JS41 - question about Direct To on long STARs

Featured Replies

This may be us (a sample of the populace of VATSIM-UK) being numpties but....When instructed to do a Direct To in the middle of long STAR but the waypoint we want would be on a second page of the available waypoints, the second page appears blank so we can't actually pick the one we need. All waypoints within the STAR up to the bottom of the first page are there but anything beyond that doesn't seem to exist. Is this "normal", or are we missing something or have we found a buggette? We're not sure which it is!TIA

I will check, pressing the Direct key shows screen DIRECT 1/2 where page 1 is the flightplan and page 2 is closest airport. I do not have a flight plan long enough quickly available to test, what is the plan you were using? Post it and I will give it a try.

Dan,Try this one: EGPF DCS N615 HON L10 DTY EGSS - using a DCS6A off 23 and arriving on a LOREL1K for either 04/22, doesn't matter. Before getting to FINMA try doing a Direct To BKY, you can't get it on the list even though it shows DIRECT 1/3 with page 3 as 'nearest airport'; Page 2 is blank and that is where BKY should be, I think.TIA

Thanks Bill. Ernie will want to take a look at this. Glad you found this.

It seems my description was slightly inaccurate - it's not the length of the STAR itself, it looks like it's the length of flightplan that dictates whether you can see waypoints right down the STAR. We tried a route tonight in a mini-JS41 event on Vatsim-UK and we could do a Direct To as far as the STAR's hold, which is fine. There were however very few waypoints on the entire route => it all fitted onto one page of the available "Direct To" waypoints. If there had been one more waypoint then we wouldn't have seen the whole Star as being available, we think!

Same thing in the PMDG-737, you can not make a direct-to if the waypoint you want to jump to is not in the present LEGS page.

That's true but in the 737 you can go to the next LEGS page and then grab it, move back to page 1 and place it at the top. If the next page is blank (which is the case here) then you can't even see the waypoint let alone use it! Hence the question.

No, you can't, at least in the PMDG-737, if the waypoint is not in page one you can't make a direct-to. Well, that is my experience.

That's not be true in the 737 - you should be able to copy it from page 2+ into the scratchpad, then go back to the top of page 1 and line select it to the top - press EXEC and it should go direct.
