No special steps required - just install the radar and load the JS41. Looks like something went wrong during your installation, have you tried an uninstall/reinstall?

It's because the RXP configuration program looks for a bitmap file for the panel to show, but PMDG panels are compiled into the gauge files instead, so there is no corresponding bitmap. You will find the RXP Wx500 works fine in the J41 despite the error...Mitchell

The PMDG J41 comes preset with the weather radar in the VC (if you own or later install RXP WX500).The RXP installer attempts to install a 2D popup on the panel. If the installer detects the RXP radar is already listed (which it is in the VC), it will fail.Even if you did get a 2D popup, you would not get the bezel (the frame and knobs) of the gauge in the 2D popup, as that has been disabled for the J41 so that the gauge can fit nicely into the VC.If you want a 2D popup, you will have to hand edit the panel.cfgs. How to do this is beyond the scope of PMDG customer support.

It's what, $30? Can I ask someone who owns the WX500 and the J41 to explain how well it works? Is it effective with REX, or even default weather? Does is affect the frame rate? Does it stand out from the rest of the instruments (since it's developed by someone else)?

I do not have REX, but I use the RXP Wx500 in the J41. The default installation has just the display area show up in the J41 Wx radar display, so it doesn't look like an add-on.For me it works great and I see no noticeable hit on frame rates (maybe a little if you open it as a pop-up). I followed the RXP recommendations in the docs that come with it for setting FSX cloud displays and such, and it works just as advertised with almost no other setup required.

I am using it with REX2 and it's a real nice adition to the J41.Reality XP is a really good developer and I think they did an outstanding job with the simulation of weather radar given the limitation in FSX. The radar will only return hits on water vapor and precip/frozen water particles that is dense enough, thus simulating what a real Weather radar would do. It will often return noise on less dense clouds and although that may or may not be dead on, it apears as noise and not as solid hit, so it's a very good compromise. Ontop of this you can adjust the gain to filter through the noise. The max range of the radar is 80 NM, so your still safe running cloud draw distance at 80 or below and you will still get a good return picture. The only negative about it and it's not so much to do with the radar as it does with FSX weather dipiction is the fact that sometimes I will get hits far out and then it will disapear or change, this happens more with ASA then it does withg REX, so if your planning on running Rex as your weather generator, then I believe you will really enjoy the product.JB

I can't use it. When I have the Wx500 installed, my computer blue-screens whenever I try to load the J41. This happens even on a clean install of both products after cleaning my registry with RegCure. I'm running Vista (32 bit) and FSX with SP2.

Vin,Do you know if there exist any plans to add this weather radar feature to the 747-400X and and MD-11X as well? :( I would love this feature when I'm flying my PMDG 747X around the world :( By the way, great job with the JS4100. It looks great. I will buy it as well, as soon I get my crashed computer up-and-running again.Raymond
