in the default "Program Files(x86)" or "Program Files" (see #5 DO above).2 Don't manually modify or delete anything from the "WinSXS" folder.

Good information except after installing Win 7, I would highly recommend it over Vista. Even if it is just an RC. Directx 10 preview is marvelous with it.Cheersjja

Thanks, looks like that Win 7 coupon that's supposed to be included with my notebook will come in handy :( Steve
