787 Dreamliner or Not!

Featured Replies

Well, it may not be the best add-on ever, I don't know because I don't own it, but you do at least have to give Abacus some leeway, since even Boeing don't actually know how the 787 is finally going to turn out, given that it is currently undergoing some redesign. So a product such as the Abacus 787 is bound to be a bit inaccurate in some respects.
I have nothing to say about Abacus as I've never dealt with them. But, what Al states above is something I never understood: Why develop an addon for FS when the final "real world" plane is still unfinished? And why would someone purchase this AND expect realism?Too each is own, as the saying goes, but to purchase a product like this and expect any type of accuracy in the airfile, the model, and the systems, is just asking for disappointment, in my opinion.

http://www.flightglobal.com/blogs/flightbl...ont-office.htmlplenty of images of both the interior and exterior to use as reference points. but that would require work, not something the designers of this particular model are evidently familiar with. at issue is a company taking advantage of the unwary flight sim user and fishing $30 from their wallet.

What you get are super enlarged 737 panels
Have you actually downloaded and installed the latest build, or are you simply guessing? This sure doesn't look much like "super enlarged 737 panels" now, does it? :( Here is the sim versionb787000002.th.jpgHere is the official training simulator version26975218884e4fb7345ab.th.jpg

i have no idea what version that is but the one i've seen looks like this:http://www.simshack.net/product_info.php?products_id=86
As a modeler and someone that doesn't fly tubeliners, I have to say the product doesn't look that bad for the market it is aimed at based on the links you provided.

<sigh>Over the years, I've noted that logic does not come into play when mentioning "Abacus" and flightsim models.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Those pictures are from the original release, not the newest model, textures, 2d normal/wide-screen panels, and completely NEW gauge system. You are basing your harsh judgment on old news, not what's current. :(

I don't quite understand this, though. Abacus had a 787 for a few months now, maybe even more. So either they released a new version, or a seperate new product, which I can hardly imagine. To me it looks like the previous one they had. Heck, go to the FSPilotShop and you'll find the Abacus 787 there with the text: "This product was added to our catalog on Saturday 02 December, 2006."! I'm not sure what is going on here, and I speak not as a reviewer but as a regular member, but might the news staff here at AVSIM put something on the news page which didn't actually happen?
ABACUS has simply replaced the original 2006 package with a completely NEW model, textures, FDE, 2d panels (both normal and wide-screen), and gauge system. They haven't updated the screenshots in their catalog yet, nor have any of the other distibutors updated their images.

and there you have it folks..No idea on the current build, no idea on just about anything, just bash bash bash with all of 14 posts under you belt.Abacus has been around a long time and I for one don't appreciate you trying to smear their name and paint them as some sort of scam operation.Have you ever considered that companies such as Abacus buy advertising space on sites such as Avsim and provide them with a revenue stream to be able to maintain sites such as these? The company has in the past and still does to this day offer some solid products. At one time their "try before you buy" warbirds and golden age classics like the Gee Bee were about the best around of their types. If you don't like their products don't buy them. If you want to do the FS community a real service why don't you go after the ones hurting the hobby the most -the payware pirates.Abacus will stand or fall on it's own merits and so far they have stood the test of time.Regarding the bashing- I've lost count of the promising developers who withdrew from the hobby from the constant criticism from the little opinionated self proclaimed design experts.

In addition, the detractors and bashers don't seem to "get it" that the product is aimed at the entry level market. If not interested give ita pass... but please stop the "piling on" :(

listen bubbles, said company puts out a press release saying hey look what we have, aforementioned dumbass developer is too lazy/stupid/incompetent to update their sales materials on said add on so potential customers see frankly horrific version of aircraft and think, #####, they chopped 737 panels into a bad model (which they did on the first version). nice work on cropping the quote by the way.dumbass developer is at fault.18 posts. i have no idea what that means or why it's relevant but i've been using flight sim for years. there is a wide world of simming out there not connected to avsim/vatsim or anything else online.pirates you say! look, folks who download stuff that were never going to buy it in the first place are not costing devs a single penny. it's wrong sure, but don't flog that old horse. they were never customers in the first place.

I'm amazed at your mis-use of the English language. WOW!Stan

This thread either gets away from the personal insults and foul language or it get's shut down. There will be no more warnings.

It's been stated several times that there was no "press release." What showed up on the front page was the contents of an email sent to existing customers letting them know there was an updated package available.Putting said email on the front page was a simple error of judgement, nothing more.As just a bit of friendly advice, you really need to check your attitude and antagonisim at the door, otherwise I predict your membership here at AVSIM will be among :( the shorter ones... :(
